Disappointing when PAP politicians put money over the honour to serve their nation

“When I made the decision to join politics in 2006, pay was not a key factor. Loss of privacy, public scrutiny on myself and my family and loss of personal time were… I had some ground to believe that my family would not suffer a drastic change in the standard of living even though I experienced a drop in my income. So, it is with this recent pay cut. If the balance is tilted further in the future, it will make it harder for anyone considering political office”- PAP Minister Grace Fu, 6 Jan 2012.

I was reading some old news and the above quote by Grace Fu in 2012 caught my attention. Instead of thinking how to best add value, she retreated into a calculative and selfish mode. Even with a drop in political salary to about S$1,760,000 annually, that level of salary is a something that Ministers in the G8 countries can only admire about!

Under the materialistic PAP government, political involvements (which are supposed to be a calling to serve and give back to society) have been relegated so far back even when salary considerations transcend the privilege to serve our country and citizens at the national level.

Our politics deserve much better politicians. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that our politics will be much better off without people such as Grace Fu.

In that Grace Fu’s comment, it betrayed her attitudes and her values toward public service. I want to make it absolutely clear that we must never underpay our politicians and I am heartened to note that we have not. However, we must also have the wisdom to understand that politics and maximizing one’s earning capability are two different things. Anybody who is not willing to accept that should not bother to even step into politics.

To me, her attitude is extremely shameless to say the least. If our young harbor such a mentality and we inadvertently allow such attitudes to take root in our society – acknowledging it, tolerating it, allowing it and accepting that politics in Singapore is no longer about public serving but self-serving – then the billions of dollars that we have spent over the decades educating our young people would have gone to waste.

Under the materialistic PAP government, political involvements (which are supposed to be a calling to serve and give back to society) have been relegated so far back even when successful people like Grace Fu who have the privilege to serve our country and citizens at the national level. Over time, our country and citizens must inevitably pay for our collective apathy and foolishness.

Worthy politicians must always have that sacred sense of fiduciary duty that our citizens’ hard-earned tax monies which are at their disposal. That is why, an effective opposition presence in Parliament is of paramount importance.

And that great speech above is how disGrace Fu got her now infamous nickname she would love to forget. On one hand she says she wants to serve, on the other she says if the pay keeps going down it might lead people to reconsider. How very noble of her.

We all know PAP would never willingly cut their pay, it has to be forced on to them. Remember 2011 after losing their GRC they grudgingly cut their pay but it still remained pretty high. Which means even with the cut they are still being massively overpaid ho ho ho.

Fast forward to the present day and although PAP hasn’t had a pay rise since 2011 they sure have paid themselves hefty bonuses over the years to offset that pay cut have they not? 2011 is a far forgotten memory for them, the psychological shock of losing a GRC is forgotten as well.

So what an opportune time for another pay cut don’t you think? If you didn’t lose your job over the recession of 3 years and counting your pay either remained the same or got reduced. Not to mention your year end bonus too if any. But for this lot of monkeys they each received bonuses of between 3 and 6 months which easily adds up to a few hundred thousands of dollars.

Do what you must at this year’s election! Make them lose mor than just one GRC and send a few more ministers out of parliament thank you!

In fact, every single one wearing white in the white party is a greedy fool like grace fu. I bet they all share her thoughts, just that they didn’t say out loud only.

And this grace fool still has the cheek to mock at SDP’s Dr Chee for not having a steady job for years when she’s shamelessly been drawing millions of easy dollars from taxpayers’ money.

While Dr Chee has been trying his best to earn a chance to serve the country and fight for the people for years with his own efforts and sacrifices, this greedy fool was parachuted into parliament and into cabinet simply because of who her father is. If she’s been put into Dr Chee’s shoes for just one day, you can bet there’d be no more this grace fool today coz she’d have sacrificed her life to end her misery than to sacrifice her time for the people and country.

  • The Other Hard Truths:

    Simon,

You mentioned “shameless”. Hahaha. It is now crystal clear to everyone except those who refuse to see, that shamelessness is a highly-cherished “virtue” in the PAP. The more shameless that PAP cadre is, the quicker is his or her rise through the ranks.

We must remove this cancer from Singapore, before it destroys us.

  • Afraid to suffer drastic drop:

DisGrace Fool? Honestly, which private sector boss would pay her such salary? Or even employ her, having seen the kind of second-rate qualities or the dismal performance she has shown?

Singaporeans don’t value your contribution at all. You are serving yourself interests rather than serving Singaporeans. Please return to the private sector. And earn more money like you claimed you can. Why don’t you? Afraid to suffer a drastic drop in your standard of living?

Yet the 70 % voted for her.

Remain in government job gets guaranteed out-of-this-world pay and no pressure to perform and under the PAP, no accountability, unlike the competitive private sector where you have to perform and show your worth.

Now your understand why she die die clings on to such heaven-sent cushy tax payers’ paid job? Or why despite so much criticism of her performance, she still pak si buay chau?

That is why to them, $$$millions is the top priority if called upon to wear a white uniform. To want to serve the ppl is secondary and is just a name only. When in the past, the economy was bad, the white elites asked the workers to tighten their belts and accept reduced pays and bonuses. Others, unlucky ones, were retrenched with no jobs. But some white elites think differently. Even a small fraction of pay cuts, the first thing she is worried is it will affect the quality of her own family life. Hence, we must vote in candidates who do not have such a mentality and altitude, and who are prepared and sacrifice to serve the ppl.

    Voters of Yuhua SMC,

Look at her lean and hungry look. She is more concerned and interested in her salaries rather than the Bread and Butter issues and the ever DAILY high cost of living of the constituency, period. Since she has been complaining that the pay cut has affected her FamiLEE life, in the coming GE, vote her out so that she can step down to join the lucrative private job that is waiting for her to fill up! What do you think?
