Extremely expensive food at social enterprise hawkers

The pricing of social enterprise hawkers are getting too ridiculous! How is a $6/$7 plate of Nasi Briyani a value meal? It is so expensive for normal people like us! Do the social enterprise think the neighbourhood aunties and uncles drive Ferraris and BMs? How can they call themselves a social enterprise with prices like this?

That’s not all. A while ago, they had a $2.80 meal, but this is gone, as seen from the new $4.50 taped over the sign. If I’m not wrong, every social enterprise hawker is required to provide a cheap option. Can this Indian stall do this? If you tell me a basic meal of $2.80 is a cheap meal, I can understand. But if their cheap option is going to be 1 piece of Kosing prata, I am really disappointed with the government.

Please publish this so that Singaporeans can see the true face of these social enterprise, and if any other stalls are following suit, please also write in to share your grievances. Thank you.

An angry local consumer.

One of the best solution is to stop all enterprise from operating hawker centres. Rent out hawker stall only to Singaporean individuals at love and flat rental rates

THAT IS WHY THEY ARE ENCOURAGING retirees past 67 to return to the workforce to earn petty wages paying for escalating runaway food prices and health care aggravated by foreign population influx.

  • Rabble-rouser:

Era of good & cheap hawker food was already over after the PAP govt started the “open-leg” immigration policy which boosted population numbers by over 40% from 2004 to 2011.

They only slowed it down after their setback in the 2011 GE when they lost a GRC. Also, the proliferation of REITs & Property Vehicles in the SGX & their increasing influence over S’pore’s property landscape propelled rentals upwards.

The REITs manager’s job was to push rentals upwards to as high as tenants could bear. Also, they began to convert empty spaces for kiosk & booth rentals; large open indoor spaces for events management & sales events; & the food court/kopi-tiam operator business concept began to take hold.

These operators dared to bid high to procure food court spaces from Mall REITs operators; in turn they charged high stall rentals to the cooked food sellers &/or operators. As stall rentals goes up, food quality goes down, food portion become smaller & smaller, etc. And prices began to go up exponentially.

One way to bring down hawker food prices down is to stop eating out so much. Let the market take care of adjusting prices downwards. If possible, pack your own lunch at home ,& bring it to work; bring a Themos flask or 3-in-1 tea or coffee satchets to make your own hot drink. Avoid buying take away food, they always costs too much! In the end, even social enterprises can’t hope to bring down the high cost of hawker food, when it is the rentals & the immense greed behind it all. Boycott the mechanism of else suck it all up & don’t complain!

  • $15 Nasi Briyani:

When the GST hikes to 9% and then to 15%….the Nasi Briyani will be $15.

Because GST is multiple Effect tax…… from toilet cleaners, washing powers, utensils cleanings, salaries all hikes and priced onto that plate of Nasi Briyani.

So I suggest you know how and when to use the center finger… coming near.

So when someone tells you “Oh only a small percentage…” you know when to center finger usage.

It is obviously this government’s central policy to push costs and prices up.

The ruling wealthy own properties and businesses. They aim for higher rentals and prices to get more profits. The higher the prices, the more their salary and bonuses and wealth.

Please stop looking to this government to help lower prices. It is like asking a torturer to help relieve your pain. The more pain you have, the happier the torturer.

I live near Bukit timah hawker center where $80 bowl of noodles also available. But I’m quite tired of the food there so I tend to shop around. Sometimes, I am surprised that there are cheap stuff everywhere. Like the kway chap at Jalan Batu Hawker center which costs $2.50 upwards. Of course portion is smaller but the variety of inards and other ingredients is there. The bowl of kueh decent portion for the price. I hope they don’t close down.

There’s also the dumpling noodles very kiu. $4 and up. Michelin rated. Very good.

  • never voted pap:

if government is bad, such as pap, stop voting the baddies, such as pap.

if the food is too expensive, stop paying good S$ for the bad.

of course, like everything in pap Singapore, there is a choice.

option one is to continue voting the bad pap government and buying the expensive food and at the same time kpkb.

the other option is to stop voting the bad pap government and stop buying the expensive food and at the same time continue to kpkb so that 70% sheep wakes up.

we always practice the other option. in fact we have never voted pap. we do once in a while got tricked by expensive food. but one time only. then we kpkb to wake up the others about the expensive food.

of course if we are on pap S$m gravy train, you won’t hear from us, since we are too busy counting the zeros in our bank accounts and CPF statements to care about 70% sheep. since we aren’t on pap S$m gravy train, and jobless, we no end tell 70% sheep to wake up so that we suffer less under New Government. as everyone knows, under pap government, life can only become bad, worse and worst.

Then you can go to IMH canteen — near Sengkang liao. Their briyani is $4 for chicken version. Unfortunately only for weekday breakfast or early lunches — usu sold out by 1pm.

“Generally, Nasi bryani always more ex than Chinese economy rice. Don’t know why.”

If you think like a biz-man you will know why — sales turnover much much lower than fancai, plus basmati rice is much more expensive than usual thai rice.

Cheng San Market there , a shop house shop doing photostat service has just jacked up its price by at least 30% as I found out.
The boss say the costs have gone up but never been able to justify why 30%. It cannot be their costs have gone up so much. If the cost went up 10% then they are profiteering by 20%.

I have decided to boycott it.
There is only one Photocopy shop there.

I suspect profiteering. The GST home have not even come yet. What will they do after that?
