The PAP’s Sandwich Generation

Earlier this year the term ‘Graduate Poor’ entered our lexicon, a damning indictment of the PAP’s failure to stimulate job opportunities for the young.

And now we hear of another infamous PAP invention, ‘The Sandwich Generation’. This has nothing to do with Lee Hsien Loong’s cruel quip of having to steal another man’s lunch, rather now it is a description of having to support financially your aging parents alongside raising your own young families.

This is a PAP creation through and through. It shows the utter failure of their trickle-down policies that our seniors after a life time of working are unable to support themselves adequately in retirement and have to rely on their own children who themselves are at the stage in their lives where every cent counts.

This is true of all young families, whether your income is a high $10k+ or in the $2k range, every cent is used and needed. How are young families supposed to survive and thrive when they have to pick up the failings of the state system?

The generations that have now retired are the generations that were working when the PAP glorified themselves as the ultimate economic masters, so much so that they awarded themselves salaries that are the highest salaries earned by politicians in the entire world.

And yet whilst this economic progress benefited the PAP and a small elite group, we are now seeing and paying for the real cost of these policies. Young families are being burdened and squeezed because of the failure of a fair and equal society. Our future relies on these young families and the children they can bring forth.

9Why are we burdening them and not allowing them to thrive?

  • CPF a Gigantic Scam:

CPF is a gigantic scam created by PAP. PAP has been using cpf as an investment gzmble nce platform for nepotists n favorite bootlickers of its harem. Now CPF is no longer personal n an end in itself. PAP has loaded Singaporeans by its greedy extraction of monies from children n grandchildren to amend its failure n nfi in investment by pitting its ‘fi nepotic members at millio’s $ salary n losing billions of cpf monies
Roy has struck on the big white ants zka pap nfi investment nepotic officers but forced to pay the cost by the pap rays with lhy lwl recently exposed compliant bureaucrats aka polanpa

Vote them out n make them pay for their failure n coverup to nib their evil attempt to enslave Singaporeans

THE BABY BOOMER GENERATION SUPPORTS THEIR PARENTS AND GENERATION Y – the SUNKEN GENERATION in PAPpypolitics/PAPpynomics era is struggling to keep heads above water AFTER THEIR PARENTS PAID for part of their mortgage and/or car.

Remember this – PAPpypolitics/PAPpynomics is a WEALTH EXTRACTION MACHINE from HDB to CPF to healthcare – whilst thoroughly screwed up the economy for the last 2 decades at least.

NOW BABY BOOMERS AND SUNKEN GENERATION ARE BOTH TRAPPED STRUGGLING ECONOMICALLY and the future terrifying.

    @Lim Tean
Yes PAP and LKY created the sandwich generation. But who gave them the blank cheque for its creation.
The answer lies with the older generation voters. And at present the 70% is still signing this blank cheque.
Really hope all of them wise up this coming GE. I really want to see you in Parliament. Better still be the minister (of LAW)

  • Harder Truths:

“Why are we burdening them and not allowing them to thrive?”

Because the locals do not matter. We can be replaced easily and without much effort. There is always someone faster, cheaper, smarter or more cunning to do the job than an $G local.

If $G locals have to put up with families and parents what does it cost the government? Nothing. If they take care of this problem then they lose money unnecessarily.

Plus – they know very well that besides the 30% the rest have NO BALLS to change anything.

‘Graduate Poor’, ‘The Sandwich Generation’, ‘having to steal another man’s lunch’ – All these terms points to a damning indictment of the PAP’s failure to not only provide a “Swiss Standard of Living” as promised but to a rapid decline in societal living standards while they padded theirs. The powers-to-be then have the audacity to ask people to give up their dreams & to “suck it up”. And compounding this, S’pore have a majority core of RETARD VOTERS who continually voted for the Status Quo for fear of upsetting the Apple cart. But in reality, the Apples were either stored away by the political elites (for their own consumption) or were already eaten!
The only Generation which were fortunate enough but also were damn silly were the Merdeka cohorts! Like a surfer managing to catch a big wave (from Winsemius economic doctrine, to Cold War political alignments to Reaganism [Start of Neoliberialism Economics ie. Dawn of Globalisation & Free Trade]). But many failed to get off the biggest wave only to be thrown & crashed onto the reefs below (circa 1998 ACC).
And it was prior (to ACC) to the time where the Merdeka Generation were riding high – having good office jobs, wearing smartly pressed shirts/branded tie, sporting MontBlanc pen, Cartier cufflinks & tie pin, Rolex watch, etc. I was around Raffles Place around lunchtime when I spotted J.B. Jeyaretnam & some WP supporters setting up a stall there to sell his books & to meet people. I was intrigued but chose to keep a distance observing the scene. As I noticed that there were some plainclothed ISD officers lingering nearby. All the time, I noticed many smartly dressed executive avoiding JBJ out of fear or irrelevance (Life already so good, why bother with JBJ & his democratic values)
I then asked myself a question – why is the PAP (LKY) being so hard on JBJ? JBJ wasn’t a real political threat; wasn’t a Chinese; his political abstract of Western democratic values were alien to the majority of voters who were more interested in bread-&-butter issues. Those questions kept me awake at night.
The answer came during the 1998 ACC. SES (now SGX) was dropping hundred of points every day. One remisier quipped that in a week’s time, the STI would be zero. I remember both LKY & LHL making motherhood statements about good financial governance in media statements. The next day, Mahathir closed CLOB leading to many S’poreans losing their life savings. Long story short, it was Donald Tsang (HK) & Mahathir (M’sia) whose different actions stopped the terrible pressures on Asia. If not for them, much of Asia would have been under IMF control.

Wait a minute Tean, you said the PAP glorified themselves with sky high salaries? Now, we of the so-called Merdeka Generation remember clearly how PAP founding chairman Dr. Toh remonstrated with LKY since the late 70′s about the non-transparent management of CPF funds, and I think all the excellent old guards were being shipped out in the name of party renewal in the 80s by LKY for his super-salaried non-corruptible 2G band politicians thereon. And you could say the honorable Mr. Ong Teng Cheng was inheritor of the noble aspiration of the pioneer natural aristocrats; we discovered that when he became elected President of Singapore, his “noblesse oblige” was genuine.

  • Using future gen money:

The people are using future gen money to retire.
    How so?

    1. The eldest cohort now has generally little or no cpf, no insurance, no job, no money for very expensive medical services.
So, where does the money come from?
    Their children.

    2. After spending on their parents, they have Less for themselves to retire.

    3. Overpriced flats : how do they generally pay for the flat? Using what source of money? Their Retirement funds.
They already unable to meet the retirement sum, now spend this retirement fund on overpriced flat that depreciates to zero eventually. Unless they die before the zero.

So, the system seems to work, using future generation money.

  • Haigen-Diaz:

In the Worldwide Cost of Living 2018 survey of the Economic Intelligence Unit, Singapore was ranked the most expensive city in the world to live in for the fifth year in a row. The decadent lifestyles shown in the recent movie ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ are not necessarily distant from the reality. In this small cosmopolitan town, fast cars and flashy lifestyles now abound. The contrast is jarring, juxtaposed with pictures of elderly Singaporean cardboard collectors struggling to satisfy ends.

These structural circumstances ultimately perpetuate divisions of class. Singaporeans living in public housing, for instance, have fewer than one friend living in personal accommodation on average. Additionally, in non-elite schools, those attending elite schools tend to have fewer friends, and vice versa. The reason that this happens might lie in the meritocracy principle itself. They’re considered to have worked hard if one succeeds. It is presumed, on the other hand, that if one fails, it is due to absence of effort.

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development(OECD)study shows that the playing field is not as high as we want to believe. The study, entitled Equity in Education: Breaking Down Barriers to Social Mobility, says that 46% of poor Singapore pupils attended “disadvantaged colleges” in 2015, up from 41% in 2009. Disadvantaged schools are described as those that bring 25% of the student population to the bottom, and poorer learners in those schools face the disadvantage of not getting access to the finest resources.

This attitude applies to the management of Singapore. Ministers tend to be selected from a comparatively tiny pool of those ‘deemed’ the ‘crop’s cream’, and their wages are among the world’s highest if not highest. The million-dollar salaries of ministers and how motivations for public service are now associated with the private sector’s profit motive is now untenable since our economy maxed-out eons ago.

The social fabric of Singapore risks becoming more tenuous if current inequality continues to reinforce social stratification. Our ‘so-called’ meritocracy may has been a main tenet of Singapore society, but it may be time to tackle inequality to a higher extent than before in our present state of the economy.

As an old person who has heard many things in those days it was rumoured that some of the old guard were silenced from speaking up or resisting the will of the old man.

I believe it was true that many left upset when they saw what the system was turning into.

I blame the greedy people of that era for their selfishness. If they end up old folks homes or work in foodcourts or gay nightclubs – so much the batter.

The deliberate exorbitant cost increase since the last 2 GE to actively segregating the haves and the have nots within the population has back fired on the Papies BIG Time (obviously, raking more $ along the way). Whoever advise them of such strategy to garner majority votes from the middle to the high net worth is infact just theories, and wouldn’t work in the real world due to too many uncertainties within the global dynamic economies. The even bigger machine like the Democrats / Tories / EU Parliament has failed miserably, I wonder with the slightest intelligence makes them think such route would even work ?

To peddle-back such blatant doings now is near impossible without hurting either sides of the have and the have nots. I guess the Papies has just planted themselves right in the middle, between the devil and the deep blue sea.

If they continue to listen to the usual alluring oratories from the same imbecile intellects, I am sure their fate are sealed. Changes is HARD and Painful within the ranks, but its an ineluctable path to say the least to prevent an anarchy from within (another word implosion).

Or is it a rant for the sake of ranting?

He is merely putting across what I have said earlier in this thread,

oxygen: Remember this – PAPpypolitics/PAPpynomics is a WEALTH EXTRACTION MACHINE from HDB to CPF to healthcare – whilst thoroughly screwed up the economy for the last 2 decades at least.

NOW BABY BOOMERS AND SUNKEN GENERATION ARE BOTH TRAPPED STRUGGLING ECONOMICALLY and the future terrifying.

Some of PAPpynomic policies are ridiculous of economic logic and UNSUSTAINABLE, likely to collapse on its own weight EVEN WITHOUT LIM TEAN’S CRITIQUES.

Here is one – the use of to fund otherwise unaffordable housing – instead of leaving it in retirement saving funds – is lunatic politic and economy.

Imagine U bought a condo for $1.5 million at peak funded out of bank borrowings of $1 million and CPF $500K. In distress sale of impending bankruptcy otherwise, U sold for $1.2 million. After settlement with your lender, your residual is $200K before transaction costs.

Less than $200K of your invested CPF is now your CPF savings, how can you blame Lim Tean or retiree for this?

Jman: Hold the oldies accountable for making a nuisance of themselves by not funding their golden years?

The older generation got BBQed, the greenhorn goondus below 40s yet haven’t baptised of defeat in the bonfire of CPF-funded housing gambling are all part of a long Q at the abattoir.

You contended to watch and amuse?
