Singaporeans Need To Overcome The Pyschological Barrier Of Voting Against PAP

I am in my 50s, I need to say the PAP had evolved from a caring party to now a self serving one. Yes, life was good in the 1970s till 1990s and after the dishonourable son took over, the happiness and money indexes start to decline. Many of us have bought our cheap HDBs and are now in our last quarter of our life; we do not worry much except we know we can’t count on CPF for retirement. For young people, I think this is going to be very hard, a lot will not be able to afford decent BTO and this explains why there are more people not getting into marriage, they can’t afford to.

I went to the RC the other day and found a new citizen from PRC over 70 years old asking help to solve his singpass login. I pondered the PAP is always talking the need to import migrants but why would a 70+ old China man be converted to citizen? So the truth is they talk one thing and do another, very typical now. Remember 7M was just a planning parameter but you saw how many graves, riversides and coastlines being dugged and reclaimed, you know that they are not stopping at 7M, already hinting 10M. Singaporeans need to get used to their bs, they always do another thing. The former political analyst from Australia summmarised best is that they will always pretend to listen but still do the same.

They know Singaporeans have high tolerance of pain, so you can see most policies or cost of living being manipulated with many small changes and spread over short period. CPF changes are now so regular, in few months, you will see changes and after one year, there are many changes and nett nett it is making citizens pay more or lose more. Same for price hikes, you see very frequent price hikes and over time the same good have ballooned so much but you have gotten used to the pain.

I read online zaobao and on the comment section, mostly Chinese Singaporeans probably around my age or above. Recently there is one news saying Sengkang Hospital economy rice is charging almost $8 for 3 type of vegetables and 1 meat. As newer and newer hospitals are opened, hawker centres and food courts upgraded, prices will automatically jumped. And prices of street food is going exponential but pay of Singaporeans are stagnant, with continual massive import of foreigners to come replace or steal local lunches. As such Singaporeans are now very much aware of their pockets and this cry out is not unexpected. I tested a number of people who complained aggressively and the conclusion of what I got is they are all very unhappy. But when you asked them who they voted, some would tell you vote opposition any use or they tell you no opposition in their ward. You come to a conclusion is that they vote PAP and still complain.

Remember the dishonourable son said you vote for me, you support his policies. So if you vote PAP, you mean you mean you did not expect all these? Millions of foreigners still imported, prices of almost anything going up regularly and regular changes to CPF/HDB et cetera. So it is very strange why these people would complain when they know what they are voting for.

With 70% landslide last GE and new citizens becoming alarmingly large part of the population, PAP has no more fear about antagonising locals. The last few years, you had seen more aggressive and worsening policies pushed down our throats without fear. Even future GST 9% was rammed down our throats and not to mentioned the changes to many laws and latest fake news law.

Today, Singaporeans are the most unhappy group in Asia, worked the longest hours and ladden with all sort of debts. Have we reached swiss standard of living or feel like Denmark and Finland? The answer is only ministers are there, the rest of the peasants are struggling to stay afloat fending the massive number of foreign imports landing on our shores every minute.

So Singaporeans need to ask themselves do you think going online to complain make any difference? Have things improved or changed? Even my neighbour, super white fan is now jobless after losing his job to FT. You mean you vote white, you are protected from the lousy policies? Don’t be naive la, things will not change, it will get worst and worst. Remember, complain gets you nowhere, you want improvement? You want change? You have to use your vote effectively and do not count on other wards to do the work, you saw 82 vs 6 and lousy policies still ram down our throats.

Lets regroup, overcome this psychological barrier and vote against the team who caused our miseries and replace them with another player to tell them we have enough of their intimidation and fake promises. Make the change and VTO for a better future for your sons and future of Singapore!

Auntie Gina please don’t waste your time talking to the kiasees, they are beyond hope and not even god can save them. Better to just let them all die rather than get them to vote opposition, they just will not do it.

I don’t know if the rest of the pioneer generation has the same thinking but those that I have spoken to just seem not to care about their flats depreciating and their grandchildrens’ future.

They just tell me they won’t be long in this world and that their grandchildrens’ futures are determined by their children. Needless to say I am stunned by their response so I am wondering if this thought is prevalent among the pioneers.

If it is then this is a truly sad revelation.

@Gina; you are right that the good time of the older generation is over!

Only the older generation can make this comparison. Whereas the younger generation would not know and still ask “What Opposition can do?”. They don’t know that Oppositions can stop PAP from introducing policies that cause hardship to the population.

Since the 2G PAP, was there any policy that was beneficial to the citizen? Zero, only lie after lie!

Why the younger generation still believe in PAP? This generation is supposed to be smarter than their parents, a lot of them hold a Uni degree or any qualification that is better than their parents!

The younger generation earns more, many times more than their parents, why are they worry about housing, marriage, having children, and jobs. Isn’t these caused by the government’s policies?

For those who want to know about the good old days, please ask your parents and grandparents. Ask about what was affordable housing, jobs, healthcare. Why they could raise a family until the government had to stop people from having more than 2 children. Even for those old-timers who did NS, it was meaningful to do it. But now you protect foreigners who took your jobs.

If we’re still sleeping, our last and only reminding right will be taken away. There will not be any voting anymore if we don’t vote wisely this coming GE!

Indonesian went thru “reformation” years ago.
    Still lots of issues.
    -
2018, Msia went thru a similar experience.
Again, lots of issues to overcome.
    -
Recently, some “70%” voter commented – “See. Better to have MIWs, even when incompetent.”
    -
    That is simplistic.
    -
Some Changes are very difficult and wrenching.
    -
Though many Indonesians and Msians are longing for “good old days”,
they know that “old days” were also full of warts.
    -
Many young ones want to forge ahead –
at least, they chart their destiny.

Lets be honest to ourselves first.
Can we see a CHANGE IN VOTING PATTERNS IF OPPO REMAINS IN STATUS QUO?
Oppo sgs chide sgs for not waking up but it is the oppo sgs themselves who are not awaken.

If OPPO truly wants CHANGE,the oppo sgs must first CHANGE THEIR OWN MINDSET about *regrouping*, about Standing Hand in Hand TOGETHER,about about overcoming partisan interests or *manifestos* and bravely forming A TRUE OPPO ALLIANCE.

Without A STRONG OPPO ALLIANCE,we can all dream about CHANGE only, yes,a mere wet dream that feels shiok during our *sleep* but vanished upon waking???

Both sgs and oppo sgs must be COMMITTED TO CHANGE THE STATUS QUO BEFORE ANY CHANGE COULD TAKE EFFECT.

    THINK.

This is the problem when you allowed “meritocracy” to run out of control. All these intelligent civil servants all have become self-serving. We ended up having a government system that milks the people to feed the country.

So please do not, if you have been doing so, berate them for not having more babies, purchasing a bigger abode/living quarters, bringing home more to pay to feed their elderly parents and cover their lifestyles, even just bare essentials like what previous generations used to do in turn for their elderly parents & even grandparents or even beyond. It is just impossible now, even Hercules will readily tell you once he has surveiled and taken stock of the rough scenario on the ground (not ‘up there’, in the clouds, like what the Edwin Tongs and the once-destitute-himself Chan Chun Sings of this world live nonchalantly in!).
