NUS Peeping tom incident

Ms Monica Baey

Someone said:

For the NUS case, perhaps the public authorities can make clear what is its difference from the case in which another man has been sentenced to jail doing the same deed.

If the deeds committed are dissimilar in criminal nature then the authorities are the ones, not any university, to reveal this to public since it has been quite a sensational news recently.

Here are my views.

I read the newspaper report on this matter on ST.

NUS said that report had been lodged with the police. If the police had acted on the report, the case would have gone to court and, if found guilty, the sentence would be similar.

However, the police decided to give a “conditional warning”. This meant that the case has to go to NUS to deal according to its regulations.

The Education Minister had asked NUS to review its regulations and impose stiffer penalties. This matter will have to take its course.

However, to be fair to NUS, we cannot expect them to behave like a court. They have other priorities to handle (different from the court). They must conduct their affairs in the manner that they deem to be appropriate (including now deciding on increasing the penalty).

I read another report that Great Eastern Life has suspended the offender, who was recruited recently as its agent, for this past conduct (which occurred before he joined Great Eastern). It looks like his future in Singapore is destroyed.

I do not know this young man personally, but I am sure that he and his parents will be greatly distressed by this matter (just as the girl victim was distressed). It is a heavy price to pay for a mischievous and unwise act.

Mr. Tan, there are people who will go against the norm and will create sensation so as to gain attention just like Bertha with fantastic reasoning!
The fact remains that a girl has been the victim of an offence by a very sick person. That person needs to be punished irrespective of he is an undergraduate or the son of a so-called “well known” person.
If that girl is your daughter would you still have your weird opinion? If that girl is the daughter of any Minister or MPs would the perpetrator be allowed to get away?

This plot is getting thicker everyday. Even an ex-pre$idential candidate also wants to express his view! Since as Tan KL has mentioned that the CASE has been reported to the POLICE, so the BUCK has to STOP at the AGC! Period.

I think this should stop. The public shaming had been done. Yes the girl’s modesty cannot put a price but the man has suffered.

I think vindictive and relentless persecution will do no one any good.

BTW this sort of dirty things has been going in our univs for ages under the watch of $m edu ministers including Botak, big nose Teo and now ah Ong. Those chaps at the univ top management keep busy chasing ranking but ignore educating morality and right values to our youth.

If not for the immense courage of our young lady fully supported by her family to fight for justice and stop this menace, these incompetent miws will continue to turn a blind eye.

TKL,this is an undergrad from NUS no less.
I believe this has been premeditated?

No doubt,he suffers shame but he deserves it.
Look, the same UNIVERSITY acted harshly against DR CHEE who merely used university funds to post some documents or something like that?

Who do you think commit a MORE SERIOUS OFFENCE?

I guess this cheeky chap doesnt need to fear for his future,he will be recruited by MEDIACOCK to play villain in SEX SCENES?

  • Harder Truths:

It is not about NUS. It is about the police taking action regardless of what NUS does or does not do.

The people need to focus on why the police let this guy go when he committed a crime that has been severely punished in other cases.

I sincerely believe this pervert is well connected somehow.

Well Mr Tan the humsup should have known what would happen if he was caught doing what he wasn’t supposed to.

Now that he has been identified and all who know him know that he is a humsup it’s good for his company to suspend him. If he can’t get another job then it’s his own fault anyway, who asked him to go film her in the shower in the first place?

Uncle Tan, I don’t think you will pity the peeping tom if the victim is your wife, daughter or grand-daughter.

On the flip side, if the victim is some highly paid jiakliaobee’s wife, daughter or grand-daughter, I’m sure they would have gone for the peeping tom’s jugular.

“It looks like his future in Singapore is destroyed”.
Not to worry so much. 70% had again given the mandate and blank cheque. They easily forgive and forget. Perhaps one day a blur HR could hire him as Development Manager. The police decision to give “conditional warning” for this special case has its untold reason/s. BTW, who is the anonymous police who passed the verdict and closed the case hastily? Should CPIB investigate him/her if the victim make a report? NUS is really, I don’t know what to say leh.

  • PAP is pro-alien party:

The difference is that in the earlier case the person caught was studying at a polytechnic. In the Monica Baey case, it was a student at NUS. Students at local universities need to be treated with “kid gloves” because there are many foreigners studying in there. Expelling the latter would mean wasting the large sum of taxpayers’ money spent on them in addition to the place in university to given to them at the expense of Singaporeans. A good chance at rehabilitation is just a (laughable) excuse/cover story.

  • Another Mess Created:

On the contrary, Without getting the fair punishment, his life will truly be destroyed because the burden of getting away from a crime lightly will always be with him, putting a shadow over his sincerity to turn over a new leaf and genuity of his remorse.

This episode also reflected greatly on how the establishment view transparency and accountability.

  • KinLian PEis not 4 naive:

Tan KL, think profoundly. If Ministers can be legislated by the pack of parrots (half dousing off in Parliament while the other half r busy with their business or busy in working their strategy to chalk up more credits for promotion to the millionaires billionaires club) to relieve the judiciary institution, fot the start, part of their constitutional mandated independence to deliver justice, the hint passes down LHY/LWL’s so called compliance group. The talented compliers think that all the Drs in the U surely know much more than the cabin masters n r clever, so why not pass the bugs to them. Let them setup a NuUS court just like Cabinated Court.
Such PAP work ethos has precedent when LKY proudly declared in rage that he would relentlessly deal with anyone opposing him n/or his policy n in his rage, he refused to submit to President Ong what he ordered as part of his constitution role as President this time on a good reason that the govt will taken tens of man years to compile the material all in the silent presence of his son PM n all the little n big cabin masters n mistresses. Later he ruled that there is never a first lady in Singapore Constitution upon which he ordered Mrs Ong photo to be removed from all legistimated places where President photo is hung. Many president adoring n loving Singaporeans were puzzled when they definitely read reports of past President n his first lady meeting, visiting , hosting dinners for their counterparts from the world esp First Lady Wee. They thought that what LKY said must be truth n nothing but the truth n that this has been illegal undetected by the past entire constitutional management team including LKY himself, Singaporeans were passively distressed that such talented PAP govt have been sleeping in their jobs over such impt constitution violation. But lo n behold, Singaporeans were once again puzzled when the Presidents after President Ong have all their wives photo hang beside them including current President having her husband hanging besides her photo. No B complier said or did anything even now. Singaporeans r now puzzled First Lady is internationally understood to be President wife but ewhat to call the President husband. Is there any international example. Perhaps like NUS, PAP Govt should spend millions to consult its counterparts. What is another $28 millions spent when it has made history for succumbing to the demand of Well fed Kim to foot the bill if Singapore PAP Cabin Masters wanted him to come to complete their erotic desire of hosting a historic meeting.
So Kin Lian, do u need more example how SIN is plagued with the common cliche of a Chinese Floor King that its (no gender) words r law! If u still harbour President hope, please be street smart. Seriously heed PM words to NTUC re…

  • So amazing:

It’s amazing. First time I know of a govt that creates jobs for citizens of other countries.

Most govts got their hands full trying to solve their own countries’ unemployment issues.
