State our grievance clearly

We should state our grievance clearly. We should not vent our anger on the wrong issue or against the wrong people.

Let me quote this example. There is a big protest in Hong Kong against the extradition law. Most of the protestors are young people who are not affected directly by the extradition law, but are unhappy with the high cost of housing and the lack of social mobility.

They should not vent their anger against the government on the extradition law. They should express their protest directly on the issues that affect them.

Let me now turn to Singapore.

Many people are unhappy with the government over many issues. However, they do not express their unhappiness clearly. Some are affected by the high cost of living, some by the insecurity of jobs and others on other issues.

They should not join the bandwagon to criticize the government on every opportunity. Instead, they should state their grievance clearly on the issues that affect them or affect other people that they empathize with.

I encounter this situation quite often. I write on a specific issue. Some people make their comment on another issue which is totally irrelevant. I have to delete the comment as it does not help the discussion on the specific issue.

@Mr. Tan; you are wrong to say young people were not affected directly by the extradition law. They are protesting against this law to prevent China from eroding their liberties. They worry about their future freedom. Extradition law allows HK govt to handover dissidents to China, the disqualification of prominent politicians, the de facto expulsion of a foreign journalist and the jailing of democracy protest leaders.

SG’s POFMA also the same, it protects the Govt from lying but whatever other said were lies, if the govt considers so! SG and other organisations protested very CLEARLY AND DIRECTLY! What happened?

Mr.TAN Kin Lian you are just talking cock like someone who just come out from nowhere who doesn’t know Singapore. You took part in several protest in Hong Lim Park, gave speeches on specific issues. Did the government listen to you or not? Others also did the same protest, any use or not?
There are a host of social-economic issues, many Singaporeans had voiced out specifically, any use or not? When all these issues are ignored all the angst, anger and frustration will just build up till no one bothers to talk about specific issues anymore. The PAP had done some good but lately there are so many wrongs that are so staggering such that it over shadowed the good that PAP had done. People who are not as articulate are seeing this happening. After some time people just generally distrust, becomes cynical with whatever the government is doing and resentful of the governmemt. It’s that simple.
You are not a Hong Konger, how would you know what exactly the young people of Hong Kong feel?

Know WHY people complain about the government over the high costs of living and lack of job security?! It’s because thse are caused by GOVERNMENT POLICIES!!!! WHO keeps raising public transport costs, utility tariffs, costs of housing and GST? The GOVERNMENT! And WHO flooded the country with migrants to displace us in our jobs and further education? The GOVERNMENT! If we DON’T protest government policies then protest WHAT, when these are the direct results of government policies????!!!!

You know what tkl, you should just shut up and engage yourself in penetrative sexual intercourse!!!!

Mr Tan it’s actually all in one lah. Yes, some are unhappy about the continued influx of non Singaporeans, some about job security and so on. But remember, all these are valid concerns too.

And when it comes to stating grievances clearly there is no better way to do it than at the ballot box. We sent them a crystal clear signal when for the first time in hostory we kicked out 2 ministers that sent shockwaves to them. When the message was received loud and clear the goondu one kuai kuai cut their obscene salaries after so many years of complaints, demoted 2 ministers and 2 former PMs down to mere MP status and introduced the PGP.

So, will we send another signal to them this year? Wait and see.

MATE, COMMENTS LIKE THIS BELOW reveal your arrogance overlay your ignorance on some of the subjects you wrote in TRE.

    Here is one.

Tariffs and disruption to supply chains

    http://www.tremeritus.net/2019/07/01/tariffs-and-disruption-to-supply-chains/

For someone of your credentialed background and to be giving speech on investment field (Hyflux is example) your writing on tariff and relevant economics is surprisingly narrow and it is shallow. Surely a rigorous discussion must expand way beyond the depth and expanse of your shallow pandering to superficiality.

DO YOU FAULT COMMENTERS IN THAT THREAD FOR EXPRESSING THEIR EXPANSIVE VIEWS?

Someone else gave you his/her full and frank feedback whether you like it or not.

Surely you can’t be Mr. know-it-all and in every topical subject when you wrote without evidential substantiation in backing, right?

And reciprocal expressions will come naturally when you present yourself as a tall poppy.

    @ Tan Kin Lian

Can you blame people? More like you can’t articulate with the TRE readers here who disagree with you. You have a responsibility to stand by your opinions when you have the guts to say it. Tio bo?

It is also presumptuous to blame the protests based on your own perspective when complex issues are involved. Please be more humble if you can’t write a good narrative.

Which specifics are Singaporeans not talking about ? But does the G listen. So they bring up topics to show
the consistency of the G not listening. Is that not relevant.

So the only relevance now is to the motherhood thing do rectify the whole situation VTO.

    Then re build from scratch.

I don’t blame the PAP, they have been in power too long.
