PAP’s weak leadership and poor policies will show up in weak economic times

The numbers are out and they are indeed very sobering – our non-oil domestic exports (NODEX) suffered a double-digit fall in June again, making it the fourth straight month of decline.

Going forward, it is hard to avoid a technical recession. For many companies, orders are down, economic activities have shrunk and employment numbers cannot be good while many people are bracing for retrenchment.

Singapore has all along being an export-orientated economy and our exports account for more than 3 times that of our domestic economy. External upheavals and shocks are nothing new to us. In the 1970s, Singapore experienced no less daunting challenges in the Oil Shock. With lion leaders, we overcame seemingly insurmountable challenges one after another.

What is new today is that we have a bunch of impeccably educated PAP scholars and ex-Generals helming the Singapore Ship in rough conditions. In time, their incompetency and lack of real life experience(s) will be nakedly exposed and torn to shreds.

Like what the wise Warren Buffett taught us, it is only when the tide goes out only then we will know who has been swimming naked. Anybody can helm a ship when the sea is calm but what happens when the seas are not calm?

Looking critically, our weakness is much more than merely weak external demands and unfavourable external environments. After years of so-called “restructuring” under the PAP government, what have we got to show to enable us to stand up against this current economic storms? The answer is Zero!

In fact, the costs of doing business in Singapore is very expensive and a lot of those costs are government-related costs such as GST and COE. Is this greedy PAP government is unaware about it or it chooses to continue pretend to be unaware about it? Any idiot can tell that our high costs must weaken our competitiveness and compound our problems.

The external environment is not conducive and they are, to a large extent, beyond our control and it is always easy to blame our current situation on external environment. But we must never choose the lazy and convenient way out by pushing it all to “eternal environments”.

    YES IT IS ABOUT TIME OF GOOD GREED CLEANSING – those property-horny (very strange specie to me) lot chasing property gambling in the last 12 months & previous peak waiting for mommy/daddy locked up CPF won’t see the sunrise of daylight IF THEY NEED RESCUE.

    Mom & Dad CPF-rescue package is also buried in their own stupid bet on property VAPORIZING TO ZERO – even if they own a large penthouse in Mandarin Garden – when the lease expire.

    In desperation, it is impossible to offload even a single unit because there is no buyers left and everybody knows it. It is impossible of meeting all insatiable greed looking for ever escalating imagined hallucination value and the lease expiring faster to extinction valuation.

    If mom and dad is 5-room HDB long-term renter, IT IS EVEN WORST. Don’t even THINK OF EN BLOCKING – CPF USED TO PAY FOR LONG-TERM RENTING WILL FOLLOW THE RENTER TO HIS/HER CREMATION PLACE.

    The first thing people and leaders do, in nation building, is to focus on the economy. Then when the economy goes awry, the first thing they want you to cast your eyes and attention on(ignore everything else)… is the economy.

    Hey, when you focus on the economy, you will end up with the same kind of leaders who make slaves of you while they earn or collect their millions and you possibly losing your jobs, health and sanity.

    If that’s your choice, and it apparently is then don’t complain about your highly educated PAP and ground leaders – they are the best.

    But this kind of wealth doesn’t lead to abundant life but life full of bloody miseries and consequences.

  • Demoncratic:

    Look at all your nice billions of dollars of showpiece constructions and buildings your economy brought you. Some of these business entities are like billionaire trump towers. Even your conscience has a special religious enclave for you to close your eyes,raise your hands and sway in the air. Not only that, your pigeon nests in the sky opened up the windows of wealth and rained brimstone on everyone.

    Needless to say, your covetous economic conquests has to extend beyond your shores into invading other lands, and people, to keep your showpiece towers of meritocratic talents for the people to worship.

    Singapore is demon-cratic alright. All kinds of aliens are needed to keep your shining buildings or creations raking in more money.

    But the lease is up isn’t it?

    Are you not insane, demon-cratic people?

  • Rabble-rouser:

    But S’pore export values (which is more than 3 times that of our domestic economy) were destined to bypass our domestic economy!
    Reasons why were:
    * Highly Automated processes & heavy capitalised spending on plant & equipment with minimal labour input [accounting for higher value added labour component] eg. oil & gas vertical scale integration industry & pharmaceutical manufacturing;
    * Zero tax burdens & generous tax incentives, govt grants, etc;
    * No technology transfers down to our domestic industries eg. Hard disk drive industries left S’pore with no leftover of technology know-how;
    * Expatriate management & technical staff didn’t transfer vital skill sets over to locals but kept it to themselves;
    * Elitist educational system (& streaming) where the pampered Elite Scholars migrate to govt servuce, GLCs, SWFs; the rest being half-baked & less educated thrown to the winds. MNCs import foreigners to make up for the lack of quality, enforced loyalty & easy disposal upon retrenchment & exit (Uber office staff);
    * A 2-tier economic return profile – MNCs achieved above-average returns due to favourable circumstances while locals including SMEs can only generate below average returns due to govt’s tight control over labour, finance & land;
    Plus the preferred industry targeting policies of the PAP were failing because (1) those industries are increasingly vulnerable to disruptions & sudden legislation, rule changes, etc; & (2) they can be easily replicated by other countries eg. Casino – Japan, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, etc.
    The bankrupt ideology of the PAP is very clear to see. The 10 million population target is the only way forward. The PAP have no other plans to grow S’pore except to maximise the value of their land holdings; reap profits from their heavy Infrastructural Spending through increasing population inflows & to increase their political economy using GLCs & Crony Capitalist to consolidate their political hold!
