Troubles at SingPost is symptomatic of the problems in Singapore society

I grew up in an era where the expectation was that it took only a day (or at the very most 2) for local letters to be delivered. Sadly that is not the situation any longer and I have noticed that it is quite normal these days for letters to be delivered up to a week or even 10 days after the date on the postmark! It has already happened several times this year for correspondence delivered to my office.

Now, I have learnt that my experience is shared by many Singaporeans. A business owner is even taking legal action against SingPost for a delay of 4 months in the delivery of an important letter relating to the renewal of a liquor licence.

The MSM will not highlight it, but I gather from various sources that a large part of the problem is down to the poor remuneration which the employees receive. A great many are on contract basis. SingPost now says it is enhancing postmen’s remuneration. It should have had better remuneration schemes in place in the first place.

And this brings me to the main point of my post. It is time that our government and corporate entities treat our workers with respect and pay them properly. To them, every employee is a profit creator.

The problem with financialisation and neo-liberalism is that the top people think that they are the real assets of the company and treat those below them with contempt and as mediocres.

These people will always yell that they are not being paid enough but will not give others a minimum wage. In most instances, they themselves are not profit centers but are wealth extractors and rentiers.

It saddens me that for a country that touts itself as First World, we are seeing with our own eyes the breakdown of so many of our public services.

I suggest that a first step towards rectifying the situation is to pay our workers much better. Singaporeans should not be expected to survive on the wages of workers from Third World countries in a city that is the most expensive in the world – and has been for the past 5 years.

It is time to put a stop to “Government by Corporation”, where the bottom line determines everything. We need a Government that will put the interests of the Singaporean worker first and not allow him to be disadvantaged because foreign labour is cheaper. We are not talking about just one worker. Behind him lies a family of spouse and children and even parents in many instances.

We need to make Singapore Our Home!

  • SingPost is as bad as pap:

we hate it when the seller sends us the package via SingPost. because 10 out of 10 we have to collect the package from CC box.

because although we are jobless and always at home, somehow the SingPost Lj never seems to be able to ring the doorbell and wait, WAIT, for the door to open. always when we expect a package, all we see if a ffffing SingPost message saying unable to deliver due to NOBODY at home. when we are at home all the time.

who owns SingPost? why such poor service? pap. because current pap is ffffing useless so everything they touch becomes ffffing useless.

Remember the good old days when all postmen and women were employed by Singapore Post (not knn Singpost today) and seeing them sort the mail in the afternoons at your blocks was a common sight.

These days the few who remain are either on contract as stated above by Lim Tean or even outsourced to delivery companies. Twice when I ordered items online from overseas were they delivered by couriers engaged by Singpost. It shows you just how bad the situation is really.

And all this came about because Singpost has been transformed into yet another $$$ making entity by you know who. Not enough that a post office sells stamps, envelopes and the occasional commemorative coins/notes oh hell no. Must diversify and buy over every other business and turn in a profit year after year.

When you become a business rather than a service to the public you will definitely look for ways to cut costs. Not surprisingly the poor underpaid postmen and women are the ones who kena. Being on a contract is no fun and outsourcing delivery to courier companies just makes it worse.

SMRT is yet another fantastic example. Years of neglect to the maintenance budget resulted in 2 massive delays almost a decade ago in Orchard along with countless delays and disruptions, a flooding at Bishan and a langgar at Pioneer.

Who knows, PAP may just take SIngpost private ala SMRT?

Trying to cut cost by removing delivery on Saturdays. Now what happens still have to revert back. With postage fees up, residents expect at least a satisfactory service and no less. Instead the quality of service has gone down the drain with misdelivery, late delivery, putting letters/parcels in the wrong address box, etc.

Wake up not only for Sinkpost but also departments, stat boards and GLCs!

I did a lot of online shopping, every time the seller used SingPost, I always knew the delivery would be late.

From overseas to Singapore, it took 5-6 days. After arrived in Singapore, the item would take 7 to 10 days. And SingPost will not inform you on the delivery.

Greed and generosity are opposites of each other; they don’t go together. Greedy people are often selfish people; they think only of themselves, and spare little or no thought for others. But the problem here may not be due to remuneration; it could also be poor work ethics imported into the country. The wages of postal servicemen/women who not that great in the past, but we had full confidence in our mail delivery service.

  • Not the Full Picture:

Late delivery of letters is certainly poor performance on the part of Singpost.

But poor pay or otherwise, throwing bags of mail in the trash so they can avoid delivering them is poor and shameful conduct. Whether or not one is on a fixed term contract, one must discharge one’s duties honourably. There are always two sides to every coin. This sort of conduct reflects very poorly on the kind of people we have in the workforce.

VERY FEW PEOPLE KNOW THIS – TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE AND BELIEF, all mails and postal items in transit in Singpost is ‘CROWN’ property actually in the legal custody and protection of the State. Singpost relationship to the addressee is like a bailor-bailee relationship – no different from UPS, Amazon. dot com in the commercial world. Both commercial entities is liable for loss and damage to property in their care whilst in shipment delivery from sender to the addressee.

Mr. Lim Tean is a lawyer, he can confirm or refute this of material fact.

If my conjecture is correct, those postman who dumped the mail and parcels into the bin are in offence of criminal law. The regulator fined Singpost $100K for the wrongful conduct – TOO CHEAP AND SHOWBIZ of public entertainment. Imagine if it was some legal document with signed value of over $100 million and fixed deadline of contract acceptance, will Singpost compensate the victim (addressee) of his/her misfortune of $100 million in cash for damage caused?

Foreigners, engaged as contract postman or postwomen from recent “barbaric” culture has NO CLUE that dumping of mails and postal items in transit IS CRIME OFFENCE AT LAW. Their simple mind thinks this – throw away the mails and I can go home and rest after overworked and no over-time pay but duped into living on cheap wages of hand-to-mouth survival. FIACK THE ADDRESSEE!!

Why is the SPF and AGC all DIAM DIAM DIAM on this?? AGC got deeply concerned with & entangled itself with facebook mail message exchange of private thought of someone prominent but ignored the crime committed of dumped letters of peasants??

LSS no longer dance on stage with “cheaper, faster and better” nor will be dance “better, betterer, and betterest”, right???

  • Class action suit:

Thousands have their mails lost although they used singpost service eg. Normal mail .
The handling is by singpost or her contractors eg. Those on bicycles delivering the mails into the void deck mailboxes.

Once you post into the box, if lost subsequently, the responsibility must be on singpost. But whenever I call asking why my mail did not reach recipient, the call center say there is nothing they can do. Can write to them but lost is lost.

It’s recent news that revealed what is the IMDA standard for singpost to meet.

So, we peasants have been unfairly treated. They should COMPENSATE. We should launch a class action suit.

Now the issue is how to prove you posted the mail.

    Here is how :
    1. Take a video that clearly shows you have posted into a singpost box. Try to capture the serial number or code that identifies the box too. This is just a 10second video. Capture when you posted and what is the item.

    2. All who have lost mails should collectively file a law suit for lost mails. Singpost must compensate .

I am telling you very disappointingly, many are still blur, stupid and blindly supporting PAP. Don’t believe me? Go CC every morning, see a group of ladies wearing red-top and white pants and ask them who they know? Only PAP. Ask them if they know CPF, MOH, Trains regular breakdown, Singpost, Data Hack, HIV+ FTs issues, they will tell you PAP will take care, no worry. They don’t even know who is Mat Selamat. They only know two persons – The Old Hack & Pink Panty. They don’t care who is their MP, as long as they see the lightning strike, they mark. You think SG got hope or not.

  • Regime change is the solution:

Leaders will do what it takes to put things right: Heng Swee Keat

Finally, an admission that PAP made mistakes. During the campaign voters should use this admission, i.e., “opening”. Do the following:

    (1) First, get PAP candidates to agree that PAP is NOT perfect and that it make mistakes? Emphasize you only expect a “yes or no” answer. No bullshit.

    (2) Ask PAP candidates what “wrongs” (mistakes) they are putting right. Be thorough by asking what are mistakes LKY, GCT, LHL made. Be sure to ask: Was LKY’s “[email protected]″ a mistake.

    (3) Ask PAP candidates for the solutions to mistakes. Do not accept an answer that PAP needs to find out more what is wrong after it gets into power. “Will do what it takes to put things right” indicates PAP already looked into the matter and know what is wrong. Remind them that HSK did NOT say “leaders will do what it takes to put things right if they are any wrongs.”

    (4) Get PAP candidate to agree that going forward it will be more open and disclose its mistakes. Also, to say that “it will most helpful if Singaporeans to speak up and point out what they think are mistakes”. Also, that part of the National Day Rally Speech will include a section on the mistakes made over the last 12 months. Moreover, forward PAP will welcome TOUGH questions and will answer them properly, not just give “spin”.

HSK statement is an opportunity for Singaporeans to make PAP tell the WHOLE truth. It an indication that in the next GE PAP is worried it will lose seats in Parliament.

Nus leadership is but a bunch of mixed plps n Gorilla fartworms (GFW.) The effects of high Foreigner Population/citizen population) (SIN abt 1) on national security n identity r surfacing fast. The increasing nus management slipping into the hands of the foreigners they rampantly recruited is now showing their corroding plans n indoctrination of stupidity, pettiness n greeds. Nus is no place now for our next generation of Singaporeans. zthe recent plan of letting the students to furnish b design their hostel is one welcomed n erroding step. This free the mgment from trouble of planning, corrupting the young to think they r independent but over nothing important which they r in the institution for, another eroding process. 3rd 4th versions of papplps r not only gorillaized but r essentially agents for the foreign intrusion n threats to national security.
No professionalism from NUS but lamed gorilla fart worms with the blessing of the recruits of hungry, greedy n aggressive foreigners. So as the lame nepotic successor unconscious leak out of his warped n gorilla repressed self that u have to be hungrier, greedier n more aggressive to get back what belong to u. So NUS is also so controlled as the rest of SIN.
GE is coming. zvote the traitors out n timely restore national security m protect our own people whether in the public or in our security forces. Much have happened n accountability fades to nothingness meaning SIN is sinking n needs saving GE

Before the start of 2019, I had ordered something online. The expected delivery date was mentioned “1 January 2019″. I waited. On that night when I was with my family and friends celebrating New Year, I had received an item saying that my order would not be delivered to me due to incorrect address. I was very amused that how is it possible for SingPost to send me an email at midnight during New Year about my parcel. Im sure that their working hours do not exceed beyond 6pm(not rlly sure about their working ours). And I had changed my address before the item had arrived in Singapore as I had realized it was wrong (2 weeks b4). Still they didn’t deliver my items to me and in fact they charged me extra for shipping back to sender. Very angry and confused about their service. I did call them up but they kept on saying that my address was wrong even though it had been rectified a long time ago. Ninja-van(another sg delivery business) delivered my orders even when my address was incomplete. This is what you call an excellent service, where the customer is taken as a priority and not money. Singpost, on the other hand, does not take their customers as priority which is very damaging to their reputation and angers their customers easily.
