Facebook’s planned $1 billion data center in Singapore

Last week (6 Sep 2018) it was published that Facebook is spending $1 billion on its first data center in Asia, my country – Singapore:
[ LINK ]

Facebook said it chose Singapore for several reasons, including the quality of the city-state’s infrastructure and workforce, and its business friendly environment. The truth is Singapore is the only country in the world where there is no minimum wage, no independent labour union, no protest allowed.

Hence many people have contacted me about it, there is nothing that we Singaporeans can do in Singapore, because even utilizing the only venue that’s legal for protest in Singapore has caused me to be interrogated, charged, fined, imprisoned and become the only Singaporean disqualified from standing for the next  parliamentary election.Early this year, Facebook even claimed that they will hold forums as they “intend to engage with civil society”: [ LINK ]

It’s nothing but a hypocritical statement. Not only did Facebook not contact my fellow Singaporeans and I, many of us (including myself) had been banned by Facebook numerous times. There are still photos of our events, articles and postings that were taken down for no good reason until today. In fact, the Singapore government has openly declared that they used anonymous accounts to spam comments online.

The recent HEARINGS ON ‘FAKE NEWS’ is just a facade: [ LINK ]

The ruling party parliamentarians (such as Seah Kian Peng) sitting on board were perpetuators of misinformation themselves yet have no shame admitting it. This is the state of Singapore right now, where the government resorts to brutal physical force yet is unable to explain why the violence: [ LINK ]

Tomorrow (14 Sep 2018) I have been summoned to the police station at 3pm for to “assist” with the police regarding an alleged public assembly by the wives of the government grassroots.

There were at least six of them marching around the vicinity, shouting vulgarities, chanting slogans, waving papers, holding candles, threatening people and banging doors. To know if Singapore is truly a “democratic society based on justice and equality” as mentioned in our pledge.

We will be able to know if the government charged six Singaporeans in court for the #ReturnOurCPF event (an event that seeks transparency and accountability towards our pension fund) will the government do the same to their own grassroots people?

A data centre consumes humongous amount of energy aka air conditioning.
That is why Iceland is a preferred choice for data centres. Wait till the Govt
zeros in on carbon tax. It’s not the energy producers that will be taxed,
    but the energy users.

Wait and see. There’ll be more people like HHH in the couple millions naturalised singaporeans. The very foreign-born people whom the PAP has brought into sg and converted to citizens will one day contribute to the majority votes that cause the downfall of the PAP. 种什么因,结什么果

They’ll get a slap on the wrist and maybe some ‘counseling.’It’s so useful this counseling punishment. A good backup in case one of their own gets into trouble.

clown pap creates the problem. clown pap then uses money, from taxing innocent 70% sheep, to solve the problem.

example. 3m+ local born everything swee swee. clown pap says need 6.9m/10.0m. so now at 6.1m. of course with almost double number of mouths, water use rises. clown pap says too much water use today so must tax 30% more to ensure water use reduced. WTF.

same here with energy use. when these energy guzzlers use more and more energy, clown pap shall say, too much electricity use so must tax 45% more to ensure electricity use reduced. clown pap causes problem. 70% sheep pays for clown pap error. we, the innocent OPPOSITION, become collateral damage. WTF.

so true. with a pliant parleement, everything illegal can be made legal. all for S$m to clown pap members, ONLY. 70% sheep not a nickel. no flow down. 70% sheep bears all costs, when clown pap error finally breaks out. 70% sheep reaps no nickel, when clown pap pays each other S$m for their stupid schemes. truly WTF.

Pappies are always open for business – 24/7.

Come one come all! Come with lots of cash! You will be king then.

Better than locals. No need for NS or Res. Stay in condo and look down on the $G locals who are begging you for a job.

Please come! Remember there is no other place like $G where the people kiss your FT a*se just so they can write about it on a blog…..

  • Boh Kia See:

The important point to note is that those people likely to be employed at the data centre will be foreigners not locals.

What I foresee is that gradually, locals will be the ones sweeping the floors and cleaning offices for foreigners who will be running the operations. Now, citizens are driving taxis and old folks are cleaning tables. This will be the next step for a graduate citizen, which is to do menial office jobs for foreigners.

If the PAP continues that is the future for citizens. The PAP is like the mafia, they only control and bully their own kind. With external parties, it will be an attitude of kiasu, kiasee.

Singapore is changing its corporate law to make it easier for foreigners to operate here. What it means is higher GDP and this leads to higher–you know what.

Nowadays, the Ministers are not only after their wages, which is at the top of the world but aiming for the bonus as well which will double their base wage or more.

Citizens need to do something to remove the PAP from their position. The time to start is now—go and talk to every flat on your floor and then your block. It is the only way to protect Singapore from self-centred and self-interested people
