We owe it to ourselves to give ourselves a chance

On the first day of the new year, I have to make my monthly payment to the Singapore prime minister Lee Hsien Loong. Hsien Loong sued me in 2014 and won, and I have to pay him S$180,000 in costs and damages.

While paying the prime minister who has sued me, I am also making a small donation to another blogger who has just been sued by the prime minister.

Last month, blogger Leong Sze Hian was sued by the prime minister 4.5 years after I was sued. All he did was share an article on Facebook not written by him.

It is a small donation but I am donating to Leong Sze Hian as a show of solidarity with him. We have to stand together with one another and with the people who speak up for us. Only by doing that, will we be strong and can we fight against injustice as one.

This year, the PAP (People’s Action Party) would have ruled Singapore for 60 years. The PAP also wants to celebrate Singapore’s 200th year of founding as a colony by the British in 1819. Like how some of the Taiwanese feel about the Kuomintang, Singapore has never been freed from colonisation, as we transited from colonisation under the British to colonisation under the PAP.

No doubt from 1965 to the early 1980s, there was a PAP which brought Singapore from Third World to First World. But this PAP is no more. Today, Singapore is ruled by a PAP that refuses to protect the basic livelihoods of Singaporeans, and where the poorest among us have regressed back to the Third World. Singapore is rich enough to protect all of us, and not just a few of them.

We have sang the National Day songs of past, We are Singapore, Stand Up for Singapore, Count On Me Singapore, One United People and One People, One Nation, One Singapore.

It is perhaps time we live up to the names of these songs and unite together, so that together: we can build a nation with our hands, to be united, hand in hand, as one people, one nation, one Singapore.

We have a choice to let them break us, or we have a choice to come together, unite and commit ourselves to building a government that will work for us. We owe it to ourselves to do that.

We owe it to ourselves to give ourselves a chance.

“In his dealings with people, Keng Swee makes no distinction between race, religion, gender, wealth, or power provided they are genuine and decent. Regardless of how simple a view or need might be, he would lend a ear if it is expressed honestly and truthfully. His compassion
and thoughtfulness for the common man have always moved and touched me… He has always led a simple and frugal life whether in his official capacity or in private life…
Whenever he was warded in hospital, he would tear each tissue paper he wanted to use carefully into halves. He would then put one half back into the box for future use and use the
other half. He would often chide me for being a wastrel when he saw that I used the whole sheet and added: ‘its taxpayer’s money’…[but] when the Dover Road Hospice asked for a
donation of S$5,000 to purchase an electronic wheelchair for a patient, he wrote the cheque without a second thought.”

We nèed leaders who take public service as a vocation n not a CAREER.

PAY MUST NEVER BE THE CONSIDERATION if one wants to TRULY SERVE THE PEOPLE.
In any case,we,true blue sgs, will never short-change our public servants.
It is how public servants VIEW MONEY VS SERVICE.
As in any good vication,A Calling to PUBLIC SERVICE REQUIRES SOME SACRIFICE ON THE PART OF THE PUBLIC SERVANTS.
UF NIT,i wud opine its best those current n future public servants refrain from joining n taking up TOP LEVEL PUBLIC SERVICE JOBS N CINTRIBUTE ,if they could,in private sector.

the founding father of Singapore, Dr Goh KS, is genuine. he never lied or put evil charges against fellow citizens for the sake of political power. that is why he is loved, unlike the usurper of power that evil lky whose lying tongue is now cut off in the other world.

  • A memory to the Old Guard:

Its so demeaning that most of the Old Guards never got to share in the limelight as what LKY enjoyed.
In actual fact Mr GKS was the architect of the new prosperous n modern SG of today.
Its just not fair.. wonder how the families of the Old Guards had felt. They are seldom even mentioned.
I heard that a monument to the memory of the few good men aka the Old Guard is in the procesd of being erected. Hope each of them gets equal placing and not only Mr LKY, no doubt he was PM.
