Bilahari Should Realise That China’s ‘Influence Ops’ Is Also Followed By His Masters

“Mr Kausikan said that Beijing uses a mix of persuasion, inducement and coercion techniques to create a psychological environment which poses false choices for other countries…”

- A PERFECT description of what PAP has been doing to its own citizens. Isn’t our PAP govt uses the similar tactics of offering false or no options to its citizens?

He is so stupid, and didn’t realise many big countries are using same tricks including Russia and USA too. Stating the obvious hey? If Bilahari doesnt realise this , he is not fit to be a diplomat or whatever his current job is.

Anyone could also say that the PAP “…uses a mix of persuasion, inducement and coercion techniques to create a psychological environment which poses false choices for other countries…”, & not only for the running dogs to say so despite the obvious irony. S’pore is not a democracy, neither isn’t it not a repressed state where personal freedoms are curtailed; news reporting & information resources skewed/distorted or the distorted economy stagnated into a low pay, long hours ‘eat & shit’ eco-system where many low-value jobs go unfilled in the retail & F&B.
A mate whose emigrated to Australia tells me that after living well over a decade in Australia. These were his views & comments. He finds S’pore upon a recent visit; a fake economy, the media & broadcast channels a rah-rah, pro-govt print paper/voice & goggle box incapable of eliciting critical thinking nor coming out with brilliant analyses! The locally produced drama serials crappy; full of over zealous acting & low level behaviour. The scrips were woefully bad, full of cliches & fake situations which doesn’t exist in the real world. Fact is that the local producers borrow heavily from HK, Taiwan & Korean dramas. The imported drama poorly dubbed using the same limited dubbing people with predictable voices to voice over several characters. Even the English channels resonate with the same voice overs re: the Muttons (Vernon C & the Fat Guy). Channel 8 seemed to have the same actors of 2 decades ago. Actors who had retired some time back seemed to comeback like old boxers. The media scene in S’pore is so bad/stale that it reeks of same old, same old – a reluctance to come up with fresh & new ways of attracting viewers.
Even the Channel News Asia productions were woefully bad. Economic Panel discussion that go nowhere in terms of deeply critical analyses, pinpoint & brilliant comments, etc. The panelists all sounded very scripted, very programmed to elicit a predictive conclusion. Also, when have Ministers become like a TV show celebrity or a food tasting judge eg. Josephine “no need for space for sex” Teo, or become an economic expert (Dr Put2cherries) who commented on Smart Nation. It has become so hilarious that PAP Politicians who crave the limelight instead of concentrating on governing S’pore. Something is very wrong in S’pore & with the PAP. It seems like no one is in control – everyone seemed to be doing their own thing!

Even national & STB tourist programs like the “GREAT S’PORE SALES” has become a farce. Gone to a number of Retail Malls looking for bargains – older shopping centres looked bombed out, full of shuttered shops looking for tenants, lousy tenant mix of old retail concepts that went out a long time ago in Australia. The newer malls, on the other hand, had lots of foot traffic but none seemed to be carrying any shopping bags. Retail prices were 30%-40% higher than Australia. F&B carrying sumptuous pictures of food but the meal arrived different to the menu – less ingredients & small food portions. It was a total rip-off! On top of that, the prices were exclusive of 10% service charge & 7% GST. The meal ended up being more expensive than stated on the menu. The service were equally atrocious, waiters, waitresses can’t understand proper English well. Many were non-English speakers picking up the lingua as they go along.
My friend ‘sensed’ that the S’pore Economy is running on fumes. He went to a local bank to do some transaction – it was full of people. A lot of young smartly dressed bank staff running around chasing for customers selling investment & insurance products. In Australia, the bulk of banking are done through the internet or smart apps. Investment & insurance are done online without any human interaction or through call centres. The difference is so stark that S’pore banking is wasting human resources on doing low productivity work in a Knowledge Economy era. And Dr Put2cherries talks about being a smart nation for S’pore? Isn’t it a joke?
The greatest view of my friend was that S’pore is packaged like a First World Country but beneath the surface, it is still operates like a Third World Economy wasting loads of human resources just to get by. In 2 decades, S’pore had only assumed the semblance of adopting useless mass technology like smartphones to access social media but had not adopted the smart platforms to achieve better returns re: banking, insurance products. The use of new local graduates driving private hire vehicles is criminal for a govt who can’t generate sufficient high quality jobs in Economic Management. The reality is that S’pore operates a crony capitalist economy where the politically connected gets all the economic privileges while the rest have to fight for crumbs that fall from their table. Even their GDP growth practices have very little trickle down benefits – mostly real estate construction & Infrastructural Spending. Much of the work done by 3rd world foreign labour on a pittance.

For me, the most egregiously sickening example of the pathology goes to Channel 8, something that is completely impervious to shaming. Much of this continues because there’s a vast pool of dismally uneducated and gullible viewers. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if these ‘recycled’ actors/actresses can’t understand why people still somehow feel a kinship to them, still believe that supporting the interests of Govt. will reflect back and benefit their own humdrum lives.
You can’t appeal to these individuals humanity, as they really don’t have any.

  • Mind what you say:

This guy is not good for relationship maintenance. He is a shit stirrer. Why are they allowing him to say in public the things he is saying. More like a director of a spy cloak-and-dagger movie.
What he has said and done is damaging to relationship. In not so many words he is insinuating full blast that the guy over there is not to be trusted, no good to deal with, be careful, that the guy will do you in at the first opportunity. That’s the message he has put across openly and he gets the full glare of the media. What a dampener and how more rude could you get.
A new neighbouring government has just taken over. Sure there are baggages left behind. Does that mean a quick retort or rebuttal even before they settle down. Is a tough stand, antagonistic, don’t-meddle-around with me approach really necessary?
Is this the same sort of never ending gamesmanship? Hope these are his observations in his personal obviously bird-brained capacity? Or is this “official thinking” stilled trapped in suspicions and one-upmanship mentality and “insincerity” moving about in the dark nooks and corners. When will this be tapered down?
Then why the rush visit and the congratulation in quick time!
Hypocrisy or genuine friendship and friendliness?
Where is the sensitivity and the tactful diplomacy?
The recent GE across the causeway was indeed an eye opener and and a great relief. A great relief in that it was trouble free and smooth. Things could have gone terribly wrong. The maturity of the nation was on display. Truly a remarkable achievement! We should feel happy for them and wish them well.
This is the opportunity and time for serious efforts for cooperation and moving forward together. Settle differences amicably without injuring feelings. Leaders are elected to improve and make lives better for the people. The masses should not be used as pawns for the personal self-serving agendas of those still drunk with the trappings of power.
There are lots of room for improvements and betterment in so many fields and areas. Don’t complicate matters by saying things that will not be of any help. It is always good to take a hard look at ourselves and be careful with what we say.
The way forward is sincerity and cooperation contributing to the creation and building up of benefits for both peoples. We will always be neighbours. It is important to have good lasting relationship with neighbours. And only kindly thoughts of friendship will build up and ensure a genuine relationship.

  • The way forward:

We are close neighbours. If they sniff we catch the cold. If things go wrong over there we will be badly affected. Malaysia and Indonesia are bigger in size hence they have “bigger” problems. It calls for understanding. Sometimes it is wise “to be seen and not heard”. It is crucial to build trust between neighbours and be genuinely concerned for each other and help each other.

    @ Haigen-diaz:
Obviously, Channel 8 is the PAP’s political ideology media channel that provides “a mix of persuasion, inducement and coercion techniques to create a psychological environment” which they can thus control & manipulate politically. Demographically & theoretically, it reaches out to at least 60% of the general population (of 70% Chinese ethnicity). Mediacorp’s pool of actors/actresses/TV commentators are those who have everything to lose unless they toe the govt’s ideology platform, fall backwards to act out their propaganda-rich drama scripts – in return they are richly rewarded for it with TV commercial endorsements, Brand ambassadorship, etc. *Sniff* Somewhat like the obvious crony capitalist economy we have in S’pore. Same players, same pool of faces, limited opportunities, no fresh viewpoint, no breakthrough, etc.
And that is why the whole nation is going stale like a piece of week-old bread. The minority (a small percentage) are those whose mentality can scale the doldrums & suffocating eco-system of the official state organs. When they opened up their senses to the global network, one can see the vibrancy, richness & freshness of people ‘who dare’ to shift goal-posts, go against the grain & defy convention. But in S’pore, it elicits fear from within because of the silly idea that it would lead to a loss of absolute political power. They reap what they sow!

SEX, SPAS, SLEAZE: WHAT ORCHARD ROAD OF SINGAPORE HIDES IN PLAIN SIGHT

First, I thought that a short-term tanking of our economy might be worth it to change hearts and minds of the 69.99%. But something strange is going on in our economy just beneath the glowing media reports. Our current crop of rulers were creating their own Potemkin reality and one can see the results is false but our society keeps a stiff upper lip, nonetheless. As I get into it, again, I see parallels with the intertwined political history of Najib’s UMNO, particularly as a prelude to the current direction of the post PAP era. It has surrounded itself with such a tainted and self-serving group of cronies and sycophants that any chance of sensible governance, financial policy and economic reform is moot. We are indeed at an inflection point in recognizing that trade wars, regime changes, fossil energy cost, housing crisis, and climate changes means that the world is becoming a powder keg just waiting for an explosion. All we can do is cringe and wait for the blast. I think US hegemony in global trade will be broken beyond repair as the rest of the world adjusts to its’ madness. There will be a period of dislocation as these adjustments are being made, but made they most certainly will be. And why would the rest of the world ever trust the US again? It is not hard to imagine, though terrifying, we are being pushed in that same direction. Any economic system can be successful when the right political system is in place. No economic system can be successful when the political system is dysfunctional like ours is now. Lies + No apologies = Winning. This is PAP’s formula for success.

Nothing so surprising! My very early morning breakfast at a wet market hawker centre in a central location comes with a no-cost fashion show catwalk. I get to see a bevy of Eastern European call-girls wearing revealing clothes at the end of their working shift having their supper before going back to their apartments nearby to sleep. It’s been ongoing for a few years. Timing coincided with the casinos operating in S’pore. I’ve been to Macau many year back where sex & gambling go together. It can’t be any different in S’pore. PAP’s hypocrisy & double-standards had become hilarious!
I suspect they’re operating either as a high end call-girl racket serving the casino guests or provide exclusive & expensive entertainment for big spending tourists at the high end hotels. Not your average China, Vietnam or Thai hookers where they would be blocked by the high end hotel security. There must be a tie-up (prostitution racket) amongst the Russian Mafia, local gangsters (pimps), hotel security (kickback) & dare I say, immigration officers. If not, how did those Caucasian prostitutes evade border security & slip in so easily? And we have an Interpol office at Tanglin.
The sex spas are nothing new. It just an expansion of the sex trade beyond the defined traditional red-light areas eg, Geylang, Jalan Besar & Kwong Saik Street in Chinatown. The spas are usually operated by China women backed by the local triads. Again, there is a racket going on amongst the various inferious forces where no one cares to intervene.
Go to any local discos or night club where locals predominate – 100% that the majority are Triad members spending their time & money there. The YouTube has loads of Triads members chanting their gang slogans at night clubs & discos in S’pore.
In the HDB heartlands, there have been a remarkable increase in the pawnbroking trade & in short-term lending businesses sprouting everywhere. Also, illegal moneylending, bookrunning of gambling syndicates for 4-D, soccer bets & sales of smuggled contraband like non-duty paid cigarettes have become difficult to eradicate or to control. THE PACE AND DEPTH OF NATIONAL DEGRADATION IS STAGGERING!

Exactly like what my mate whose migrated to Australia a decade ago tells me in my earlier narrative – that S’pore is a Potemkin reality very surreal from the actual one he now lives in. Indeed we’re at an inflection point where the past & the present conditions may not leverage & could never interconnect into the future due to the current issues you’ve rightly pointed out. The major problem as you correctly enunciated is the inertia of the current PAP regime because they have too much to lose if they make changes & initiate reforms. The PAP protects themselves first; then their cronies and sychopants – vested minorities at the expense of the clueless majorities. The very reason for the income disparity & wealth level inequities in S’pore. Whatever statements they may make about resolving income disparity & wealth inequities will be just motherhood statements for political purpose. As you quoted: “Lies + No apologies = Winning. This is PAP’s formula for success.” Await for the blast and salvage the remains.
