Lessons from the Woodlands double murder

If the accused had gambled in the integrated resorts, many people would use it as a reason to blame the government for the tragedy of the double murder. He did not. So, the government did not get the blame. But he did gambled in other conventional ways.

I do not want to blame the government for allowing this tragedy to happen.

However, I like to point out that this tragedy highlights the weakness in our support system.

Let me share my views.

a) Financial counseling. The accused should have obtained financial counseling on dealing with his debts. He could have obtained assistance in declaring bankruptcy. I know that there is help offered by a non government organization, but surely someone could have referred him to this facility?

b) Access to finances. There is still the need to provide access to finances to meet the living expenses. The accused could have found work, but the income may not be adequate for the family needs. He should be allowed to make a monthly withdrawal from the CPF savings or against a mortgage on his HDB flat. These facilities are not available now. They should be provided.

c) Family counseling. The accused could have sought counseling on the relationship problem with the wife. They could reconcile and have a common approach towards dealing with the problem. It might be possible to give the toddler for adoption by a family who can take care of the child and give better financial support. A divorce might be a suitable option, as it would allow the mother to seek another solution.

d) General counseling. Apart from the support given by the specialized organizations, there is the need for a place where a person facing complex problems can turn to. In past times, he could turn to the priest or imam or the village elder. With the change in our society, this type of advise is no longer available. We now have our family support centers. Their role can be better publicized.

Let us learn from this sad tragedy to identify the faults in our society and build up the support organizations to help to deal with them.

TKL talking cock again. He says “I do not want to blame the government for allowing this tragedy to happen”. In his next sentence he says “However, I like to point out that this tragedy highlights the weakness in our support system”. Who is responsible for the support system? TKL or Garmen? So who to blame?

He rattles on “He should be allowed to make a monthly withdrawal from the CPF savings or against a mortgage on his HDB flat. These facilities are not available now. They should be provided”. Who should provide? TKL or Garmen? So who to blame?

And he continued to anyhow “hantum” by suggesting “In past times, he could turn to the priest or imam or the village elder. With the change in our society, this type of advise is no longer available.” What a load of bull! I know that if he is a christian, he can approach his priest, pastor or elder for help and I am sure the same can be said of our muslim friends. If he has no religion, isn’t his MP supposed to help him?

Of late, you have been writing a lot and I really don’t know what is your agenda. You may not be aware or too afraid to admit but you may have a problem. I suggest you consult the 4 Ps – Priest, Pastor, Psychologist, Psychiatrist. Don’t bother to see the 5th P (your Parliamentarian) – he can’t help you.

70% sheep without the pap clan S$m must wise up.

action #1 is break that cycle. meaning if not on pap S$m gravy train, and not making S$m on own talent, stop the myth of marriage is forever free ffff. there is no such thing as forever free ffff. marriage ffff in expensive pap Singapore is very costly, via kindergarten charges and HDB rental leases and increased electricity charges when oil and LPG and such used to generate electricity are all decreasing in costs.

action #2 is stop voting pap. it is not about blaming pap. it is about all the lies pap has pushed through since the adults were young and couldn’t wisen up now that they have a kid of their own. made worse by pap open leg policy so much so everything becomes expensive and everywhere becomes crowded with cheap cheaper cheaperer imported armpits so much so the local born couple cannot make ends meet and so the man kills the woman, and their child, so as to ease up on the current burden and future burdens.

some 70% sheep, the extremely stupid ones, say don’t pap government. ffff. if only CPF returns are their true 6% to 8% and not the fake 2.5% to 4%, and HDB rental is public housing priced and not private housing priced, then, the woodlands couple should be happily in France on cooking course with their precious daughter, like the pap folks are enjoying from their S$m ownself pay ownself S$m.

blame pap or not blame pap? ffff. no brainer. pap is the culprit.

if we say the State is too poor to grant decent assistance to our marginalised sgs,we are merely lying!

if we can squander away billions upon billions on ostentatious things and throw away even more billions on foreign companies and give away billions to FT-kids,i cant see why we cannot offer decent help to our own needy n poor and the jobless.

we often see our NGOs rushing to give help overseas but we cannot even see that many sgs need help?

THERE ARE NO POOR SGS IN $in-gapore???

even religious leaders seem to be oblivious to our own needy and keep asking their followers to donate to overseas charities???

………some 70% sheep, the extremely stupid ones,

I define the word STUPID for everyone here.

    from a retrenched finance Manager:
“its easy to blame the govt, but if economy is bad, then no choice.”

    from a retrenched accounts executive:
“the PAP is helping us to get jobs!!!! the foreigners are taking away our jobs!!!!!.

    from an facebook post:
“you praise the PAP, and you are MBA holder, but why are you still driving Grab?????

Stupidity coming from the 70% HAS a cure. (believe it or not)
Its suicide or murder or both.

  • Reality Check:

I do not know whether Mr Tan is directing his advice to this Woodlands murder case or not as he was using words like ‘He should have’ and ‘Could have’ or just giving out in general, the options available if one wants to seek help. If Mr Tan is referring to this particular murder case, then i think putting the child up for adoption is a bad idea. Firstly, they are not dirt poor but going through a temporary set back. Secondly, i dun think the wife would have agreed to give up the child for adoption because the problems arose due to the husband making some bad decisions. Thirdly which i think is a good reason, the presence of a child often unites quarrelling parents with one objective which is to give them reasons to want to live and provide for the child even though they may continue to quarrel and quarrel and quarrel, never ending. I am certain Hundreds of parents in Singapore and thousands all over the world quarrel every day and these husbands do not go round killing their wives and vice versa. I believe there will be a very a minor few that will end tragically as in the case of the Woodlands Murder. I suppose the best person(s) to explain why this murder took place are the psychiatists who should be able to tell whether it is just a simple uncontrolled rage or sociopath or psycopath or plain insane behaviour or what? I dun know.
