Our workers’ ignorance is the PAP government’s biggest support

“Not within my pay grade, Prof”- Zanial Sapari (Assistant Secretary-General of NTUC)

I seriously wanted to puke when I read that.

That was Zanial Sapari’s reply to Professor Tommy Koh in response to a question during a round-table on wages. The question was that if existing schemes are sufficient in helping our low income workers. More than being a labour MP, Zanial Sapari is the second most senior person at NTUC, a labour movement representing thousands of our workers, many of whom are low income workers.

Very seriously and nothing personal, I will still say to you, Zanial Sapari, Shame on You! You are highly educated, you are paid well, you are a senior union leader and you have a sacred job of promoting, protecting and defending the employment interests of our workers, especially those very vulnerable ones. Your lackadaisical reply to Professor Koh’s question totally betrayed your attitudes toward your role, mission and our workers’ expectations of you.

I will say again, Shame on You!

Right now, our Workfare Income Supplement (WIS) is plenty of style and little substance. WIS is a government scheme to supplement low income workers’ salaries but if one takes a closer look at any WIS letter sent to any recipient, about 50% of the WIS amount goes into the worker’s CPF account.

Now, let us pause for a while and ask ourselves. Our low income workers need cash far more than CPF savings to survive and feed his/her family and if he/she cannot get the full benefit from the WIS with all its intent and purpose, the relevancy of his CPF portion in the WIS meant for a time in the future is really only for show.

A low income earner may not have a lot of education but I want the PAP government to understand that he/she doesn’t deserve to be fooled. Get that clear! There are valuable lessons here. Our citizens must never, never harbour anymore delusions that only well-educated and well-paid people make strong leaders.

Zanial Sapari was an university graduate, earns well as a senior union leader but unfortunately, the plights of our low income workers do not bother him much or affect his pay grade. There is no linkage. What a shame.

Experiences have shown us again and again that when meek and weak but highly educated people are paid well and put in leadership positions not to lead but to display or for display, chances are that they will sacrifice the leadership role at best and pacify those being led and fiercely protect their own interest. Disagree? Then go home and write “Not within my pay grade, Prof” 10,000 times and you may understand it better.

To me, Zanial Sapari is a good example. Our workers must realise and understand that they deserve truly better union leaders who are serious minded people and who will truly fight for their interest and not mollycoddle their political masters.

In conclusion, our workers’ ignorance and political apathy is the PAP government’s biggest support and power.

NTUC is not a LABOUR union,it is a PAP Agency to spy on workers’ unions.
Look, all the top posts filled by PAP doggies.
So,if PAP policy is anti-sg workers like FT POLICY,all these LEEders will sing the same song.
    Where is workers’ rights protection?
    In the imagination,probably?

  • Zanial Sapar is saying that he is not paid enough to do what Tommy is asking, so if increase his pay 10 or more times, then only then can he do the things Tommy suggested.

This PAP G will never fight for us. You can forget about it.

If you observe the recent warranted arrest of Huawei CFO (Founder’s daughter) & how China protested with USA & put yourself in her position do you think our PAP G will dare to protest & fight for you with USA?

How many think YES, how many think NO & why got balls or no balls with USA?

    ******
Right on cue, a cacophony of laughter followed that pathetically puerile statement of five words !!!

Sapari appeared really chuffed with himself, equating the laughter as “support” !!!

An absolute imbecilic idiot for an MP, let alone the second chief muppet at NTUC !!!

    Sapari for President then !!!

  • Mediocrity notwithstanding:

Simon, my teacher used to make us write lines to edify us with respect to our moral attitudes. Sometimes he would cane our backsides if the lesson did not settle into our heart.

    @Bapak

hi bro Bapak, thanks for sharing your thoughts and views here on TRE.
Its not universally quite easy to have another sg/other sgs who are like-minded.

sgs are more so ‘BOCHUP’ N SELF-CENTRED more so than they are stupid,i would think?

many are aware of whats going on or are even facing harshsips but chose to keep silent “to avoid trouble’ like how uncle leong and others like roy have faced before him.

the truth is sgs ONLY COWPEH when their own skin get scratched hard.
else, they just ‘tahan-tahan’ the damn gahmen.

but sgs are not so tolerant towards other sgs as you probably know.
worst of all,sgs are so anti-oppo sgs when these oppo sgs are trying to stand up for their sufferrings and these oppo sgs have not done ANYTHING TO CAUSE THEM HURT AND THATS THE GRAVE IRONY i see here???

sad but truth be told even oppo sgs do not trust each other as much as they ought to if they want to effect REAL CHANGE.

MEANWHILE,I GUESS,concerned citizens ,true blue sgs, like you and this old sg uncle, can only make some noises or KPKB here in the hope of shaking up more sgs to reality???

cheerio my fren and God bless!

  • NotMyProblem:

My question is “who’s in his pay grade to do anything?”

At $600 per month, is he in the pay grade to clean table or toilet?

At $1200 per month, is he in the pay grade to take care of security in factory and condo?

At $120 per month, is he in the pay grade to protect the country?

But at $500,000, I can turn the world upside down!!!

  • rukidding:

Impossible that Zainal will go all the way out to “protect” other’s “livlihoods and rice bowl” because his own “Gold plated rice bowl” is more “glaring and tempting” for him to “let go” off !

He is probably great at eating those Mutton soup bones called “Tulan” !

He can “suck” those “good stuff beside those bone… dry” !…can you ?

  • Be real sg lions:

A huge chunk of sgs arent aware of our basic rights as a citizen..and its not taught in schools .
The gov would rather it stays that way..
We need to stop acting like meek sheep that pap had programmed us to be for 5 decades, and start asking questions and read up a lot..
    Knowledge is power.
