Double Standards Becoming Obvious

Ms Monica Baey

The social media and MSM are on fire for a particular article regarding a NUS undergrad being filmed by a drunk school mate while she was bathing. A very hot lady by her picture and her name was splashed over. But the key here is no name of the pervert was ever found, so mysterious that you need to google it to find out. She complained that the force issued only conditional stern warning and asked her if she want to further her case she needs to take up with the school. Isn’t this a criminal offence and the social media presented many similar cases where undergrads face the music and jail time. In this particular case, it is so strange that the punishment is only stern warning and we heard the pervert was suspended for one term. But some social media said he actually going for internship!

The MSM is trying to side step the whole issue portraying this victim is asking the school to have stricter punishments for future occurrence. But by reading her responses on social media, it seems she is asking for social justice on her case, not just improving the system. In one paragraph, it was stated there is people trying to intimidate her saying the pervert has powerful parents. Strangely many people online were trying to CSI the powerful parents but fail. So are his parents very powerful as someone is trying to hint?

Our red dot is becoming a partial country. When a FT commits a crime, no nationality is mentioned, when a local commits a crime, nationality is always there. Trying reading all the yahoo articles, you see this trend. And look at the punishments, you might even laugh. Remember the case of oppositions asking in parliament why an elite is only paying $1000 fine for asking someone to take the blame. And then the whole loaf of bs explanations from our overpaid politician.

From what we see so far, we probably have two sets of treatment for locals and FT/elite. Do you agree?

Please read the two articles to see how they try to portray the situation, one even suggested the girl felt better now. What a freaking joke, if the girl is better now, why is she going all the way out to air in social media instead of letting it go? So please help yourself to look at non sponsored and sponsored article from you know who.

I like the Ang Mos, they liberated Singapore in WWII, they are the action doers, true to their believes, certainly no easy push over, the more the merrier, also the opposite of white, they are also action fighters, welcome to help liberate us again, of course, which is unlike “run do*ggy” cum translator of yesteryear, you know what I mean, the present “yes-man for a dollar” so many.

But wonder whether she believes in 2nd chance, yellow ribbon maybe???? Hey! Give the kid a chance, accept the apology in Grace. I don’t think you want to ruin his life right, Oh…. is the “bigger one” you are not happy with?…. Ok good, well done. Go ahead.

Poor girl is badly traumatised already as a victim. Now ‘punishes’ her more by splashing all over msm as if she is a bad girl. On the other hand, perpetrator is no name person. MSM ‘protect’ this a*shole.

    Hello, have a heart lah.

  • Cry for ordinary singaporeans:

Young singaporeans out there, like I’ve told my children, if you people don’t know what has become of our country, this incident is a good example of how sg has regressed over the past decade.

There’ve been so many coverups happening which involved the powerful ruling people and people well connected to the powerful people that you should be feeling we’re almost back to a 3rd world country already. Besides those that were exposed by whistleblowers, how many more cases have been swept under the carpet to protect the powerful people?

Not only corruptions can destroy a country, CONNECTION is just as damaging.

An how sad! Our MIB were once so well respected during the 1G’s charge. Now so many incidents have shown that they now only work for the MIW, the rich and the foreigners. People used to say, if you’re law abiding, you’d be safe as the police will protect you. Now it seems, the new saying should be, if you’re powerful or well CONNECTED to the powerful people, you’re safe. If you’re just an ordinary citizen who is a victim of this group of people, then sorry the police CAN’T protect you, just count yourself sway.

  • conu eat shit:

It is very obvious that Nicholas is a son of some PAP minister or their crony. The NUS board is trying to protect a criminal and swipe things under the carpet. If a lowly construction worker were to do the same thing he will be in jail by now.In Singapore there is one law for the rich one for the FTs and one for locals.

When poor Benjamin Lim a 14 year old touched a girl in the lift 5 police were sent to bring him to the police station for interview.

If I were the victim’s father I will TAKE THE LAW INTO MY OWN HANDS,as the authorities are unable to do anything other than give a warning. No father with a daughter can sleep peacefully from now on.If this were a minister daughter the criminal will be be behind bars by now.

  • NUS Student Rich n Powerful:

Yes Kopitiam Uncles n Aunties also opined that the NUS Chemical Engineering student videoing a female student bathing in Eusoff College could be from local or LHL’s desired foreigner rich n powerful family jusdging from the sloppy handling of the criminal act by suppressing all details of the peeping tom while an attitude sounds that medieval social mentality of ‘it’s all the woman’s fault’. by splashing all details of the victim including photograph but fortunately not the parents. ST is very good with foreign news esp political n r blinded with the local politics but not with saucy social titbits. Why should NUS n ST display such biased mentality? No information means speculative deduction n the commonnest in such cases. Rich n Powerful plus Pimps And Prostitutes leg wide policy of foreigners import r psychologically n philosophically logical conclusion.

Understand Kopitiam Conversationists has a good suggestion to address the issue n an effect deterrent to future recurrence. Publicize the full details including family for family has direct responsibility of the young man’s behavior. Jail or few years in rehabilitation n voluntary social work. Remove all info on the victim from all records. If the family is really the rich n powerful, ST has the duty to interview the family the boy n his parents n on the front page of relevant section.

  • Timid No democracy:

    Many Singaporeans are AUTHORITY-FEARING.
They do not know this is wrong.
This thinking is why there is no democracy despite guaranteed by the Constitution.

A peasant will ask we must of course fear authority what. But no. We should respect it but never fear it. Once you fear it. It will slowly take away all power you have. You make yourselves powerless.

The people is not given a political office of power. They only can effect people power by collective effort.

FEAR is what kills People power. Look at all dictatorships. The citizens are VERY AFRAID.

So the question is are Singaporeans courageous enough to Afford Democracy?
Clearly, they are too poor in people power to afford it.

They have been waiting for someone to give them Permission to criticise garment. This day never comes.

So, I dare say many singaporeans who think they travelled the world and knows the world are ignorant that they are fools.Just because you travelled does not mean you understand why people power is necessary and what is democracy.
These Singaporeans like to say, oh I have have been around the world Singapore is still best. But they are laughing stock because of their mentality that garment should not be criticised and they must fear garment. That if the challenge authority they are wrong. They so naive. They think being submissive is right. IS THIS WISDOM FROM A WELL-TRAVELLED SINGAPOREAN?

Or is he a laughing stock?

  • I do not disagree with the writer on “we probably have two sets of treatment for locals and FT/elite” because there really is and is not just restricted to Singapore.

This approach can be found in most countries and IMHO, is not a bad thing, with the exception of serious offences. There is really nothing to cry father cry mother over just because some supposed FT have been let off too lightly for a minor offence.

It is simply not fair to any FTs just because we don’t like the liberal “open-leg” policy by the gahment therefore all FTs committing any offences should be hanged or put before a firing squad.

An example, a few years back, I was visiting Hong Kong and was caught by their authorities for smoking in a non-smoking Hotel during one of their routine inspection. Had I been a local, I would have been heavily fined but the officer in charge decided to give me a verbal warning for me to never repeat that that again. He could have just slammed the law book at me but excercised his discretion and took into consideration that I was a first timer and visiting as a tourist, who may not be aware that there was such a law in place.

Locals are expected to know the laws better than FTs and IMHO, is a fair assumption, which would probably explain why authorities in most countries are more lenient towards FTs who have committed minor offences.

Now I am not saying that what the FT student did was right, it was surely wrong but that I feel we should not be bashing the authorities every time an FT appears to be let off too lightly. It is IMHO, not a very serious offence in this case and the authorities probably excercised their discretion taking into consideration that the offence is probably non-violent and the victim did not suffer any bodily harm, coupled with the fact that the offender is a first-timer and is still a student. Should the offender be taken to court, it would have destroyed his future and therefore he was given a second chance.

Having said that, had the FT molested or raped the victim and was let off with a warning, then I would join in the bashing and asked for the IO or AG to be sacked.

Everyone makes mistake and should be given a second chance at life.

    .

Caveat: Just an opinion, not a fact hor. My comment is restricted to the police handling of the case, what NUS and local MSM supposedly did/did not do is a different matter.

  • Break The Law U Pay For It:

The police gave him a conditional warning because he was remorseful and have the intention of correcting himself. WHAT A LOAD OF BULLSHIT.

In Singapore anybody breaks the law, you will be severely dealt with unless you have powerful connection.

If I beat up an FT and later says that I regret my action very much and is very remorseful, will the police let me go with a warning not to beat any FT in future ? NO WAY I WILL BE JAILED and PUNISHED.

So Nickolas Lim being a former Police Sergeant during his NS days should know the law better. No 2nd chance. He should be expelled from NUS because he is a big disgrace to NUS and jailed for his crime PERIOD
