Why most Singaporeans keep voting for PAP

It’s like shopping leh:

self-reinforcing cycle, where they became more and more attached to a product.

We are attached to the PAP because we keep voting for it.

Analysing the decisions we make in the supermarket can help us understand the choices we make in other areas of our lives.

Analysing the buying decisions of 280,000 customers revealed that they fell into a self-reinforcing cycle, where they became more and more attached to a product.

These cycles tend to last for several consecutive store visits before the pattern is broken and the process starts again with a different brand.

Interestingly, when consumers break out of these self-reinforcing loops, they tend to do so across multiple products at a time.

For example, when switching their brand of coffee, they are more likely to change their brands of yoghurt and washing detergent as well.

Blind loyalty

Why does this loyalty build up?

Further analysis of the data ruled out simpler explanations, such as price or force of habit being responsible for these patterns.

One explanation is that people come to like what they purchase, out of a need to “make sense” and explain their choices to themselves and others.

For example, after buying the ingredients for a salad, a consumer might start to value healthy foods more to justify the purchase.

This pattern of behaviour could be exploited to try to create a relationship with a selected product.

In the loyalty card study, we sent the supermarket’s instant coffee drinking customers coupons to try a different brand.

Those in the switching phase were twice as likely to use the coupon as those still locked in to their existing coffee product.

Beyond shopping

This self-justified decision making is not limited to the weekly shop, but probably spills over to many areas of our lives.

For example, studies suggest people defend their selection of everything from the jam they buy to the politicians they decide to vote for in an election.

After we vote for a leader we may mimic their positions on many issues, including those we were undecided about or even to which we were opposed.

Aiyah everyone already knows that the kiasees vote PAP because they are kiasee mah! Who hasn’t heard this bunch recite the 2 most famous reasons of why they vote PAP election after election? It’s because of their kiaseeness and their simple brains that make them believe that only the PAP can do it, no other party can. It’s a psychological thing lah I tell you.

When these kiasees finally form the minority of voters then we will see some change. When a new party takes over you can be assured that they will make changes so that the cost of living is more manageable.

Once these minority kiasees see that their morning kopi is less than $1 a cup and that transport fares don’t increase evey damn year is when they can see they have more money on hand and realise that another party can actually do a better job than their dear PAP.

VOTERS ARE SILENTLY UNFORGIVING. IBs are useless, voters are smart enough to read, and judge for themselves that those website strongly positive of particular political party is heavily moderated and those “supporters” got a particular slant of counterattacking or denial to adverse post comments directed against them and their political master.

Voters are SILENTLY RETALIATING – you keep up with lying on me, I am gonna defecate the truth and slam it back in your face in the ballot boxes.

CIVIL SERVANTS ARE THE ODD ONES in the voting lot – they are like parrots rattling in caged captivity of PAPpypolitics fear threats – even voting against self-interests if their children are living/working outside the public service domain. HARSH REALITIES, HOWEVER, DO NOT ESCAPE THEM OF FAIR CONSEQUENCES – they will suffer too, even worst, unable to adapt to changed circumstances having cocooned in PAPpypolitics sheltered world suddenly torn asunder.

They are trapped of robotic minds of trapped ignorance. I share with you now this – it is very rare to find one civil servant who is aware and understand the implication of this – the last 6 months saw the 10 yr US treasury bond yield tumbling even as US equities roared skywards until a week ago.THE INEXPLICABLE ANOMALY IS THIS – IF THE EQUITIES MARKET IS SO STRONG EVIDENCING A STRONG US-LED GLOBAL ECONOMY, HOW COME INTEREST RATE DOES NOT RISE IN TANDEM OF A RISING BOND YIELD IN PARALLEL instead of the ACTUAL reverse I posted here?

It means the strength of the US economy is suspect. The Fed sto hiking interest rate. The winners of strong US equities market might be loser BECAUSE ALL STOCKS ARE OVERVALUED. Assets of all class are overvalued.

Imagine civil servants with “secured” jobs and paychecks bought expensive properties and global economies tumbled, and downsizing even in public service affecting them, they could be trapped with too much mortgage debt and retrenched too.

DO THEY KNOW THAT BE THE FIRST TO FLEE selling out might SAVE THEIR AR*SES AND THEIR LIVES or imagine that PAPpys will come to their rescue – the same caged bird trapped mentality??

I am watching the explosion of US-China trade war like a movie drama of entertainment – to find out who will survive and who will not after the next GFC eruption and global economy crash.

  • Belief in 1-party rule:

To me, i think clearly the reasons why singaporeans voted pap since independence are :
    1. They believe that this system is superior to democracy. They trust that 1-party rule without opposition as shadow gov is a SAFE BET. Malaysia has no opposition with experience running the country before BN lost. But the solution was using mahathir as the opposition. This gave opposition the experience.
Singaporeans are different. Those with prior experience will not form an opposition team to rival . Exception is Tan Cheng Bock. But he has no ministerial experience.

The world mostly should disagree with these Singaporeans because they know there is a risk future gov may not be clean.

    2. Lack of Wisdom. They think they are well-travelled means they are wise and seen the world . I debunk this immediately : Kim Jong ILL also travelled to many countries. What has he learnt?
An idiot if rich enough can also travel the whole planet and even to the moon. So what? Still an idiot right?
You get my point? Well-Educated ? The NUS Singapore national University student VOYEUR also studied a lot right? So many peeping Toms!

    3. Believe in Emperor system. The Chinese proved they have obeyed the emperors for CENTURIES! SG is just half a century old! There is potential for hundreds of years of rule under one entity.
The Chinese dna is well proven.

I need to clarify where I was coming from.
Of course there are many differences between present sg Chinese and imperial China peasants.

But they are still the same in terms of easily controlled by FEAR. They are easily submissive to authority. Is this not a commonality?

Another commonality is they willing to give up politics in exchange for being left unharassed. Is this not a common dna ?

So, the commonality is both imperial peasants and present Singaporeans are willing to bow and cow to fear and authority. This means they have given up the idea of people power and democracy.

Now, if I say Imperial China lasted centuries and sg has the potential of being ruled by one party for at least a century, do you still feel that this is a farfetched analogy or comparison?

Since the beginning of their existence China has been a hierarchical, top down, society. It has worked well for them, albeit with the occasional periods of chaotic political management, for over two thousand years. So I don’t see them changing it. I imagine, as a society, their logic is simple. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

I am only stating that within Chinese consciousness lie a complex of traits that are deeply anchored in their history and psyche which are not easy to change, even when the ruler resorts to extreme measures such as we now see happening in Singapore with laws like POFMA.

Like it is for the people, even for nations, specially those with long civilizational history, it is really difficult to forget either the past left behind, or the uncertain present, throwing up its own challenges. It is this unique dilemma that seems to be haunting the Chinese at this transition point of their collective journey towards the future, hence the selective revival and acceptance of the past history- like recalling the masculine imperial past; blending of Confucian values of deference and harmony with the regime defined ideological variant of Chinese communism and social harmony imperative.

The Chinese are very proud of their long history which is really just a series of top heavy regimes that impose harsh and unfair hierarchy on innocents which eventually self destruct in civil war. Didn’t we just see the latest destruction of empire when the Communists rose? The only thing that has held true through all of it is the corruption of the government in every new rise which eventually leads to its downfall.

Their current political system, the Communist Party, is simply a facade masking this structure. It is a political delusion of “the People” holding power when the truth of it is that Xi is their latest Emperor. When you juxtapose this fact of their structures, then it becomes clear we shouldn’t be surprised by this latest bit of rabid paranoia we had with our own 1-party rule.

Nice heavy discussions from “Haigen-Diaz”, “Believe in 1-party rule” & “oxygen”.
It is interesting to see all different and yet similar.

Just to share an weekend experience of chit-chating with a stranger (a relative of a friend) in a casual outing. I am sharing this because i think this is a very random experience and probably reflect the 70% of my country.

We casually talked about migrating. And for the sake of trying to be helpful, we asked about this couple’s profession and education background.

One is in IT line and changed job recently to work as server tech for a developer. The other was business administration degree background and changed to be half-F social worker without relevant training but got the job through connections. This young family have a child.

Why i am sharing this is because they striked me on my head that they are young educated and yet have a deep sense of misguided knowledge of the world and our country. They asked why an “O” level english is not good enough to migrate to places like UK/AU? They asked why the years of experience in social work is not enough for migration? They thought why it costs money to migrate…

Which of coz, i was too lazy to explain to an ignorant and yet arrogant idiot.

From external we go back to internal, they asked innocently why people want to migrate when SG is the fore-front of many good things…

My wife was so upset that she told them not to migrate and things outside of Singapore is horrible and the next 20mins my wife was sharing all sorts of negative things living out of SG… (laughed) and told them that they were right to stay put since everything is rosy to them. Simply too long for me to share more here as it will be a similar result you get from speaking to 70%, just pick one and you will get the similar effect.

If you feel strongly enough, you will hear what you eant to hear all the time.

This brings me to the point that “Haigen-Diaz” had mentioned, ‘The people deserves their Government’. And to the end of this famous phrase is a revolution when evolution fails.

I feel sorry for those who decided to live in cocoon during the transformation phrase. That is when the worm failed to evolve and dies as a worm.

    The reality inescapable?

The Emperor throne is rotational since the documented history of Chinese civilisation. DEBUNK ME IF YOU CAN!

Even Mao thought he delivered the Chinese from the clutch of feudalism worshiped to live a “million year” ( Mao Tze Tong Wan Shui, Wan Shui bullsh*t and you even bring his Red Book quotes into the toilet during the Cultural Revolution days) does NOT entombed his mortal rein and with it respect of the Chinese people since the rise of Deng Xiao Ping. I can’t help it but noticed that Ah Tiongs DONT Q up to take picture – with Mao statue in the background – with their backside facing Mao to give him one fart of respect anymore. There you go of fake dynastic politics.

IF THERE IS ELECTION, NEITHER CHIANG CHING NOR HOU KOU FENG OR THEIR DECENDANTS GOT ANY CHANCE AGAINST THE PRODUCTS OF DENG XIAO PING (now extending to Xi ChiPing) in multi-party Chinese election. There is a contextual differentiation within China’s 1-party rule because CHINA TOLERATES NO PARTY CHALLENGE from within.

There is election within China BUT IT IS ELECTION OF PARTY WITHIN THE SAME PARTY CADRES.

LEE-jiapore, Down Under, USA, Malaysia etc are different – THEY ARE MULTI-PARTY (different from each party preferred manifesto and political dogma) – contesting and voters have got choice.

IN AH TIONG LAND, VOTERS ARE NON-EXISTENT AND EVEN WITH ITS FAKE ELECTION, THERE IS NO MULTI-PARTY CONTESTING.

POO YI IS A DISGRACEFUL END OF CHINESE FEUDALISM of ONE-EMPEROR RULE which can’t happen anywhere else on earth except North Korea. Like I said, he was a blank piece of paper, the Japanese overlords paint whatever picture they like and Poo YI advertised that.

    2. The peasants under brutal emperors still accept the emperor system for centuries . Many singaporeans dislike the iron fisted Draconian authoritarian rule but still they kept one party rule as their choice of being ruled.
In this aspect, Singaporeans are even stronger supporters than the peasants not given chance to vote . This is why I Prophecised eventually sg may not have elections .

Wikipedia :Lin died on September 13, 1971, when a Hawker Siddeley Trident he was aboard crashed in Öndörkhaan in Mongolia. The exact events of this “Lin Biao incident” have been a source of speculation ever since. The Chinese government’s official explanation is that Lin and his family attempted to flee following a botched coup against Mao. Others have argued that they fled out of fear they would be purged, as Lin’s relationship with other Communist Party leaders had soured in the final few years of his life. Following Lin’s death, he was officially condemned as a trait** by the Communist Party. Since the late 1970s Lin, and Mao’s wife Jiang Qing (with her Gang of Four) have been labeled the two major “counter-revolutionary forces” of the Cultural Revolution, receiving official blame from the Chinese government.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lin_Biao

Lin Biao was Mao’s most trusted confidante and right-hand man before his failed assassination attempt to finish of Mao and snatch power from him.

ANOTHER DENT OF SHAME TO 1-entity rule fiction of Chinese governance no different from Poo Yi who is the last emperor.

THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER EMPEROR IN CHINESE RULE. CHINA’S 5000 year of emperor rule ended in DISGRACE of history.

Yes, China unlikely to return to a emperor system. But in effect it’s still a one-man rule system. XJP has etched his name into the Constitution. No one is saying the return of emperor system. LEE-jiapore is an authoritarian regime, not quite the totalitarian rule as you also acknowledged. Totalitarian is different spelling from the word -authoritarian.

So, mate, it is NOT the same – the size and compact of body construction is also different. Our body construct is multi-racial – China is almost exclusively Han Chinese dominated despite 56 ethnicities – mostly very tiny except the Uighurs minority. Look at how China oppressed its Uighur minorities, not by bloodletting violence but power play of breaking up their social cohesion and habitat compact by sending them into re-education camp and digital surveillance round the clock. China do whatever it likes within disregarding neighborly sensitivities. Singapore cannot do the same – we have to be very sensitive about minority treatment, the kind of ruthless 1-party rule of “doing what we like, never mind what the law (and neighbors) thinks has constraining limits.

In the event of political implosion and disintegration of economy and societal compact, I cannot imagine Lee-jiapore can make a comeback if 30% of our population base is wiped out in its economic disintegration aftermath.

If the totalitarian regime in China crushed 60% of its population base by brutal repression of rebellion, the other 40% of say 560 million is large enough of size remaining to stage a comeback.

China 1-party totalitarian rule may be ok, LEE-jiapore, such a failed regime is terminal.

    IT IS NON-COMPARABLE.

    @ Believe in 1-party rule

‘If a majority of people support it, what is the problem?’
I think you’ve hit at the root of issue there: what holds true in a democracy does not necessarily hold true in an authoritarian state. I am content in my democracy to acknowledge that if the majority has expressed contentment with or desire for something, then that this is legitimate.

However, even if I am in the minority, I enjoy constitutional protections and the robust rule of law. If the majority support something which is against my rights as a citizen, I have legal recourse to say that they cannot enact their desire.

In an authoritarian state, there is no such protection. Your right to legal recourse in China is, at best, a convenient bureaucratic nicety and an indicator of favoured ethnic status in the eyes of the regime. It is the nature of authoritarianism that should either of those things change – the convenience of the rule of law, or your status as a desirable person – then all that stands between you and a concentration camp is literally luck.

I certainly don’t think that one’s wrong about the abuses perpetrated by the West. However, the CCP is only improving the lives of middle-class, urban, Han, secular/Buddhist Party members. If you are not those things, IE Uighurs, Tibetan, Christian, etc, life in China is rapidly becoming an Orwellian hellscape.

You see very few happy faces there, especially on the indigenous Uighurs and Kazakhs. A treacly piece of rhetoric. But China has had regimes like this since the First Emperor of Qin burned subversive books in the 3rd century BC. No doubt the communist regime will fall, someday, sooner or later. But it will be replaced by another Chinese-style regime, which will not be a replica of an idealized American democracy.

As with so much else in China, too, the government lies about what it’s doing. It flat-out denies the use of arbitrary detention, the targeting of an ethnic minority, or the existence of the re-education camps.

We are talking about a country that still enforces forced abortions if a woman goes over the legal limit for children (used to be one child, now it is two). Not one media outlet has made the distinction between the 11 million Uighur Muslims who constitute half of the population of Xinjiang and the 11 million Hui Muslims who have lived throughout China since the seventh century.

For fourteen centuries, the Hui have practiced Islam while holding positions as military generals and soldiers, government officials and political leaders, traders and businessmen, scholars and artists – regardless of the dynasty, the Republic of China or Communist China.

Why have Hui Muslims been treated differently from Uighur Muslims for over a thousand years? Because Hui Muslims are Chinese (five ethnicities are officially recognized as Chinese – Han, Mongol, Manchu, Tibetan, Hui); Uighur Muslims are Turkic. Hui speak Mandarin; Uighur speak a Turkic dialect. Physically and culturally, they are different.

One point to make about China’s current one-party ‘experiment’, statecraft in China has an enormously long history. It is not working in tiny Singapore of some 4 million people of different ethnicity, where there is a seething undercurrent of dislike for the political system.

Today’s China is one party rule, but not democracy, for sure. Singapore is arguably a de facto single-party democracy. While this is true, it occurs to have missed the point about single party democracy: Its a euphemism for dictatorship. There are fractions within the 1-party system, which feign some functionality of checks and balances.

Predicting China is a futile task. Who could have predicted the Great Cultural Revolution and more than one could predicted China’s vast economic and international political clout after the Cultural Revolution was finally over? Who could has predicted the fall of Bo Xilai because he tried to take down his former police chief. For that matter, who could have predicted that by 1949 the Communist Party and its rag tag army could have out-foxed Chiang Kai-Shek?

How do you expect it to work in a country of 1.4 billion people? How does one party accommodate millions of varied political, economic and social preferences that are bound to emerge as Chinese get socially and economically empowered?

Neither the PAPpys nor Oppies can guarantee one a banquet – except that PAPpys dreamland fiction of rising property price forever (particularly HDBs) is now A SHATTERED MYTH.

Those YOLOs now living in condos, if they are adventure-brave of risks taking, night wake up one day to find it is their living nightmare of no escape when economy turns. They might be desperate to exit but no HDB upgraders to take it off the hands even below market valuation. “Owners” of HDB dwellings might find their own expiring lease falling in value and resale price.

It cascade all the way down. Even the high-end waterfront properties and Sentosa Cove endured massive value loss in recent years.

The moral of my writing here is this – the bigger the bet, the higher is the risks of downside price decline and the financial loss in consequence.

I cannot envisage a rising property market given declining economic trajectory we are caught in seemingly irrecoverable and deteriorating external global conditions (especially the US-China trade war escalation)
adding to the risks and gloom. The debt fueled economy is simply not sustainable – everyone is trying to live beyond their means.

WHO IS PAYING for these excesses? The mortgage lender/banker or the YOLOs/borrower come the crunch. It must be settled and will be satisfied somehow by someone and I don’t think the bankers are voluntarily going bankrupt to save the borrowers. AFTER ALL, HE LENDS YOU THE MONEY AND NOT THE YOLOs lend money to the banker.

The Quantitative Tightening in US is the cycle beginning of bankers collecting back their money. The rising bond yield/interest rate from its 2016 bottom will catch those over-exposed and YOLOs losing their jobs are at risks.

There is no such a thing as “low-risks” or “no risks” investment. Property is truly high risks speculation relying on borrowings for most of the costs/purchase price.

Most property-mad YOLOs completely underestimate the risks in property investment (read “investment” as casino). I been in this share market “casino” for over 40 years now and have been burnt until “chow tar” because turbulence surprise comes from quarters I have not anticipated so fast and so virulent of consequences.

LEE-jiapore had the chance to turn around some 15 years ago but that moment is now passed.

PAPpypolitic’s asset enhancement policy of asset (property) bubble economy is FAKE ECONOMY OF TRANSFERRING WEALTH FROM THE POOR TO THE RICH. The poor has only one property, if any, and HDB housing is NOT ownership but merely a tenant leasing for 99 years rent paid in advance – you sell one at higher price, the next one will be even higher-priced still (unless you want to camp on Changi beach or sleep your entire family in the bus-stops).

Buy property to get rich is SELF-DELUSION. Lee-jiapore NEVER develops a domestic economy sector. Manufacturing hollows out and cheaper foreigners flood in displacing local PMETs – PAPpypolitic HOAX economy of population recycling economics and spend spend spend on massive housing and infrastructure to GIVE AN APPEARANCE, YES APPEARANCE ONLY of a bustling economy. The whole island is reduced to a construction site and YOLOs (seeing construction everywhere) stupidly think “en bloc” HDB estate upgrade if U vote PAPppy, buy property-vote PAPpy and you wiil get rich (as if the world outside don’t change.

THE WORLD OUTSIDE CHANGES ARE A THUNDEROUS ROARING PACE, PAPpys sh*t times kept YOLOs and peasants in the dark. It is all GOOD TIMES if you stick with PAPpys. Remember PAST TENSE warning of repentance in Aljunied in 2011?

Past tense was wrong BUT PAPpy escalated the foreign influx after 2011 GE and Punggol by-election. The Population white paper was forced down the throat of peasants after the Punggol by-election. Bigger foreign influx rolled in, more property buying, YOLOs feel rich (ALL STUPID, I will explain below.

Local PMETs displaced cannot afford their mortgage, they exit. Foreigners displacing local comes on lower wages, no CPF accumulation prior, struggle to buy condos, bought HDB resale lifting price higher. YOLOs feel rich, thinking mistakenly that their condo is going to fly to high Heaven. They dream of more foreigners coming in to buy their expensive condos BUT STUPID ENOUGH TO FORGET THAT WHEN FOREIGNER FLOODED IN, THEIR JOBS GOT DISPLACED, they end up driving taxi, sell property, or worst still do food delivery. How to keep their mortgage, now underwater??

STUPID AGAIN and more YOLOs join the stupidity train of self-delusion – buy property-vote PAPpy is the way to go. No need to get high pay job to pay off mortgage??? Stupid again.

PAPpypolitic/PAPpynomics “buy-property-vote-us” mantra is exactly like PROSPERITY GOSPEL – somebody holding the mic, the rostrum and the stage will be getting very rich, IF IT WORKS on peasants’ (in the audience) Ah Sengs and Ah Lians stupidity or until the curtain of truth revelation of scam is finally exposed.

If property is ever the route to wealth fabrication, how come expiring lease depreciates in value over time (and time clock does not walk in reverse) and thse CPF retirement saving entombed in that housing/property coffin got buried with the dead corpse (which can’t be handed down to the next generation)??

YOLOs are stupid to impossibility. Simple economy arithmetic teaches me these facts. If I buy a condo for $1 million, 20% down payment of cash & CPF – what is my asset and liability? After I signed on the dotted line, my ASSET IS EXACTLY $200k AND MY LIABILITY MORTGAGE (plus plus plus interest costs to add in) is $800K (and more).

HOW COME I BECOME ‘RICHER” AFTER I BOUGHT THAT CONDO compared to what I was BEFORE SIGNING THE DOTTED LINE?

Me thinks logically, I am POORER after the purchase. That debt of $800K has interestt carrying burden and MUST BE SETTLED AND WILL BE SATISFIED thereafter with the developer/seller/bankers. Which father christmas or mother theresa IS GOING TO PAY off my borrowing once I fall into insolvency or no longer has employment to feed the ever hungry banker lender? Either the lender goes bankrupt or me, right? I have never heard of lender – be that the bank or HDB – going bankrupt, so it has to be me IF MISFORTUNE HITS MY DOOR, right?

And even if it goes up, I cannot sell since I need another place for accommodation. So what is the “profit” from property buy? It is all ILLUSION inside my head, nobody shares my fantasy dream of wealth or believe in my self-delusion. Am I a bloody fool – living in my fantasyland hallucination of “buy-property-vote-PAPpy” idiotic mantra listening to the FALSE PROSPERITY GOSPEL similar to KONG-HEE-FATT-CHOY?

Wealth has to be productively made by employment or business engagement. Buy property DOES NOT MAKE ANYBODY RICH – that mortgage debt must be pay off by the buyer working his/her butt out for the next 30 years – failing which he/she will become bankrupt!!

If buyer bought (a few) at the bottom, that YOLOs can’t sell it out on the uptrend trajectory WITHOUT DISRUPTING HIS LIFE AND STATUS PRIDE (pride in investing is another stupid disease of YOLOs) and bringing shame to his “fallen” greed in the eyes of his/her mates if they downgrade for “profit”.

So they buy even higher of the next condo. Come next downturn, THEY GOT BURIED IN THEIR GRAVES!!

    @ Jessie Aw ful,

I HAVE GOT FRIENDS AND RELATIVES – millennial – obsessed with getting rich by “buying property”. Mostly I kept GODLY silence in such dumb conversations unless he/she is my near relative who trust my life-long experiences in the “casino” and will listen.

My logic is simple – wealth “CANNOT BE BOUGHT” but can only be made by employment of skills/labor exertions or successful (note the conditional “successful” and no wealth accumulation if unsuccessful) entrepreneurial endeavors over extended periods. That is wealth “MUST BE MADE”.

If wealth (property as illumination of that) can be simply “bought”, YOU NEED A LOT OF WEALTH PRIOR to begin with to start that journey of weealth “buying” to get rich. How many YOLOs have been born with such endowment unless he/she come to life with a golden spoon in his/her mouth or an*s? There is only a small percentage of successful tycoons and a smaller crop of cunning “ownself-cheque-ownself” robotically-obedient part-time actors and actresses following tightly to the director’s script. If you are not in either chosen political economic class, then settles for hard work/solid skills service deliverance or try your luck at entrepreneurial adventure!

Property should only be bought in A GFC crash – buy cheaper when there is blood on the street is the investment adage. It is like an insurance (for accommodation needs) with big upfront premiums and continuing obligations thereafter to maturity BUT WHEN ADVERSITY STRUCK, THE INSURER WILL RUN FAR FAR AWAY REFUSING TO HONOR YOUR CLAIMS (arguing that it is covered by their escape clause that your insurance buy EXCLUDES SUCH CLAIM in fine print).

And that is why I never buy any insurance in my life except when it is mandatory by law. YOLOs also like to buy big insurance feeling that if misfortune stikes, they will become very rich. LOL!!!

Bottomline is WEALTH CANNOT BE “BOUGHT”, has to be “made”.

YOLOs, wanting PAPpys to supply them with an endless banquet via this deception call “buy-property-vote-PAPpys” are Ah Sengs and Ah Lians idiots. The burst bubble of “asset enhancement politics” scam hit the PG and MG really hit of a big tight slap on their faces when they are most vulnerable of retirement age. their assets is rotting away even before they step into their coffin which already entombed their CPF savings. CPF is PAPpypolitics/PAPpynomics scam of taxing their retirement saving to KOSONG (zero) and YOLOs still haven’t wake up to their insanity of this “buy-property-vote-PAPpy” mantra of fake prosperity gospel.

Property wealth is like a lump of excrement tossed about in the whirlwind of tornado. Most YOLOs will get the “lucky” hit.

There is high chance that Pappies will still win more than 97% of paliament majority in coming GE. If not 100%.

It is estimated that you will need at least 55% of the voting population to vote against it in order to deny any party 2/3 majority power in the parliament.

And before that happens, definition of majority power may be changed from 2/3 to 51%.

It is only likely that after 2030 we may see meaningful decline of votes and to turn papies into minority party will be after year 2045 if they are unlucky.

    @ Mike

TAKE IT FROM ME – survey research is ONLY AS GOOD AS the questionaire design construction, sampling reliability and the credibility of the survey organising entity etc etc.

I give you an easy example – of flawed question design, which brand of soda you prefer? Forced choice of soda. the respondent interviewed might only want to drink fruit juices. Another example, would you prefer to vote for the incumbent party or Opposition. Biased question again, the respondent WILL DEFINITELY answer – incumbent!! Why? Because he/she knew that the next question is wait is why support opposition if that is chosen preferred response? He/she has to explain. To rid of this uncomfortable probe, the easy lazy AND OBVIOUS ANSWER is to say “incumbency” (implicitly why change the status quo?) In market research, you call this “halo effect”.

And then sampling, it has to be random, every 10 names (skipped 9) from telephone listing, for example. You can’t interview members of ANY political party to ask their preference. It is BIASED. If there is 5% rejection rate of respondents, the survey is UNRELIABLE. It means that a lot of those views who are in fact hostile to incumbency refuse to participate. So the conclusion is FALSE AND FAKE NEWs.

SO IN GENERAL, I WILL NEVER BELIEVE IN ANY SURVEY RESULTS IN POLITICS UNLESS AND UNTIL I SEE THE QUESTIONAIRE, VALIDATE THE SAMPLE SELECTION AND AUDIT THE REJECTION RATE.

And in politics, PEOPLE NEVER TELL YOU THEIR REAL FEELINGS – they say they will vote for party A in survey and privately with their friends, they vote for party B!!

That explains partly why ALL THE POLLS IN AUSTRALIA election last week GOT IT ALL WRONG – they were strongly suggestive of a HUGE LANDSLIDE FOR LABOR PARTY BUT WITHIN 15 minutes of vote counting in Queensland vote return, they know they LOST!! Euphoria turned into somber gloom. Scott Morrison from the conservative politics of Liberal-National Party coalition turned up A SURPRISE MIRACLE WIN.

TAKE A LOOK AT THIS TWO CONTRASTING SURVEY RESULTS on millennial expectations and “reality perceptions” less than one year later. The surveys, mind you, were conducted by different organisations.

Here Are Some Surprising Insights About Singaporean Millennials

    https://www.imoney.sg/articles/singapore-millennials-comparison-world/

This imoney publishing is strongly encouraging of very high expectations and fantasy dreamland traveling in the minds of Singaporean millennials with respect to income, EXPECTATIONS OF OWNING A BUSINESS within a decade of working, some even “owning” MULTIPLE PROPERTIES but the overwhelming majority is still staying with parents, dreaming of retiring at 65 rich.

and then another survey published in Today Online as on TODAY has the opposite gloomy pessimism.

Singapore millennials more pessimistic, less satisfied with lives than peers around the world

    https://www.todayonline.com/singapore/singapore-millennials-more-pessimistic-less-satisfied-lives-peers-around-world

I have a few questions regarding these surveys and their conflicting results.

    - who did they interviewed in each of the separate surveys?
    - why the cognitive dissonance (gap between expectations/dreams and the reality confronting) and what reconciliations available.
    - as for millennials “owning” multiple properties and mostly staying with parents, why stay with parents (in HDBs???) when you have multiple (private??) properties?? Or were they “owning” by virtue of booking multiple properties waiting for big bonanza of “buy-property-vote-PApy??) winning and more likely to be crushed by the next economic downturn when they can’t even sell off one of the properties at a huge financial loss for cash flow survival? ME THINKS UNLESS YOU ARE BORN WITH A GOLDEN SPOON INSIDE HIS/HER AN*S, millennials hoping to start their own business within a decades, DON’T HAVE THE FINANCIAL RESOURCES TO BE OWNING (fully-paid up) of multiple properties (except bullsh*tting in fantasy land hallucination)

THAT IS THE REASON WHY I DON’T TRUST SURVEY RESULTS CLAIMS PUBLISHED IN MEDIA FOR PUBLIC CONSUMPTION, regardless.

You can’t explain this phenomena encountered. We are a tightly-knit group of gamblers in the stock market casino. We ALL bought Cardinal Resources, an ASX-listed gold explorer which discovered a HUGE gold deposit in Ghana, Africa before announcement. Guess what? On 7 Nov. 2016, Cardinal (CDV.ax) announced a 4 million oz discovery. Naturally, we lucky mob should be jumping for joy thinking we hit the JACKPOT!

    https://www.asx.com.au/asxpdf/20161107/pdf/43cpn3m32rsxb3.pdf

4 MILLION OZS of gold is worth BILLIONS of dollars. The entire market value of CDV shares was only a few hundred MILLIONS only – in naive gullible mindset, it is what Chinese saying – hit the “bi thang” (rice warehouse). We quickly debated and majority agreed SELL EVERYTHING – fiack the fantasy BILLIONS waiting ahead.

My friend’s wife heard of his decision GOT INFURIATING MAD, (as told to me) growled at him as ‘STUPID IDIOT”, demanding he rings to ask for opinions why he sold when fantastic fortune awaiting at the door.

SHE WAS WRONG TO INFINITY. The group was right. Now take a look at the interactive chart of CDV.

Agree 200% with your views on Insurance. I went for an interview with an insurance company when I first graduated. They told me to draw up a list of relatives and friends and get them to buy policies. I was told that I have to pay for my own training.

The interviewer was rather frank. He told me insurance are just pieces of paper. I declined to pay for training saying I need salary. He said maybe can work out something.

So I went back and thought: insurance business don’t need much capital. You just need good quality paper, stationery and a good printer. And the sales person must be adept at casting fears so people will buy.

It’s really brilliant. The sales man makan (eat) his relatives and friends. The bulk of the policy goes to the firm and the salesman get a cut. The insurance firm don’t need to pay salary, training costs. They don’t even provide a service. I mean touch wood, nobody wants to claim right. And you pointed out – there are escape clauses. Yah lor Singapore the por por has various laws to keep your mouth shut. Most sinkies are conditioned in schools to shut the fcuk up and just listen to teacher. By the time people go to junior college, they are very shy to talk and articulate their opinions. Even though you have to do that in tutorials. When you study overseas, notice Asians tend to be quieter. Because Asian culture don’t encourage “mei da mei xiao”. Having different opinions can mean disrespecting elders. But I think students from mission schools tend to articulate themselves better as mission schools are different culturally.

Sinkie culture is such that you say something people don’t like to hear, they gang up on you to shut you up. There isn’t a culture of agreeing t disagree. There is no respect for diverse views, there’s only one opinion. Singaporeans have to conform in viewpoints. There are internet brigades out there to persuade people to toe certain train of thoughts. So why blame sinkies for not speaking up?

Some Singaporeans employers say NUS, NTU grads cannot think on their feet like China people. Sinkies can’t respond fast enough during meetings and stuff involving dialogue. Maybe China men cheaper to hire. So employers justify this by saying China men speak well when a lot can’t speak English!

Yes, you do have a point that Sinkies are over cautious. My personal experience? Don’t articulate views different from your Singapore boss’ or your clients in front of others. They will take it as insubordination and will feel a loss of face. That’s why it’s easier to be yes men in certain situations.

But the law does not cover boasting. People boast freely.Like I mentioned earlier, the China new citizens boast like Singaporeans do:”Oh my son/daughter got scholarship, now buy condo leh.”

Thank you everyone for responding to my question.

And sorry to Jessie Aw ful for mistaken your identity. I though it was a rare chance to get a woman’s view. =.=”

In any case, i just wish to bring to the point that unless the woman population feels a need to change, it is very difficult for much changes to happen to SG political scene.

A simple maths: Assuming that gender proportion is equal, if 70% of males are voting againt papies, it gives is 35% of total. If only 25% of females are voting similarly, it gives us another 12.5% and that is a total of 35+12.5=47.5%

It is a very simple number game. To deny majority control we need above 55% of those voting otherwise. And to turn papies into minority, an even harder target.

If we do not recognise the fact that numbers are very important and focusing on the number u need to fix with the targeted group, it will remain the same for years to come, given the fact that we recognise the psychology of the female population whom main interest is stability and security.

Having said that, i had managed to influence all female members of my family tree except one which makes up the 20% of die hard fan.

    https://sg.yougov.com/en-sg/news/2019/05/22/half-singaporeans-support-anti-fake-news-bill/

Internally, the findings appear to be SELF CONTRADICTORY. What do I mean?

YouGov :Support for the Bill is more prevalent amongst women, with six in ten (62%) supporting its introduction compared to half (47%) of men. Singaporeans with children are also more likely to support POFMA than those without (62% vs. 52%).

and then COMPARING THAT QUOTE above with another finding conclusion in quote of the SAME PUBLISHING SOURCE, same page in fact, this

YouGov : Although the Bill has been widely-debated as well as covered in the media, not all Singaporeans are aware of POFMA. Only half (52%) have heard of the Bill, with Singaporean men being much more likely than women to be aware of it (67% vs 38%).

Notice the windy happy contradictions yet?

This survey interviewed 1036 Singaporeans – a very large sample!

    THE BEAUTIFUL MESS?

If ONLY 38% of women are aware of POFMA, HOW CAN IT BE CORRECT TO ASSERT THAT 62% OF THOSE WHO WERE INTERVIEWED IN FAVOR OF POFMA WERE WOMEN is ever valid?

That is to say, the sample of 1036 interviewed is heavily tilted or overloaded with women WHO ALLEGEDLY SUPPORTED POFMA BUT NOT EVEN AWARE OF ITS EXISTENCE?

In other words, they interviewed a lot of women who are clueless, ignorant of POFMA and still supporting!!

How many Ah Lians and Ah Huays did they interviewed and the result of this effort then came to the BEWILDERING (to me at least) conclusion of headline read……MORE THAN HALF OF SINGAPOREANS SUPPORT POFMA??

On the converse, I infer that A LOT OF MEN who are aware of POFMA DECLINED to participate WHICH THUS INVALIDATE ITS RELIABILITY OF CONCLUSIONS ARRIVED THEREAFTER – that could explain two things

    - lower (than women) proportion of men support POFMA confirmed by
    - higher proportion (than men) of women support POFMA

The results of this YouGov is UNRELIABLE – ignorance and no awareness triumphed over and overshadowed informed and aware opinion base!!!

Which is why I NEVER TRUST THE BREVITY SIMPLICITY of emotional-screaming headline reads conclusion of ANY SURVEY!!

    Anyone any thoughts to add?

Never believe in surveys myself, they can all be skewed to justify a stance. the POFMA SURVEY? I think it will say most people support it. So I won’t read.

If you interview rich people, they will say life is heaven in Singapore. But of corse, the rich can buy heaven anywhere. So conclusion, Singapore is most liveable city. Vice versa for the poor. They will say hell on earth.

Your point on people who stay with parents despite owning multiple properties. They may have rented out these units and collect passive income. Theis group are most likely supporters of the PAP’s foreign invasion. Because, most tenants are foreign. Locals will probably buy their own house not rent.

Females outnumber males everywhere. Look at the Singapore offices. It’s like a harem. Male boss, females sitting at desks everywhere. Nowadays, soft skills like being a good communicator is valued. Don’t like to sound sexist but people tend to think females are better with soft skills.

Women like security. As if men don’t. Of the 2 million plus eligible voters, I think many women might vote PAP for “Security”. Unless PAP makes them insecure. Like getting fired while pregnant. But women should realise there’s no job security anymore. Just like it never existed in the private sector. I think women should stop giggling and talking loudly like loonies in public spaces. Not cool, just retarded.

    mike:

Have a fun time convincing your mates!

AGREE WITH U THERE. It is very hard to convince women that in this turbulent age, STABILITY IS EQUAL TO DEATH by default of non-adaptation to change. If they refused to choose their future instead of falling back to the status quo, the FUTURE WILL CHOOSE THEIR OBLIVION OF IRRELEVANCE.

Pappypolitics and PAPpynomics have failed monumentally. HDB going zero value
and entombed inside is CPF; foreigners displacing local in jobs and housing, runaway costs of living escalation. GRC is a hoax. Asset enhancement is RETIREMENT MONEY EXTRACTION AND DEPLETION.

What gives ahead other then a coffin awaiting of ending future?

THAT IS PROPERTY GAMBLING, when economy turns sour, foreigners leave. Plenty of empty condos, rent will fall. And some condos will be vacant, no rent but its owners still got mortgage every month to pay for the multiple properties they own.

SURELY THOSE YOLOs will die of bankruptcy insolvency. The trade war between China and US might be that dynamite blowing up global economy and sinking LEE-jiapore.

Who trust statistics? And who really follows proper methodology? Even if that happened, who doesn’t massage the figures? Or clean the data to fit the story one wants to tell? The only profession(s) which uses statistic best are insurers and politicians.

I was full-time 15 years in statistical industry. That does not qualify me to be an expert but still able to read between the numbers and dig out the approx. estimation of certain facts within.

Data doesn’t lies, human does. And i will say, let The Emperor parades in his New Clothes.

Let the emperor and his ministers see the “clothes”, for he who did not see is unfit for their positions. Let the emperor marches his procession before his subjects.

And let the townsfolks cheer along with the pretense, not wanting to appear unfit for their positions or stupid.

POFMA just bring the new clothes to the next high level. As a patriotic subject i will measure the emperor’s manhood and cheers at its size.

    Lets be frank here.
Why sgs keep voting for PAP?
    Simple,oppo is too fragmented.
Oppo needs to convince voters they mean business.
Without oppo alliance,it will be difficult to convince fence-sitters,male or female.

We can argue till the cows come home n we will still see the same outcome unless oppo sgs change their own status quo.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH MORE CHOICES? Dr. Chee and LEE Lilian should have won their last election attempt but not enough voters put the nation’s interest first before their dumbfarked estate upgrading aspiration. The estate upgrading is a hoax of vote baiting – peasants, in PAPpylaw, are just tenants in their dwelling, the upgrading paid for by peasants is OWNER-UPGRADING-OWNSELF because HDB is the legal real beneficial owner.

Are the majority of both SMC not stupid enough yet?

Everyone wants Oppo but not in their own ward – UPGRADING UPGRADING AND MORE UPGRADING CARROT (actually hoax) waiting.

If this does not change, and Ah Lians Ah Huays and Ah Sengs peasants rot, PATRIOTISM SHOULD ALL CELEBRATE their misery and demise. Patriotic voices are smarter lot, they will somehow survive.

DON’T FEEL SORRY FOR THE GREEDY STUPID taking EXPENSIVE advice from the PAPpy political conmen and con women.
