Poor statesmanship from PM Lee Hsien Loong is disappointing

PM Lee Hsien Loong has caused a big uproar and much anger among the Vietnamese and Cambodian officials by claiming that Vietnamese troops invaded Cambodia in 1978. ASEAN solidarity has unfortunately and needlessly comes under strain because of what he has alleged.

Many foreign newspapers have picked up the story and published it widely. Among them, the Khmer Times even published it on their front page. Rightly or wrongly and whether intentionally or idiotically, since a hornet’s nest within ASEAN has been stirred by him and as a concerned citizen, I would expect my prime minister, if he is at the very least honourable, courageous and sincere enough to step forward bravely and clarify what he has said and if a mistake has indeed been made, promptly apologise and close this episode, once and for all.

Yet until yesterday, PM Lee was totally silent.

Both the well-paid and well-fed foreign minister Vivian Balakrishnan and the defence minister, Ng Eng Hen were totally silent too. It was ‘shhhh…’ all around. I have observed that the pap government’s shhhh… don’t talk game has been very effective when played on a meek and well-conditioned Singaporeans but I hope that PM Lee and his millionaire ministars understand that the Vietnamese, the Cambodians and the international community are not a meek or well-conditioned lot, unlike Singaporeans.

Many, many people earning half or even lesser than him and his ministars would have behaved much more responsibly and would have stepped forward to clarify instead of hiding or lying low somewhere and keeping quiet if this had happened to them. To borrow a quote from Chan Chun Sing, “events don’t define us but how we react to what happens to us, defines us”. I hope that Chan Chun Sing has the balls to remind his boss that.

In conclusion, the true measure of a person is not where he/she stands in times of comfort and/or convenience but where he/she stands in times of challenges and/or controversies. On that yardstick, PM Lee and his well-paid and well-fed ministers fare very poorly.

PM Lee’s personal image and reputation might have taken a knock and that is none of my concern but I am definitely concerned if our country’s international standing, image and reputation have suffered because of his “outstanding utterance”.

Singaporeans must open up their eyes wide and see clearly the so called substance or lack of substance in their elected PAP leaders. This incidence is a good eye-opener and discovery.

  • Two cents worth of diplomacy:

Why like that? Just go q up to buy chicken wings at hawker centre. Silly but ok lah to do some wayang. Nobody is hurt or offended.

Don’t open CB mouth with verbal diarrhoea and then create unnecessary angst and friction with neighbours.

Now two elephants bulldozing each other over trade, we need friends, not make enemies.

Applies to any Prime Minister or snakehead for that matter.

You condemn him on the basis of an offence he has committed likewise, he condemns you(with his sledge hammer), by his laws, because you have been made an offence to him.

Both the people and leaders are made for each other like a marriage or social compact born out of a devilish nightmare of stupidity, which in your pride…thinks is great wisdom or noble knowledge.

Papa was an Anglophile and he is a banana, so what to do?

He has scholars to write his speeches. But the problem here is that all the scholars are educated in the west, and the majority of them are bananas. And Lee Banana will definitely use bananas to serve him.

They think like their angmoh masters – in black and white – this side was right and the other side was wrong.

He tripped and fell again. And we are seeing Heng and other ministers rushing to help him up again.

The average Singaporean won’t care too much about goondu’s speech since he won’t be searching the internet widely on how the world has condemned goondu Loong.

So strike that up as another achievement by goondu. China only views us as just another trading partner and nothing more. I’m pretty sure they didn’t forget what our friend said back then.

But hey, look at it this way. This will be his last election as PM so why bother too much right? He can say whatever he wants to say since stroke man will be handling foreign relations after he becomes the boss. So just anyhow whack for the remaining time as PM then fade into the background with some fancy title once Heng is PM.

No need to worry too much about it at all.

  • Wants Good Relationship etc..:

Responding to the Cambodian and Vietnamese anger about LHL’s comment, the Ministry Of Foreign Affairs mentioned that Singapore wants to have friendly relationship, friendship and mutual respect with both countries. Its just full of bullshit. It just show our leaders arrogance. They never want to admit their mistakes and offer apologies when they are wrong.

If the above statement is true, why bring up the subject about Vietnam invasion of Cambodia now especially in a condolence message to Thailand ? Why stir up the hornets nest after 30 over years when the dust had settle down and inviting anger from both countries ?

What has LHL or Singapore to gain by bringing up this subject ? Has LHL got nothing else to do ? Its becoming a bad habit since he had caused anger with China, Malaysia, Indonesia and now Cambodia and Vietnam. Hope these countries will combine and attack Singapore. Then LHL, his Paper Generals and PAP members will have to carry the rifles to defend Singapore cos we Reservists will not lift a finger to help out our stupid leader.

In fact recently he called on Singaporeans to unite and bring Singapore forward in relationship to the coming election. What the fiack is he talking about when daily he keeps bullying Singaporeans ?

Of course we will stand behind him if he can do the following

    1. Release our CPF at 55 years old as per LKY promise.
    2. Reveal Temasek CEO salary and change another independent professional CEO.
    3. Stop GST increase and all other unnecessary price increases.
    4. Remove government control of newspaper, TV and Radio.
    5. Remove POFMA which which exempt Minister and civil servants from the Fake News law.
    6. Revert back to the Elected Presidency.
    7. Allow protest and demonstration and freedom of expression.
    8. Spend more money on health care and help older and sick generation.
    9. Remove all white collar foreigners especially Filipino female cashier at Petrol Stations and retain only foreign construction workers, cleaners and domestic maids.
    10. Re employ PMETS who become GRAB drivers or Food deliver man.
And many other unpleasant bullying tactics.

If not we will be forced to kick the PAP out sooner or later. KNNBCCB

Mr Simon Lim is spot on and his piece is well said. I think collecting so much monies can make a person very happy, but it also can cause a person mentally out of his mind, and say what he likes to say. A leader must be humble and set a good example for the rest to follow. As a citizen of my country, I hope he comes out quickly to apologise or say a word of sorry. To continue and remain silent does not augur well for SG and that of our good relationships with the affected countries.

PM Lee is far too comfortable in his little kingdom of the little red dot. But this also bores him, needs to create publicity for publicity’s sake, so that people outside tiny Singapore won’t forget his existence.
Being bold now, he wants to be a wannabe of his father, but he is not LKY
who could speak out whatever comes into mind.
Simply, LHL’s stature abroad dun even measure up half of his father.
Just stop being so childish, always embarrassing we citizens whenever he is in his act again, and again, etc., etc.

Under this fellow, Singapore economy and salaries have been stagnant despite claims building 2 resorts will revitalise the island. STI hasnt gone anywhere in decades. So when is this guy gonna quit?? Vietnamese and Cambodian govts object to PM Lee ‘s remark because Cambodia needs to defend its legitimacy as a gov’t formed with help of Vietnam while Vietnam objects because it wouldnt accept that it in fact invaded and started wars with neighbouring countries including Thailand. Only a war with China changed Vietnam’s course. Singaporean’s should not spite the PM on behalf of foreign forces just because you don’t like the PM. Learn other people like Jews, Japanese Australian, Malays Indonesian Philippine, Indian,… The principle is always defend your own kind first by default unless your own kind is clearly at fault. It is primitive but that is how the world still works. Singapore seems to be full of morons.
