Why continued one-party rule is not good for us

Success fails. In the long run entropy sets into any successful political system, as people take its successes for granted and forget what actually made it work.

Martin Wolf of FT in “Why democratic government is showing strains in the US and UK” where he bemoans that nostalgia, identity politics and declining influence of elites sped the rise of populist entertainers.

Getting rid of the PAP’s ability to suka suka change the Constitution should be the aim of an Opposition that cares for S’pore. But Mad Dog and Lim Tean both think that a Coalition of the Spastics can win next GE. Sad.

Where the PAP vote banks (Pioneer G not included) can be found (Winter is here, how big will the anti-PAP vote be?)

Why Milliennals will vote for the PAP

Merdeka Package shows how smart scholars are

Merdeka Generation: PAP cares for u, really they do

Even with a united Opposition and with clowns like Mad Dog, Meng Seng, Lim Tean and Tan Kin Lian (Secret Squirrel says he’s planning to stand in a GRC as part of Meng Seng’s losing team) not standing, and with credible people like TCB, Paul A and Nicola Seah (next chairman of Wankers’ Party when aunty steps down) standing getting more then one third of seats in parly is an uphill task because of the GRC system.

(Btw, if the WP wants to retain Aljunied GRC, Auntie, Low and Bayi should make way for new blood: PAP confident of winning back Aljunied

It’s a long and winding road to a two-party system. No thanks to Mad Dog who mauled the SDP’s three MPs when he became the SDP’s leader. And he still think’s he’s the Messiah of democracy here?

  • We need Balls:

    No Political system is Pure.
    Why do I mean?
Eg. Democracy. Not one democracy is the same.
    Dictatorship. Many flavors also.

Therefore, a democracy today can be a Dictatorship tomorrow.

A Democracy can be a dictatorship democracy. There is no typo there.

There is a Asian country, it calls itself democracy but the rule of law makes it effectively a dictatorship.

    If not Democracy then Dictatorship?

The choice is clear. The best avail now is still democracy with all it’s flaws.

So sinkies need to choose . If you want democracy, make it robust and won’t be a Dictatorship.

To achieve this we need People Power. And Opposition.

The People has to effect People power themselves and not expect the govt to give you people power.

The right way to protest is to learn from Pink Dot.

    A protest based on Love.

Singaporeans need to learn from our true blue Singaporean Gay community.

    Ready to Strike!

Who knows how bad PAP’s fortunes might be in the next GE? No one is even giving them a chance of getting 70%. So how many seats will they lose?

There are enough problems on the ground and we all know that but will enough kiasees be less kiasee and vote more opposition in?

I don’t know what WP and SDP have up their collective sleeves but I hope either or even both can challenge for more than half the seats. Pipe dream I know but that is all we can hope for.

So whatever it is we all wait and see just how much of a decline from 70% PAP will get.

  • Harder Truths:

It is not about how many parties we have.

After 1965 we had a one party rule. It went quite well because the ministers were capable. Now it is not so.

In China there is one party rule. In the USA there is a two party system. In the UK there are about 4 or 5 main ones. If you go to India there is a political party on every street corner – not that it works but it is there.

it is not about how many parties you have.

    It is about TRANSPARENCY.
It is about having the guts to get rid of those who do not give us transparency.

Ultimately the people nust decide how the system works not the other way around. If not – then you die your business.

  • Rabble-rouser:

Politics are failing everywhere! There are no magic formula for reviving real economic growth. Politician who are used to economic-growth-at-all-costs strategies find that these strategies no longer work. The Developed Economies resorted to Monetary stimulus re: Quantitative Easing, Negative to Zero Interest Rate Policies, Financialisation vehicles using cheap money to overinflate asset values then exit the market creating a greater fool outcome for the latecomers; & the hunt for above average yield in a lousy yield eco-system “blinds” investors to the disproportionate risk that they are taking eg. Hyflux.
There are a Creative Destruction process ongoing – old ways of doing business giving way to new (business disruption); declining cost of technology/ automation replacing labour effort & human inputs (technological discontinuity & a permanent loss of jobs); & a new paradigm shift towards the environment, conservation or technology.
The only viable outcomes are either a return to working the land as a means of sustainability or embracing the forefront of technology. For S’pore, our geographical limitations are our greatest weakness. For embracing technology, it is our own educational system.
Govts have no real answer to the present day economic turmoil. All they can do are short-term solutions or even worse, making motherhood statements without any clue of confronting the future.
S’pore’s problems are deep-seated. The electorate had give up their freedoms in exchange for security & prosperity. But that exchange resulted in their own marginalisation & probable genocidal future for their descendants. S’pore’s command-&-control economic mechanism can’t work in a disruptive eco-system because they are:
    * too “blind” to see emerging opportunities;
” too slow to adapt to new technologies by confronting the issues &
    * frankly, their own eco-system of entitlement, privileges & benefits too good to disrupt for the unknown (resistant to change because they fear their own rice-bowls would be affected).
Even the opposition look weak because the PAP had chased away the capable, the intelligent & the better core because PAP’s brand of politics appeals only to the lowest common denominator re: the uneducated to less educated, those who have less valuable skillsets & the unsecured type of people who are dependent on govt for their livelihood.
Why do you think that the bulk of new citizen converts were mainly from 3rd world countries.
S’pore is a one-way journey to the bottom – there’s no way back!

  • CrossRoad:

Stability(false sense of peace) is the main reason for one party rule, as in China but as the Chinese political system unfolds, it is also as unstable/deranged or as overrated as the strongman in the House(similar in all political system).

The man who rose to the top of the mountain is really no wiser or a better person than your car salesman(like monkeys picking stocks) as far as effecting peace on earth, which is vital to nations true stability, peace and prosperous soul.

The problem lies in the selection and ever changing leadership.

    But why?

The simple and straight forward answer is unrighteousness, in people and those they elect into power in a flawed political system which manages unrighteousness by unrighteousness – can never resolve unrighteousness from head to toes.

So those who are for political stability in a one party rule, because it works for you and your unrighteousness, and those who, for good reasons(such as distrust, corruption in high places etc), favor multi party rule will be always in unending feud(as in HK) – which is a bloody destructive mess of deceptive self interests in the garbage of seductive diversity and creativity.

That said, the unrighteousness is never apparent, just like the religious body where outward form(such as laws, morality etc) is observed/enforced and substance emptied.

Or anything tangible, or visually impressive, where money can buy and “clean up”.

In such societies, shallowness replaces goodness, morality replaces righteousness, reasoning replaces conscience and law replaces cruelty and ruthlessness.

Your leaders you elect become “men in white” or men in sheep’s clothing.

You think you are in “green pastures” but chaos/darkness surround you and will enfold you.
