Government should help those who have fallen on bad times

I will like to share some bad experience from a friend that has fallen on bad time and seeked help from social assistance (MSF). He had some problems with soccer gambling debt and being a responsible person, he decided to clean up his act. Unfortunately, he did not have any previous full-time job experience besides his stint as a storeman in army. He had been looking for jobs for months and was recommended a job at a local supermarket. However, as he was unable to adapt to the working hours and low pay, and quit his job within a week. The social assistance staff assigned to his case actually chided him after that, and furious from the discussion, he stormed out of the room. The staff did not understand that as he was displaced from the job market for a long time, he was unable to adjust to the working tempo and found his boss to be micro-managing. His job did not accord him the flexibility and freedom to use his phone while working, and he found the environment restrictive. The social worker only knew he quit his job without informing his superior, but she did not realise he was on bad terms with his manager.

This is a ridiculous example of how insensitive the social service workers are. Unfortunately, his trouble did not end here. Another job was recommended to him, this time a hawker center stall assistant, Despite informing the staff that he was uninterested in this line of work, it was still recommended to him. Are there no better jobs for him? Again, the rigidity of the organisation shows itself in dealing with clients. He repeatedly told the social worker he did not like working long hours in a hot environment, and found the pay to be too low. The staff assured him that the pay will rise if he picks up experience and culinary skills, but he retorted that he was uninterested in this career. However, he still gave the job a shot to prove his sincerity. A few days later, the boss accused him of being lazy and bad service attitude, and he lashed out at his boss, and left his job again. Instead of empathising with him, the social worker was not on his side again! He made more sarcastic remarks implying that he was being picky, repeating the same mantra about how the job market is bad. But that’s not his problem! It should be the social workers’ problem to deal with, and find him a decent job he can perform well in, instead of explaining their problems to him and expecting him to do all the hard work!

The final straw came when the social worker informed him that the financial assistance he had been receiving will be ending. Even though he had not secured a job for himself, the social worker was cruel enough to suggest that other more needy candidates need the financial assistance more than him. My friend has served his NS dutifully and served his country proudly, and it is sad that he is being abandoned in his time of need, while foreigners enjoy good jobs.

I am really disappointed that government servants do not care more about vulnerable Singaporeans with less education like my friend. The government should focus more on helping the unemployed, especially long-term employed Singaporeans, and try to assign jobs they are interested in, so they do not quit after a while.

A disappointed Singaporean

your friend should take a look at the elderly working under a harsh environment at hawker centres, walking around collecting cans and cardboards and various odd jobs to stay ALIVE…these are the ONES that need HELP without even asking…

Sorry, bro, your friend does not NEED help he needs a psychiatrist though I agree with you that these people at MSF are insensitive…had the MISFORTUNE to meet up with them when helping an 85-year-old man to seek assistance…he finally got assistance… @ $250 per month after a thorough investigation that excludes counting his backside hair

At least he kena non-combat in NS. Even more tulan if you kena infantry or some shitty combat vocation, and now have to go thru the same experience as him.

Now you know why S’pore Pools doing a roaring business! Hahahaha!!!

Actually the best deal will be getting MSF, WDA, SSG, WSG, PA, CDC, e2i, and other similar stat boards and govt agencies to provide simple admin jobs.

Don’t have to be high pay, but at least simple admin tasks in aircon office for longterm jobless to ease back into working life.

Then if they want or need more income, they can learn new or extra skills & try for better paying jobs outside.

  • The Old Art:

Brain-Washing or Prompting the minds to agree and stand in solidarity with the MIWs that some of them do not deserves to be helped and question why is the MIW helping by using the Art of Reverse psychology based on minute isolated cases or non existent fakes, thus gaining the readers to be in uniformity with the MIW and win their votes.

In short, Prompting thoughts by using fakes that some of them are too young to vote.

But in reality, all those are untrue and the minds are deceived by those very insincerity people that you should be very careful of in the first place.

    You see;

They don’t exempt themselves from PFORNIAMA Act for nothing.
Can we say, anyone who deviated from out national pledge “base on justice and equality” are devious wolves in sheep skin?

[But Otherwise], the beginning bad negative description of the subject [his worthiness] is totally unnecessary to convey the subject “Government should help……” Only Fool will write like this.

  • Harder Truths:

it is a fact that people who have lost their jobs or been unemployed for some time have issues fitting into a society where they are judged by the 5 C’s. No one really will understand how this feels unless they have been done in by the system.

It is not easy to beg and retain self-respect. it is even harder wondering how to survive until the next day.

The MIW system is about success and only success. If you fail then you are not good enough and deserve what you get – this is their attitude and what most $G also think – whether they tell you or not many also adopt this mentality.

The so-called social services are meant to suck money into the system – not help anyone. The idea the social services have is that there is something wrong with you – if you cannot correct your issues or behaviour then you are not worth helping.

How does someone who has been replaced by FT able to cope with being accused of being useless by other local $ingaporens?

Eventually every $G citizen will be replaced by FT since there is always someone coming here who is better than the local worker. It is already happening. Perhaps then the blame will stop.

Bro, this is typical attitude of Singaporean as if after serving NS is big f* like that.

It is like saying I had served NS so you government must listen to me.

These Singaporeans are like the Hong Kong protestors who thought they had the numbers and demand HK government listen to them.

  • Evil, Greedy And Corrupt:

Good jobs are all stolen, this is what is left even for the hardworking.
Count yourself unlucky and weak to fall into the gambling bait of greedy evil government.

They preyed on and profit from your human weakness, yet self righteously claim that you choose to be in this situation.
They have all the dictatorial power, they banned chewing gum, they could ban gambling as well but they didn’t because allowing gambling brings lot’s of money to them.

Besides the casinos, the totalisator board, some pigs have difficulty pronouncing so they shortened it to the catchy Tote board, has been racking in tons of money for decades, yet only a token sum is circulated back to the community, where did the majority of the profits go to??
