A return of the Mahathir-Anwar leadership? Really?

Not if Anwar has learnt his lesson. The background:

A return of the Mahathir-Anwar leadership?

Anwar Ibrahim enters 2019 in much the same position he was in some 20 years ago: in line to replace Mahathir Mohamad as prime minister of Malaysia.

The once close relationship between the two men turned sour in the late 1990s, during Mr Mahathir’s first stint as leader. The two clashed over the Asian financial crisis, and Mr Anwar was eventually jailed on sodomy charges that he says were fabricated for political reasons.

As part of an election-winning deal in 2018, however, Mr Mahathir has promised to hand over power to his one-time protégé “in a year or two.”

The focus now is on the two men’s relationship. One former minister recently proposed that they give the “1997 recipe” another try, with Mr Anwar becoming Mr Mahathir’s deputy ahead of the leadership handover.

Mr Anwar, however, seems to be playing his cards more carefully this time.

“I never push for [a succession deadline],” Mr Anwar told the Nikkei Asian Review in an interview in October.

But he also issued a warning to any would-be challengers.

“I have forgiven those who jailed, insulted and accused me,” Mr Anwar told party members in November. “I am nice and friendly with everyone, but don’t try to walk over me or I will take you on.”

CK Tan, Nikkei staff writer

His warning

“I am nice and friendly with everyone, but don’t try to walk over me or I will take you on.”

is directed at Azmin Ali, Malaysia’s economic affairs minister. Amin, his deputy in PKR also leads the anti-Anwar faction within the PKR.

It’s widely believed among people in the know in KL, that Tun is trying to get Azmin to depose Anwar so that Tun can say, “How to hand over power to Anwar, when his own party doesn’t want him?”. This is risky because if civil war breaks out in PKR, the coalition is at risk.

Whatever, Azmin and his gang

may slow, or add uncertainty to, Anwar’s accession to the premiership in the hope this buys Azmin time to position himself as Mahathir’s successor instead,” wrote Peter Mumford, Asia director at Eurasia Group, in a recent note. The rivalry could escalate if Mr Mahathir reshuffles Malaysia’s cabinet early this year and appoints Mr Azmin to a more powerful ministerial position. Wong Chen, a politician in Mr Anwar’s party, said many members of parliament were anxious about the political manoeuvring, but added: “The majority of us still believes the transition will happen where Anwar will assume the premiership at the end of 2019 or early 2020.”

Anwar will be the MAN to watch.
All these years of suffering have paid off for him n his family.

Dr M will step down sooner than most think.
Age is catching up n the mountain of debts is no easy meat to chew for an ekderly man.

Lets wait for Anwar to do his stuffs.
Malaysia will be a different country after Anwar takes lead.
His past persecutions would mean a more understandung and compassionate leadership albeit a tough one.

    All the best to Anwar.
Hope he builds closer ties with us especially if OPPO CAN TAKE OVER later on.

  • Sincere Observer:

The real cynical problem is not external. It is internal.

There are already too many problems within Singapore. There is no need to talk about succession in Malaysia. The big problem of succession in Singapore is staring you directly into your eyes and brain. This is where you, as a cynical person, should be cynical about!

More than 50 years under a PAP leadership that has grown fatter and fattest, greedier and greediest, ruthless-er and ruthless-est, it is time for a change. By any standard, it is stale and lack of new ideas; always finding the easiest way out of a problem but in the end either never solve the problem or making it worst. The only successful solution is to impose more new taxes and increase existing taxes, while paying only cursory pretentious red-tapes-linked assistance schemes to pull wool over the niaves’ eyes.

If you are paid by someone or somewhere to sell “ko-yok” to pull wool over our eyes, you have failed miserably, Mr Investor of the Cynical type.

  • Bapak:

This guy CI, has nothing better to write other than criticizing everyone else except his master. There are so many pertaining issues in Singapore.

    1) You can see everywhere in the upgrading of infrastructure to accommodate more influx of FTs in Singapore. This SIN-Johore Causeway was built in 1924, hey hello, this is 2019 with so many users caught in the jam for hours, where is the plan, the effort to upgrade the Causeway? Where is their forward planning? Even with the 2nd link in Tuas, traffic situation has still been very bad and why there is no effort put in to discuss with MY to improve it? Are they not aware or are there any political reasons for not doing so? If there are political reasons and all these years our PAP G has been telling the www we want to promote neighboring friendliness and open trade then they are just a bunch of hypocrites.

    2) And this JLB Shame guy promised to thorough investigations into FEW dogs’ mistreatments. Where are his thorough investigations on why ICA is shorthanded when there are so many available jobless SGs? Where are their efforts and attempts to solve this heavy traffic jam situations at the Causeway where so many users are inconvenienced? Aren’t their priorities all wrong?

    3) Strict rules to jail security guards who are caught sleeping on the job! Surprisingly, they (the elites and scholars) never thought how the public will react with the comparison on their MPs sleeping in Parliament! Instead of looking into the long working hours problem of the security guard, they simply implement laws to jail them. You mean only MPs are human beings?

    4) There are so many other white elephant issues – our CPF withdrawal age keep postponing, how much is in our Reserves, the very unethical Indian can turn into Malay overnight, HDB, HIP, gerrymandering, Medishield Life claim issue,….etc. CI will never dare to criticize these PAP-made issues that affect every Singaporean. Instead, kaypoh with other country’s leadership issues.

In conclusion, our PAP G failed Singaporeans big time and CI rather kept his eyes closed! Now, do you know where he belongs?

    so we pen the following.

Singapore news after GE2019 – the start of Mr Lim Tean and Ms Sylvia Lim and Dr Chee SJ and Mr K Jeyaretnam leadership. with the resounding win of Pakatan Singapura coalition, Mr Lim Tean, the new prime minister of Singapore, has announce the immediate line up of Ms Sylvia Lim as Deputy PM, Dr Chee SJ as defence minister, Mr K Jeyaretnam as Finance Minister. Mr Lim Tean says with the key portfolios of Deputy PM, Defence, and Finance filled, he is taking his time to fielding the remaining ministries. His immediate concern is to look for that Home Affairs Minister, who needs to be a tough person to prevent all the pap folks from run road now that clown pap is toppled.

If you think Mahathir is tough on Spore?
    Think again.
Anwar, having been so battle-hardened n successful, realistically do you think 3G, 4G can really deal with him effectively?
Maybe we will be taken to the cleaners though i hope not.

Whether Anwar or Dr M, Malaysia is a democractic country, the voters decide.

In Singapore, all kind of patterns from importing and converting third world foreigners to win votes and now even wanting to use machines to count votes!

Not to mention chasing and suing critics, chase after nephew and trying to play punk with the process to over turn the old man will.

Why are we even bothered with Malaysia when our own back yard already big fire burning!
