Members of Progress Singapore Party revealed

The office-holders and some members of the Progress Singapore Party (PSP) which Dr Tan Cheng Bock has applied to register have been revealed.

TODAY reportedly managed to get a list of the PSP members through reliable sources from within PSP.

A composite image by TODAY of PSP’s team: (From left) Mr Anthony Lee, 39, assistant secretary-general; Mr Wang Swee Chuan, 68, chairman; Mr G K Singam, 81, vice-chairman; and Mr S Nallakaruppan, who is in his 50s, party treasurer.

As part of the application process, PSP has to list down who its office-holders and other members are. Of the members listed, 5 were named as officer-holders with Dr Tan assuming the Secretary-General position.

The other 4 office-holders are:

  • Mr Anthony Lee, 39, Assistant Secretary-General. Mr Lee runs his own business and met Dr Tan through his father, a long-time supporter of Dr Tan back when he was a PAP MP.
  • Former PAP cadre Wang Swee Chuan, 68, Chairman. Mr Wang,  who is now retired, has extensive grassroots experience in West Coast group representation constituency (GRC) and was a former senior manager in a signage and lighting company. When Dr Tan contested the 2011 Presidential Election (PE), Mr Wang was his campaign coordinator. A former Vice-Chairman of Ayer Rajah CCMC, he was awarded the Public Service Medal in 2005.
  • Former PAP cadre G K Singam, 81, Vice-Chairman. Mr Singam is currently retired and was a technician with the Republic of Singapore Air Force. When Dr Tan contested the 2011 PE, he was Dr Tan’s principal election agent.
  • Mr S Nallakaruppan, a NUC Accountancy graduate who is in his 50s is an investment specialist at DBS Vickers Securities , was named Treasurer.

Along with the listed office-holders, Dr Tan will also be joined by Mr Wong Chow Seng, Mr Kassim Syed Mohamed and Ms Michelle Lee.

  • Mr Wong, 72,  is also a former PAP cadre and a retired technician. Mr Wong is a grassroots volunteer who was also part of Dr Tan’s PE campaign team.
  • Mr Kassim Syed Mohamed is in his 60s and retired. He was a superintendent with the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority.
  • Ms Michelle Lee, 41, is a London School of Economics graduate who was a candidate for the Singapore Democratic Party in contesting Holland-Bukit Timah GRC in the 2011 General Elections (GE). Back then, it was reported that she worked as a private school teacher.

According to inside sources, PSP will be looking at eight constituencies in the western part of the island to contest:

  1. Pioneer SMC,
  2. Yuhua SMC,
  3. Hong Kah North SMC,
  4. Bukit Panjang SMC,
  5. Radin Mas SMC,
  6. West Coast GRC,
  7. Jurong GRC,
  8. Chua Chu Kang GRC.

With Dr Tan’s party ‘chopping’ quite a number of SMCs, it is likely that these SMCs will see three-cornered fights, should any opposition parties’ horse-trading fails.

Interesting to note, Chua Chu Kang GRC has earlier been ‘chopped’ by Mr Lim Tean’s People’s Voice Party, who made the announcement when his team was making the rounds at Teck Whye on Saturday morning (2 Jan).

Chua Chu Kang GRC  is currently the stronghold of Health Minister Gan Kim Yong, whose team managed a 78.9 percent win over Mr Goh Meng Seng and his People’s Power Party in GE2015.

On a related note, the inside sources also dispelled rumours that Mr Lee Hsien Yang will be joining PSP, much to the disappointment of netizens who would love to see Mr Lee versus PM Lee at Ang Mo Kio GRC.

    Not PSP!

Be careful of vote-spliters, Politic is as smelly as dead rats.

Is PSP against PAP or PV?

LHY should also coffee with Lim Tean otherwise I think there are still the PAP men.

  • opposition dude:

Ho seh lah PSP’s guys are finally unveiled.

Be careful about all those SMCs mentioned, PAP scared stiff of competition so they may have these SMCs absorbed into GRCs instead.

Other than that all the best Dr Tan and hopefully your efforts bear fruit and we all see your party in parliament after the election this year!

Come on all you western voters!

The more opposition parties contesting each other the more votes are split among them. A sure win for the pappies. Plus every oppo team has its own agenda and cannot get along with any other.

Seems like some people never learn.

That would be good for SG. We would have lesser Malaysians coming into SG daily. Every month Malaysians bring back to Malaysia millions of SGD. and Singaporeans also spent Millions of SGD every month in Malaysia. For a change Singaporeans can go over to Malaysia to work, since no jobs in Singapore.

One reason for Malaysia to keep its currency low was for SG to take care of employment of Malaysians.

Think about it; what can you get with S$1 in SG? and what can you get with 3 ringgit in Malaysia now? As Dr. M had said, SG can only shop along the road side.

Do not TCB’s office bearers owing to their age!

Dr. Tan had to assemble a makeshift team in order to submit his application to the Registrar of Societies. The actual candidates will be revealed as time will allow younger and qualified candidates to be recruited into the party!
Do not give up hope as there are at least 7 more months for these candidates to show up.
Just look at the Workers Party…they are quiet but at the same time keeping wraps on their new candidates until a few months just before the GE.

    Senior Pap vs 4-5 G Pap ?

Goes to show that CURRENT PAP team and Leeder is a “lousy” Leeder !

Mr Danabalan and Inderjit should “join” Dr Tan in the “Fight” !

Danabalan should take this opportunity to “slapped” back that ‘Chow Hum” !

wow like that good what ? now daft sinkies can be FTs in their country and even giving 25% discount still can earn sgd3 for every riggit hor ? tcss is easy hor ?

but i do not think that northern neighbour is so cheap like sinkie land’s open leg policy that everyone with two legs will be treated as ‘FT lar’ to compete with their own country men.

Then ask yourself again, family, relatives and friends how many really benefited and had their lives improved or is it WORST?
