How $4.85 billion can be spent differently

The Land Transport Authority spend $4.85 billion to build the last three stations of the Circle Line. This is 5 times of the average cost per km for the earlier phases of the line.

The finance minister should use his financial control to reject the building of this last stage, due to high cost.

If this last stage is not build, the people living near the last three stations still use other modes of public transport, e.g. buses or the existing lines – although the connection may not be so convenient.

Anyway, they had already coped with the MRT system without this three stations for the past 10 to 20 years.

If we do not spend the $4.85 billion, the government could have given a bonus of $1,400 for every citizen – senior, adult, children, i.e. $4.85 billion divided by 3.47 million citizens).

A family of 4 could get $5,600 as bonus. It will go a long way to relieve the financial stress (money not enough) for many families.

We should be more prudent on infrastructure spending. If we can reduce the unnecessary spending, we can give a bonus to the citizens or reduce (or even abolish GST).

Ok, granted this $4.85 B spent on transport may benefit some sgs over long haul.

What about the annual squandering on F1 N FT $cholarships?
    How much oredy spent?
    F1 more than $1B?
FT scholarships more than $5/6 B?
What are the BENEFITS from such spending for COMMON sgs whose kids are told they do not need to go to tertiary institutions?

What about too big to fail foreign banks?
Salaries paid to negatively performing Execs at GIC N TH?

BILLIONS UPON BILLIONS could have been allocated to GRANT DECENT HELP TO OUR NEEDY N JOBLESS?!

The G thinks OIR MONEY IS THEIR$ N SO THEY ARROGANTLY SQUANDER!

TIME TO CHECK THIS ERRANT CONDUCT!

In the first place, there should be NO GST on basics and essentials, eg raw food, medicines and medical care, school books, water and such.

Whatever it is, the govt’s actions too often Scream that it does not understand the rationale and impact of too many of the things it does. It certainly does not appear to think its policies/actions through. It gives the impression that scholars (and army leaders) are brainless.

PS: The writer makes a good point about the stations but needs to be more careful with his grammer.

There is a strong sentiment towards building more MRT stations i.e. cross-island line, and there is nothing anyone can do to stop it. Perhaps MRT convenience is priceless and cannot be measured in monetary value.

I’m more worried whether our local soil can still hold all that infrastructure.

You heard of “when the water flows, the two river banks will be wet”.

    Who are these river banks?

Giving money to the people? Wait long long! Where you want to eat, hawker centers, foods court, or restaurant?

Maybe during election time! PAP could put some money into your CPF, but cannot use!

When the government wants to spend whatever amount they will use all sorts of excuses to justify it. Terminal 5 is one excellent example.

Giving $5600 to each of us is simply too much for PAP. You know that they would be scheming to get it all back and then some more.

The finance minister won’t do jack shit about the cost since he is part of the party. So forget about any of the monkeys raising this issue in parliament. As far as they are concerned the cost is reasonable.

it is indeed not a wonder when tan kin lian did not win PE.

because he has no brains at all.

doesn’t he know clown pap behaviour? sun can rise from the west, and moon can be blue, but to expect pap to NOT waste S$4.85 billions but to give it as a bonus of S$1,400 to each citizen is nothing short of stupidity.

at least if tan kl has said, do not spend the S$4.85 billions but could have given to pap clown wife to waste, at least then, it makes sense.

but to expect pap clown NOT to waste S$4.85 billions but to give it as a bonus of S$1,400 to each citizen is stupidity worse than 70% sheep.

WTF. with such in our midst, no wonder Singapore has no more hope. knnbccb.

    KL

You have not understood deficit spending. Without spending more and more to cover their ever increasing budget and salaries the system will collapse sooner than later. The monetary backing courtesy of the citizens.

How much are the stations actually worth? Irrelevant. The cost given is how much must be spent to keep the charade going….regardless of what the contracts can actually procure.

Does anybody really think $G needs US F35 fighters at a cost of USD $1500 million each? That’s right. That’s just the purchase price. Not the price for all the additional goodies. How much do you think each ‘plane will cost at the end of the day?

    https://nationalinterest.org/blog/the-buzz/the-f-35-really-worth-the-1500000000000-price-tag-25487

How about the f*cking airport? Or maybe air-conditioning the whole island? Who knows what other nut-brained idea these goons have to get us to pay more?

This will continue until the people cannot pay anymore. Until then expect larger and larger projects and purchases with no end in sight.

Even TKL who lost his deposit in PE2011 with the worst votes could have made a better president than the present useless one.

Why is the useless one not jaga-ing our money? Letting ministers anyhow spent? What’s she doing? Gardening at Istana? The next time she goes under a tree, better be careful. Lightning will strike people who betray their roots just to draw million of dollars and yet doing nothing for the country and citizens.

Thanks a billion tkl, for proving to everyone exactly HOW STUPID you really are

1: The government can give every local man, woman & child $1,400/- instead of spending the $4.85 billion on the last 3 stations, this idiot says. WHAT makes this moron think the pap will give the money to the people instead of giving it to ugly monkey to squander on more failed investments in the very first place?!

2: The real question is NOT why the pap built the stations. The REAL questions are a: WHY dud costs balloon so much?! b: WHERE thedid the money go to?! c: WHO benefitted from these contracts?!

So tkl, instead of spewing crap all the time, why don’t you join your buddy gms in HK then go to china since you teo idiots like dictatorships so much?!

Nearly $5 billions for 3 stations extension. That’s the cost of whole MRT system when it first started. Arguing over whether if it’s useful or not, alternate better use, is missing the real point. Any investment over public transport will be useful.. but at what costs?

The real scrutiny should be why is it so expensive. Who are the bodies or contractors getting the loot. What is the breakdown of the costs?
This is the area to focus.

Malaysia has always have many big projects…always building, toll roads, mega structures. Any construction developers can easily tell you why.

Can you recall the busstop benches, chairs and bicycles that costed a few thousand dollars? Why are these so expensive? Who made the costings, who made the decision to go with $5billion for 3 stations? Who is getting the money, who are the people behind, All these need to be closely investigated and scrutinized. Any discoveries in this direction will make a better Singapore.
