Musing of newbie politician…

Yesterday my 7 year-old gave this little piece of crumpled appointment letter to me. While I knew she was appointed class monitoress some weeks ago, I didn’t know that it was such a formal process that warrant the issuing of a Letter of Appointment.

There is this little paragraph in it that goes:
“Leadership is about responsibility, not about position or privilege. You need to have the courage to press on when faced with challenges. On this day you are empowered with the responsibility of a student leaders of the school. You are to put in your best effort to uphold the school values. Use this cherished opportunity to make a positive difference to touch the lives of all students.”

Reading these words, I cannot help but feel that our current political leaders doesn’t even have the values that is expected of a primary school student leader.

“Leadership is about responsibility, not about position or privilege.”

A few days ago, a senior Member of Parliament implied that they are our ah gong and we are just “Si gui kia”. A bunch of leaders who thinks that they are our ah gong, (this ah gong who took the whole chicken, while telling us to appreciate the chicken’s feet that they scrimped and saved for us), sure feels like exerting their superior position onto us ah Sengs.

“You are to put in your best effort to uphold the school values.”

I sincerely don’t know what values does the PAP holds true, they are the ones who:-
1) does not give their due respect to ELECTED parliamentarians from the other camp,
2) despite numerous failings, reject allegations that the 3G team has gone slack,
3) claimed that SDP policies will run our country into the grounds, yet turn around implementing similar policies…

“Use this cherished opportunity to make a positive difference to touch the lives of all students.”

The only difference the ruling elites made, to touch us ah Sengs’ lives, was by way of increasing fees (utilities, parking, ERPs, public transport fees, school tuition, conservancy charges), retirement age, CPF minimum sum, withdrawal age…

Now back to instilling the values, of the words on that paper, onto my 7 year-old’s mind.

The School Principal who handed out this “appointment” letter should have them handed out to her political master in the MOE.
Such hypocrisy, these elite scholars who are parachuted into positions of authority just do not have it in them to understand the ground.

  • Why Not?:

    “position” as “natural aristocracy”

“privilege” = the rights of being the “natural aristocrat”

“course to press on” = courage do things that benefit the “natural aristocrat”

“challenges” = keep the “natural aristocrat” naturally aristocratic

“empowered” = do everything to ensure power stay within the “natural aristocrat”

“school values” = values as define by the “natural aristocrat”

“cherished opportunity” = be thankful that you are part of the “natural aristocrat” and not the down trodden stepped-on rift rafts

“make a positive difference” = make astronomical $$$$

“touch the lives of all students” = suppressed opposition and tighten population

  • opposition dude:

HA HA HA the PAP only tells cock and bull stories and nothing more.

They tell us we own our flats for decades and now they say flats go back to the government after 99 long years.

They talk about meritocracy but don’t say a word when appointing husband and wife teams.

Same goes for any other conflict of interest. When WP had one it was bad bad bad. When AMKTC’s manager was having a conflict of interest it was for the sake of convenience.

NS is important but new make citizens don’t have to do reservist at all

They love telling us they care for us and look after our interests. Price of water goes up 30%, S&CC charges keep going up, GST soon to be 9%, transport hike of 6 cents IN ONE GO……..the list is endless.

So fellow voters, are you going to vote in more opposition and send PAP a crystal clear signal that we all are very unhappy with them? That we all do not care if some big shit minister loses his obscene salary this year?

we shall change back to what we were pre GE2015 after New Government is in power and all the existing pap Ljs and Cbs are indicted for theft and dereliction of duty when pap was government.

until then we live our lives. others can ignore us. we ffff care since 70% ffff care GE2015 has caused untold miseries all round.

“Leadership is about responsibility, not about position or privilege.”

This is what the big chief tells the little chiefs, no, the little followers.

Even little chiefs are all about privileges. Don’t believe? Check with your RC, CC and xxC members.

Your 7yr old should demand some privileges, e.g., the privilege of sleeping in Parliament, I mean, class, or $1 parking inside the school for you.

  • Awesome letter lah:

Holy smoke, is today’s 7-yr old supposed to understand this letter with so many very advance words (values, responsibility, privilege, empower, cherished, positive difference, uphold, leadership, appointment, befitting, discipline, orderly, touch the lives, conduct yourself, courage to press on, faced with challenges, …).

Honestly, TRE readers, how old were you when you could understand all these high-power words?

I wonder, did the principal copy from his/her own appointment letter?

P.S. I hope little monitors understand that “touch the lives” does not mean “touch the bodies.”

    Do not worry Mr/Ms Khung

After being in that position for a while your daughter will realise she can get away with anything and the students will do as she teells them or they will get punished, The school system is set up to believe only monitors and prefects – all others are always wrong (except at prefect election time).

If she continues being a ‘leeder’ in school then she has a good chance to join the real leeders when she grows up.

RDB, it must have been an early April Fool’s Day joke.

I say, it’s too ‘cheem’ for a 7 years old.

Then, would the same be understood by atas Natural Aristocrats appointed as MPs and MOS or Ministers?

I fear not. Empirical evidences so far indicate so, no?

do you hear the word “aristocrats” (position and privilege ?)

well, every student is educated to be upright, responsible, honest, whatnot (all the civilized good stuff). but the moment they step out into the adult world, they could be disillusioned by the serious wayang roti prata practices (many a times) done by adults (usually defended by another set of wayang roti prata by the legal professionals if are able to afford them)..

the reason why you can see protests and demonstrations in universities or institutions of higher learning in other countries – becos what the students see is not what that has been preached to them and so they speak out and act out in such protests and demonstrations.

of course, you don’t get to see such protests and demonstrations done by students in sinkie land (illegal assembly ?) as students here are well trained (conditioned) to be indifferent and accept this wayang as part and parcel of being educated in sinkie land.
