Six NSFs, an NSman and a regular serviceman have died in the past 16 months

Late Aloysius Pang

In a statement released late on Wednesday (23 Jan) night, the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) confirmed that Singaporean actor Aloysius Pang has died from severe injuries after four days in a New Zealand hospital.

The statement comes merely hours after Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen said in a Facebook post that Pang’s condition was deteriorating and that he was on life support for his lungs, kidneys and heart.

MINDEF said in the statement that Pang was injured “when the gun barrel was lowered” but did not elaborate further. According to Pang’s artiste management agency NoonTalk, he was “pinned by something”.

Pang’s death marks the eighth death in the past 16 months. These were the past incidents:

3 Nov 2018: 22 year-old CFC Liu Kai died at the Jalan Murai training grounds when an armored infantry fighting vehicle reversed onto his jeep.

28 Sep 2018: An unnamed off-duty NSF was found hanging from a rope in his office in Sembawang Air Base.

9 Sep 2018: An unnamed 23-year-old police NSF died a week after he was found with a gunshot wound to his head. Although tis service revolver was found beside him, no foul play was suspected.

28 Jul 2018: An unnamed off-duty SAF regular servicemen was found hanging from a rope in his bunk in Nee Soon Camp.

13 May 2018: 22 year-old CPL Kok Yuen Chin died after being pushed into a 12m-deep pump well at Tuas View Fire Station. Despite not being able to swim, his squadmates did so as part of a rutual to celebrate the end of his two-year service.

30 Apr 2018: 19-year old CFC Dave Lee succumbed to his injuries after being hospitalized for heatstroke. He had collapsed from heat injury after completing a fast march. There were allegations of abuse by superiors.

15 Sep 2017: 21 year-old 3SG Gavin Chan died in Australia when the armored infantry vehicle he was in landed on its side. He was found unconscious next to it, and eventually succumbed to his injuries.

Pang’s death has drawn considerable flak from Netizens over the role of conscription in Singpaore.

Netizen Claudia Teo said:

While our ah boys got to stop education after A levels for NS, we see FT scholars continue their sponsored education to University ahead of our ah boys. They had early career development and progression while our ah boys join 2yrs later as junior although they were of the same age group.

Opposition leader Tean Lim has similarly expressed his views on a Facebook post:

Aloysius’s death once again reminds us why it is so important for any Government of Singapore to first protect the interests of Singaporeans, be it in jobs, education and other fields. A Government which fails to do so is not worthy of our People and Nation.

Meanwhile, MINDEF has announced that a Committee of Inquiry will be convened to look into the incident and the “tempo of training” will be lowered.

All this bullshit from fools posing as generals and politicians. No f**king idea how to run a small island or how to stop unnecessary injuries or deaths in the army.

Only noise and more noise to cover up what really happened and everyone of them goes Scot-free. Ready to kill the next NSF soldier.

RIP Aloysius – I am so sorry for you. You dies in vain for no reason whatsoever. Life in $G will go on because this is the way of the uncaring little shithole we live in.

I have seen my fair share of “serious acidents” during my stinct as an Instructor in OCS.

All those “sacrifices” , life, meagre pay, for 2 yrs …then another 10yrs “intermittent interruption to civilian worklife”..ONLY to face further “set backs” from cheaper, Better, faster F/ts.

    What about New sillyzeans ???

Well, again,…these PIGs are “great” at “devising schemes” to “twist and shut “our mouths.

Do you really think the “Voluntary NS” was “for real” ( as in real training on par as a full time NS” ???….please lah,..all just a “wayang,…go thru the process of an act..and ALL is WELL ( hoping to fool us,…the dafts )

So,…I am sure our “famous” Puthu Cherry must have by now “gone thru” an “express modified NS training”…maybe 3 months,..and “magically” ( jus like indian become Malay)…he also ( in 3 mths become an Officer ??,,or considered having served NS ???…who knows ??? )

Again,..like those “white horses” who only does “research work in aircon lab,..unlike UK prince who volunteered to fight, and actually “fought” at the frontline !

Yah,..ours,..our BG “commanded a rescue operation on a hanging cable car”…BIG DEAL liow ??? ( actually was a sergent commando who really did the dirty ,risky job…NOT HIM )

Things are REALLY GETTING OUT OF HAND my fellow brothers and Sister !!!

WE NEED TO VTO !…ONLY a VTO could change and bring a brighter future !

In the end,…NO HEAD go “chopped” ,…NO ONE to BLAME ???

Life Goes On as Usual …..UNTIL ???…UNTIL,..many,many more “repeat incidents”

We have GOT TO VOTE THEM OUT !!!

PS: NOW you know that what Mai Hum said last time…”sillypore is for ALL”….is just “casual talk” ONLY !!!

I am beginning to wonder if he really has brain Cancer and ah Heng really got any stroke ????

There was a case in the late early 80s, a Unimog went down a cliff or mountain with all our NS soldiers in Taiwan. Went standing, came back horizontally. No news on MSM, no COI too. Many NSmen also don’t know. Only those selected to attend the Funeral Ceremony knew. The whole process was done very quietly on one Sunday afternoon. The only sounds heard were the last post bugle, the 21-gun salute, and the family wailings.

PAP is really going to kena for this, the spate of deaths in such a short span of time has already made many worried for those whose sons are either waiting to be enlisted, serving NS currently or are still in their 10 year cycle. A lot of guys to be accounted for and a great number of potential victims too.

No point having a wayang COI and saying the same old shit yet again as we all know that nothing has been done. A gross oversight and incompetence has resulted in the ultimate cost, lives forever ended.

I suggest that the govt build a Memorial (like the Kranji War Memorial) to honour those soldiers (irrespective of regulars or NSmen) who died during service to the nation. All those who died since the inception of NS in 1967 with their names and photos inscribed at the memorial site. I believe this is done in other countries. This is one of the ways we can do for them and their families. Generous compensations should be granted to their parents or those families who lost their precious sons being the sole breadwinners in the families.

There was a similar accident in that New Zealand military camp involving Singapore soldiers training there. I believe a howitzer was also involved and as I remember one soldier died then too.

So if I am right, same place; same type of training; same equipment; and also same results. As with all these incidents, there was a COI–but did the army learn anything from it? No!!

That is why the PAP should be removed from office as they have shown that they are incompetent. Senior officers are all trying to become Ministers, they forget about the troops on the ground–those people are expendable.

While the individual soldier may be competent they are put into a situation that is outside their area of competency.

I feel sorry for the family of CPC Pang and extend my condolences to his family.

However, to solve such issues, we need to VTO the PAP—no other way.

While themselves the elites had ran out of ideas, they copy ideas from SDP and WP. Both parties had proven them. That’s also intelligent mah because 70% don’t care exactly where they copied from. That ownself check ownself person has proven many times that his shit idea can not bring Singapore and Singaporean forward instead he is moving his entire party up, up and away. Why the need to have “Committee of Inquiry”. Has any of the committee verdict in the favour of the victim or his family? Perhaps, we can only trust the verdict formed by Opposition members.

That will never be done. Building a Memorial is like reminding the people of PAP’s mistakes and PAP will never do that.

On the part of COI, now they are busy digging up past COIs reports to see if any paragraphs that it could use to cut and paste for this current COI. The problem is only to come up with a new excuse that had not been used before!!

My condolence to Aloysius Pang’s family. Singapore lost a precious son and foreigners in SG are just watching and saying “lucky for me”.

the saf runs because of over priced civilian vendors. the generals who run our nation come out of that BS environment.

not a single person wants to point out these ffffing generals only function with their ffffing mouths. it is the over priced civilian vendors who do the real jobs.

and the over priced civilian vendors love these ffffing generals. because the rule is, sell one item to these ffffing useless generals can afford to live nicely for 3 long years.

the saf is actually a money wasting machine. giving a false pretense at defence. when everything else is serviced by over priced civilian vendors.

  • Dinners are just dinners:

In TV / youtube interviews (SG50 – 8 Dukes), Aloysius self-declared he is jittery and has stress issues that affects him. Probably all his issues were exacerbated because of jet-lag, distance from home, tiredness, commanders shouting, expectations of commanders and fellow reservists, wanting to perform well, more stress, etc. But this is only speculation. There could have been other issues like safety and other lapses. Yet he just does not sound the type you want behind this kind of weaponry. And the current system cannot pick up these traits for individuals and will give him and others like him this kind of demanding and exacting NS role (requiring calmness and precision to handle weaponry) instead of giving him MDC or rallying troops kind of role where his talents could have been better used. Real pity. Just have to live and learn I guess. One day will have better system and way to assess stressed out and jittery people and understand better who are better to have behind weapons or behind the wheel or lead us into battle, and who better and suited for morale boosting roles or other non-combat roles.

  • Caste syetem NS:

The phrase, “white horse” must remain a indelible bad memories of NSmen. Even among the white horses, there r different grades corresponding to later recruitment into strategic bureaucratic position with fast hot air promotion to generals n medals. This reminds pAP nepotic fakes which r forced down the throat of dafts as truth while truth r often rated as adversaries n hotly persecuted by papplps continuing with their polampa accumulation of points to secure directorship in polampa institutions including SGX listed companies which the Govt is one of the major shareholders, meaning Singaporeans common wealth n assets but r deployed like nepotic pap extended assets n used as they like for their credit points-rewards system like those in shopping mall. Of course this is done as LKY in his very young political years rationalized to inqueries from the media understandably the foreign media that if a SGX company Board of Director wanted to appoint his son without experience to head the company, why should he objected. This should make Singaporeans to recalled his polanpa political recruit on his TG Greed Rotten Caravan in its recent hrstionalization lof conflict of interest is not an issue if the appointee is successful career with defining what it mean by success with respect to position, wealth, n more importantly source. Now as for which companies r on the plp credit points reward system, citizens would not have much difficulty to figure out by looking which BOC have infamous plps in their midst.
Back to NS caste system, grapevine has it that the opportunity was used even on tragedy like the unforgetable cable car crash to propagandize the ‘Heroic feat’ of top level WH. The grapevine has it that they have to delay the rescue for the nmuch belated arrival of the prefab hero of the day!
This is seen in the differential SAF treatment of those unfortunate NSmen. Any citizens recalled whether same military honours were bestowed on the past unfortunate NSmen. If Mr Pang is not an entertainment celebrity n have many to register their shocks n incomprehensible demise of their colleague, friend n idol, would he be treated like the other like what the Hokkien Cliche that paknan e kia xi biao liao meaning there will be always children of other to die. A strange but seems looming large as real that if one of the nepotic meets the same incomprehensible accident, would he have state funeral in Parliament n COI will be immediately running around to nail. Upon this most kopitiam uncles n aunties quip that would be impossible n of it really happens, many heads will roll before one can say how can! What ya say to that?
