Is there a minority uprising against Chinese majoritarianism?

You may not see this in the main stream media, especially the Straits Times which is understandable. But the social media is deluged with angry minority dissenting voices against apparent Chinese majoritarianism. It is interesting to examine why this sensitive political issue is being ventilated openly in the public now? For a long time since PAP came into power under the leadership of Lee Kuan Yew in 1959 this issue had been latent because PAP was so powerful that it would have been utterly insane for anyone to voice open dissent. But the minority now believes that the world is changing in their favour and it would be a matter of great regret if they did not take this opportunity to draw local and international attention to this grievance. So you now witness this uproarious dissent from the minority.

The PAP leaders could not have been so oblivious to this latent political issue with their blatant sinocised policy that they could not see the danger. One activist asked a pertinent question on Malay loyalty which Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew was particularly concerned with which restricted the recruitment of Malays into the Army and other sensitive jobs.He asked what would the loyalty of Singapore Chinese be in the event of a war with China. This may be hypothetical but many people would like to know the answer. The PAP cannot deny that there are considerable number of Pro-China Chinese in Singapore. If a war breaks out with China would they be put in a concentration camp like what the Americans did to the Japanese Americans in the last war with Japan? This is unimaginable but fortunately it is a hypothesis but you cannot prevent people from having such awful thoughts.

It is ironical that this delicate task falls on the shoulder of Minister K Shanmugam to tackle. Being a member of the minority he finds himself in an invidious and precarious position where he has to exercise extreme care and skill to ensure that he is not seen to be bias against the minority. Any wrong move on his part may result disastrously in his being branded a renegade to the minority cause. The issue is an intractable problem which the PAP can only ignore in their own peril. But it would be suicidal to allow the matter to fester.

Former PM Lee Kuan Yew may have been a genius but he was not infallible.

    @ Yoong Siew Wah:
You’re a product of the past & it clearly shows in your thinking. The world has changed yet you’re still thinking in terms of national boundaries (Inside-the-box thinking) when you wrote your article. We’re in a Globalised world today!
The concept of Nationalism is clearly dissipating. People (ie. those who have wealth, skillsets & human capital) these days are fairly mobile & transient because of Globalisation. As a result, they’re less inclined to be nationalistic but more calculative about the political eco-mechanism that they’re in. And they will not hesitate to move, migrate & shift to a different place if they think the current country they’re in doesn’t work to their benefit. The concept of Patriotism, Nationalism & the State were long dead (for upper 10%-20% percentile). For them, Capital & Wealth is what they care about because they probably owned 80% to 90% of wealth in the economy.
Politics are failing because politicians don’t understand or are in denial because they rather not know than to know. And their laws, legislations, acts they passed only affect the immobile (70%-80%, not the mobile set. And politicians are immune to any disruptions because the nature of their job shield them from accountability. Politicians suffer little collateral damage for their actions!
The HK protest is an example of what I’ve just written. The masses (probably 70%-80%) who protest bitterly or support the protest have nothing to lose whereas the ones who have everything to lose are the 10%-20% whose wealth are tied to the HK Stockmarkets &/or property values (suffering huge collateral damage).
In the aftermath of the HK protest, it will be those “10%-20% whose wealth are tied to the HK Stockmarkets &/or property values” who would leave HK. The Protesters will still remain behind because they’re immobile or can’t leave (ie. no capital nor qualifications). People who can just get up & go.
S’pore is well ahead of HK in that regard. In S’pore, because there is no possibility for dissidence due to the political economy & tight controls, there is insidious brain-drain & outflows.

S’pore govt doesn’t dare published the Statistics ie. the numbers of renounced S’pore citizenships; numbers of S’poreans living overseas, etc. The numbers are substantial. If one looks at the SGX, the capitalisation values had fallen by half in a decade.
The S’pore property market values look impressive by comparison but bear in mind that probably 80%-90% of S’pore properties bought are financed using housing mortgage loans. A huge number of S’pore properties theoretically are “owned” by financial institutions. This is not “wealth” but financial obligations owed by purchasers to the financial institutions partly offsetted by marginal equity put in by purchasers. And much of property values are horrendously overinflated by the developers price cartel. If you noticed carefully, most of this financing liquidity were provided by foreign capital providers & wealthy foreign individuals to the S’pore capital markets & banking system. Just look at S’pore’s External Debt numbers!
Yet S’pore property value multiplier effect pales in comparison to HK’s. HK property prices went up by more than 3x to S’pore’s property prices. Add in their buoyant HKSE which attracted more IPOs & more monies, HK wealth generation was considerably more significant than S’pore’s.
Yet in terms of GDP per capita statistics, S’pore outperform HK? If we were to look at this in a very critical eye, the S’pore GDP metrics were all “Lies, Fantasy & Falsehoods”.
The big proportion of the foreign legions of workers were excluded from “per capita” (labour productivity were already near zero, if “real numbers” were included, could it be negative productivity?); Total GDP were boosted via building of White Elephants, escalating price inflation & recurring Infrastructural Spending. These made S’pore GDP per capita more impressive than HK’s. But is it?

QUOTE: “Former PM Lee Kuan Yew may have been a genius but he was not infallible.”
What genius was LKY? S’pore use of GDP numbers to crow about their Economic Success is fake. HK achieved much more without resorting to increasing population numbers, without wage suppression yet the real concept of wealth is revealed in their buoyant HKSE Stockmarket (vs SGX); in their 3x HK property values (compared to S’pore’s), etc. Even their HK uber rich easily outmuscled our S’porean uber rich class.
S’poreans have been fooled & fooled again time after time.

  • This is sensitive:

As the Indian population (local + immigrants) increases, the Indian “noises” increase too. They generally has pride in themselves, has big ego and they love to dominate others especially the northern, fairer skin. Due to their big mouth gens, they love to complain (apart from bragging) even on occasions they are the worst lots. To deal with it, limit the foreign Indian intake and ensure they abide by the local laws and punish them when they cross the legal line (no fear to the CECA). Also, find a way to minimise recruit own kind by their hiring managers as once their numbers get big it is hard to control them within the organisation and they will turn whole company into their own kind.

I am sorry to say (which may provoke other races) Singapore needs to maintain Chinese majority to ensure high population of hard working and good work ethnic population.

China Chinese not same as SG Chinese. Even their very own “brothers and sisters” across the strait and the lake, tried so hard to stay far far away from them.

And you want little Red Dot people to be identify with red Big Continent people?

It is actually the rise of minority race in SG that you now see and hear more of their “worries” and this is a good thing.

  • Save your breath:

Some China haters try instigate the hatred towards mainland Chinese. Singaporean Chinese are afterall Chinese, they will feel closer to China where their ancestors come from especially when China is rising bringing great pride to them. Also, China entertainment is catching up with HK and Taiwan and it has attracted more and more Singaporean – which will bring them closer to China.

  • Please lah! Save your breath:

How can English educated, English speaking SG Chinese instigate anything towards China indoctrinated mainland Chinese?

Should go ask the Chinese speaking Taiwanese, and Chinese educated Hong Kong people this question.

And what kind of “China entertainment” is attracting more and more Singaporean? Where? which part of Singapore?

  • At the root of it all:

I know no safe depository of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves ; and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them, but to inform their discretion by education. This is the true corrective of abuses of constitutional power.

You actually do not understand many things, everything about Chinese and China. What you know is open your mouth spilling all anti chinese/China words.

You don’t watch channel 8 and U right? Nowadays they are substantial China TV shows which Singaporean Chinese follow.

HK and Taiwan-China relations are political ones – you can’t say which side is absolutely right or wrong bcos its too complex.
