Why I do not look forward to PAP’s new scholarly lineup of candidates for GE2019

DPM Heng

I have read with interest what DPM Heng Swee Keat said in an interview with CNA – that the PAP is getting its manifesto ready and selecting their candidates to stand for the election.

Over the last couple of elections, the PAP government had been only able to find their electoral candidates from a few sources. These are namely from the civil service, the SAF, the police, the Unions or various government-linked companies.

They had failed very miserably to find good people in the huge private sector. By good people, I do not only refer to their impeccable academic credentials. But more importantly, their experiences and struggles in life, their ability to understand and empathise with the thousands of our working class Singaporeans.

If they are only getting more and more of the same type of people but are hoping for different policies results and outcomes, I am afraid that it is only a continuing beautiful pipe dream.

I am attracted more to intelligence than education. One such good person who comes to my mind is the boss of Sheng Siong supermarket, Mr Lim Hock Chee.

Mr Lim wasn’t born into a rich family and has limited formal education, but this did not limit his dreams, courage, energy, emotional quotient, and his wisdom. He is an excellent example for the young people in Singapore and an inspiration to all. He has proven to all that even in today’s certificates obsessed Singapore, dreams need not only succeed through the book-smart way.

Although having a reasonable education is important in any electorate candidate, the ability to truly understand our people and feel for them is superior than somebody waving some big certificates but really knows very little about the people that he/she is hoping to represent.

PAP’s candidates could graduate from the best, most elite universities in the world. But if they are only using their appointments as MPs or Ministers as ‘On-the-Job Training’ to further enrich their personal value, then they are just washout and worthless lots.

I sincerely hope that our citizens are smarter today than they were in GE2015.

    The points;

Must know how to be “YES-MAN” to empire lah! and keep mouth zipped while collecting the pay-cheque every month. Just look at MiloIndianCumMalay.

“IF” you can successfully zipped all the top scholars and Professionals, filled appointments with own men, what can else peasants do? Pay&Pay to empire?

HDB apartment, pay market rate for land, over and over and over again unlike free hold properties, last forever. The price expensive like hell $300K over for 4 room flat 99 yrs. WTF. Hold on to CPF, force to buy all the useless schemes, tax rise to the sky.

    KNN VTO only solution.

LIm Tean promised to release CPF, that’s a good thing. As promised.

  • NotMyProblem:

Singapore should have more smart people than in Malaysia. Malaysians know a crook when they saw one, even when the crook was doing his “business” behind a curtain of cronies.

We have so much more degree holders and many with special certificates, even security and cleaners were certified, how was that they cannot see through the veil over our Reserve, CPF, GLC, GIC and the pays of the CEOs? Now they further put a lid over them so that you are not to talk or ask about it!

Was it because the certificates and degree cannot be eaten? Maybe all these people should burn the certificates and degrees, put the ashes in water and drink it, they may be smarter then.

They better do it now before the GE.

There is a saying; “Stupid politician is not the problem, the problem is having stupid voters keep voting them in”.

Well it has been said that the good people from the private sector do not want to join PAP since they do not want to be yes people. So who else is left other than the usual SAF, GLC and NTUC people?

And as we can all so clearly see, we have got ourselves people who can’t run the SAF and MOH properly, people who speak Hokkien in parliament calling us si gui kia, people who say you don’t need a large space to screw and so on.

Look for more of the same this year when the new candidates are announced. As usual we will all read about how these new candidates are ready to serve, sons and daughters of the soil and all the usual nonsense.

  • join pap? must be good liars:

pap finds it hard to find Good people because Good people are honest people who do NOT lie, and will never say an INDIAN is malay or inside 200m is not within 200m.

of course in any country there are people who lie whom pap can find but luckily there are very few of them and mostly from penang or some Msia states.

the funny thing is, if Singaporeans are truthful, the more audacious the liar the closer they catch pap attention.

have we not heard pap cow boon hwan say cannot eat degree? but this Msia cow boon hwan has a degree. so what is he really trying to say? NO. he is not trying to say anything but rather lie like pap expects him to lie.

which pap member ever stands up to say HDB is NOT asset that can be enhanced? NONE. even though the lie is clear as day, every pap member, or potential member, must be able to start the lie or keep up the lie.

long story short. pap finds it hard to find Good people because most people are hones people who disdains lies, since the end never justifies the means.

this calls to mind the pap master liar lky. he started the lie about communists and put into action operation cold storage aginst fellow citizens and put them into jail for political advantage.

liars all must face maker one day and account for every word out of their lying mouths and there is NO exception. GUARANTEED.

Our scholars are only able to excel in the exams by regurgitating the textbooks through mechanical learning. What else are they able to show?

Have you noticed that you don’t find any of our scholars speaking their minds (or able to speak their minds) in any panels or congress or public forums in any field, including their fields of specialty? And there have been thousands or hundreds of thousands of these speakers.

Do a search on YouTube. Why aren’t you able to find even a single one, amongst the millions, from Singapore? And our leaders like to boast that we produce the highest numbers of meaningless A students per capita in the world. Or the highest PISA scores that do not translate into intellectual prowess. Name us some important innovations or creative ideas that have originated from the minds of such scholars. None. Almost all of such minds hail from countries with lower PISA scores than Singapore.

That also speaks volumes of the quality of leadership of the group of people who have overseen and shaped Singapore and the minds of Singaporeans over the past six decades.

Are they even able to ask those questions?

So they continue to field their ranks with mechanical minds.

  • ability of the PAP leaders:

Do they even have the ability to measure worth? Or to identity true value?

The only measure they know how to use is ‘scholarship’ attainment, which literally means exam scores. In Singapore’s context, it means mechanical learning. Sheer time and mechanical effort, including unquestioned resources channeled into silly and expensive tuition drumming.

Such is the ability of the PAP leaders.

Straits Times: Parliament: Medical care provided to Aloysius Pang adequate but could be improved, says COI

MINDEF looked after Pang much better after he was hurt and killed than when he was alive. The risk he took that turned out badly for him is predictable.
But it appears nobody higher up cared enough. Is it because NEH said after a previous fatal “accident” that it is “not possible to provide 100% safe training? This might be true but it should not result in 100% effort to mitigate risks. The Government knows all about risk mitigation because it sends it officers to a course called “Enterprise Risk Management”. MINDEF does not attend because the mindset is “it is not possible to have 100% safe training”.

Did MINDEF including NEH do enough (100%) to mitigate the risks in training? It is clear they did not or Pang would be alive today. His death was clearly avoidable so it is not really an accident.

    Great comments by Simon.

Ex-Minister shortar*e Marbok Tan was highly praised by Lee Kayu when he was put up as a candidate to fight against Mr Chiam See Tong at SMC Potong Pasir donkey years ago. Lee Kayu bragged that Marbok Tan has 8 As while Mr Chiam only managed a few passes in their Cambridge School Certificate Exam! When the election was announced that Mr Chiam won, there were red faces in the PAPIGS camp! Loong story cut short. Eventually Marbok Tan sneaked into parLeeMent via the backdoor through the crap GRC System. This MF smiling tiger knows nuts about human touch and sufferings of common folks when First as the Minister of Transport, he came out with ERP and later COE to squeeze as much from motorists. Later, as Minister of MND, he pegged prices of HDB accordingly to “Market Rate” and also quietly and sneakily include land cost in the pricing and yet he got the cheek to say that these flats are “AFFORDABLE” and selling these artificially highly inflated flats caused the Coverment to suffer $billions deficit! This type of MF is NOT SMART. He is fiacking calculative and HEARTLESS! Understand this MF multi-millionaire has invested about $28 millions which is a tiny faction of his vast wealth in some FINTECH company upon stepping down as a Minister! Now, the whole cupboard oops Cabinet is full of so-called scholars, paper generals and PLPs with most if not all of them living on cloud nine and on top of the ivory tower, losing touch with the ground. What we citizen want are dedicated folks who join the government BECAUSE of the CALLING to SERVE the PEOPLE and the COUNTRY. Definitely, NOT the present lots of PAPIGS who are only INTERESTED in OBSCENE SALARIE$$$$$$$$$ and POWER!

Good is relative. Good people can commit foolish deeds or make foolish and self(for minority) interests decisions such as the abuse of the law as do “bad people” who can commit good and make wise decisions(all relatively speaking)

The world is not going to be a better place because of “good people”(all relative). The world will change for the better if we stop this stupidity of seeking good people(no one will want bad people either) to run the world( or your own nation) – unless you are blind, like most purportedly smart people(too smart for their own good).
