Spend $100 billion to deal with climate change?

I agree that we need to deal with climate change. I am not sure if we need to spend $100 billion to achieve this goal.

What I know is that we have another goal that is more urgent and more immediate. We need to bring down our cost of living. We can bring it down by more than 7%, if we abolish our GST immediately.

We are facing economic challenges due to the global recession and the trade wars. By giving additional spending power to the people, we can stimulate the local economy, so that the people who lose their jobs can find alternative work to make a living.

This is the most pressing need. It takes $10 billion a year. But, we do not need to increase the reserves by $10 billion a year from the land sale. It can be diverted to reduce the cost of living.

We will need to build dykes to stop the flooding of our low lying areas. It does not cost much in the short term. It will take a long time for the sea level to rise a few centimeters. We can do it gradually.

Maybe, the whole project will not take $100 billion. Maybe it will take $5 or $10 million over the next 20 years. We can afford it.

Let us focus on the more urgent and more immediate problem, while still pay attention to the longer term challenge.

“Golden Chain” Tan is a wave rider – taking an opportunity to surf whatever waves that the MSM & S’pore politics has churned up for him. Like PM LHL talking about cashless payment system that he saw in China & wants to emulate for S’pore, Too Little, Too Late!

Truth be told is that it is way too late talking about Climate Change now. There is already Climate Change happening! The mindset that is required to confront Climate Change is not going to happen for S’pore. Mark my words!

The Global weather pattern is already changing! Droughts, floods & extreme global temperatures are already happening now as we speak! And at the forefront, global food production is being affected!

Melting polar ice caps will change the geography of low-laying areas & force mass migration of people. But whose going to feed them?

Inflationary pressures are already evident for food prices as I write. And PAP’s 10 million population target – if you want to believe in it, is laughable!

Rich countries are already refusing accept more refugees! In view of the already incoming climate change factor, many countries had already discarded their population growth policies into the waste bin & enacted an exclusionary policy driving out their deplorables & undesirables; revoking visas, deportation & refusing outright entry. Border security measures are being heighten & tightened everywhere.

Yet S’poreans are still bullish on S’pore properties. The HK political riots have sparked an euphoric crowds beelining to recent S’pore new launches, a number of them booking multiple units hoping to “888″ all the way. I guessed S’pore’s open door foreigner policy good for the property market, Eh?

When the cost of food is going to be so prohibitive in S’pore, you would think the PAP will be able to sustain 10 million when S’pore don’t even have 1% primary food production – as S’pore relies on 100% food importation!

  • The Other Hard Truths:

The stark truth that is staring at the faces of Singaporeans is the subtle message that Lee Hsien Loong has just stumbled upon yet another excuse for imposing a new tax. Yet how many of us have been able to see through this thinly-veiled disguise?

By all means build defensive structures…but the cost of these should come from the trillions of excess dollars which the PAP claims to have in the reserves.

That infilial one is desperately strumming every notes to find the Right note but somehow every note, even scare note, give money note, is the wrong note with the public… otherwise GE immediately liao. So it will happen at the very end of this term, because NOTHING good to show. No one is buying the shits anymore.

Just look at the thumbs down in the Youtube he received. Last time where got people dare to thumb down him. Now, apparently, people get so tired of him, don’t care liao.

Regarding rising sea water level. It depends on where you measure the level. The reclaimed land area is known to sink at a rate, though marginal but of concern long long time story. I thought everyone should know or I leegyleegy info? Or I should say new soil will subside not sink. Just don’t ask me pay for the repair works for someone else properties. Win you take and keep, lose we pay…. KNN. Reclaim sell, we pay top up?

Climate Change….. bloody old story found new life meh! Most of our areas on rock solid Singapore is 15m above sea level. So don’t bullshit bluff here bluff there. I stayed on high ground and I am not interested to patch others properties problems not my problem.

Personally, I was shocked when this ‘chief’ talked about the bursaries to local citizens in the recent rally. I thought the message should have come from OYK. Instead, he was too defensive when sponsorship of foreign scholarships was raised in Parliament. Not my 4G leader. A few speeches earlier, the same chief had the audacity to ask citizens to tighten their belts with $3 meals while his poor performing cabinet continue to draw huge salaries.

The way I view the coming election, is if one votes for members from this chief, one is essentially telling the whole world he is either dumb or has a seared conscience.

In the early days, they delayed the withdrawals claiming that many old men squandered their cpf along the Batam streets on women/ prostitutes. If you ask them how many old men and what amounts, they cannot tell you. But I can tell you that these amounts are peanuts compared to our sovereign investments losses. They want you to get the news from local mainstream media, yet they are not transparent.
You have to be dumb if you don’t see this.

You are aware that many investments using our cpf have gone sour EVEN before the worsening US-China relations. You are aware that if cpf contributions are stopped today, it is impossible for everyone to withdraw their original amounts plus the promised interests. There is no way for them to patch this hole unless you keep buying into their gimmicks for them to draw billions for projects they claimed.

You are aware that when the HDB leases are ending, depreciating property values are inevitable. HSK says that there is absolutely some value left in properties. But he cannot prove his case with significant real transactions that his ballpark amounts give you good assurance there is another 30-40 years of roof on your head. They have made themselves liars in their own right, claiming that the HDB values will never go down. So vote for them if you cannot hold your heads high.

You are aware that many citizens are not insulated from high costs of living, and this is the number 1 (or 2) reason our TFR is ranked the bottom 3 if not last in the world. Even a minister will have a hard time supporting his in-laws if he earns $500k or less. If you are in that same GRC that voted for him, where is your conscience ?

You are either a citizen with children or have seen local families with children. The numbers of these children are going to face an irreversible decline. Thanks to you if you voted for this ‘chief’ and his party. They keep feeding you with motherhood statements on how serious they are with TFR. Actually, every day goes on as usual for them without a drastic course of direction to change the outcome for the nation’s survival and growth.

First thing is who created all those problems? We have to vote capable people like LT, KJ, TCB, CSJ besides WP into parliament for a good debate. Current MIWs are all yes men and women only taking care of their own bank account and lifestyles from the very unfortunate Singaporeans. Locals lost their jobs to fake degrees holders. It is no secret the Indian Chiefs take this good opportunity created by PAP to kick out locals and replace them with all Indians from his village. But PAP continues to bring in more FTs. Vote wisely. Think for our children’s future and our own living journey.

  • Lost his way, GOH where?:

When the spendthrift pap says we have to spend billions to deal with climate change or to build Jewel Changi, or Gardens By The Bay, etc. there weren’t any bark from the white camp.

However, when SDP suggested giving free pre-school education to our sg children, haha, even their white poodles and chihuahua became aggressive and made the loudest noise. “Where is the money going to come from?”

Don’t need to wait for climate change to sink sg. The brainwashed and dumb pap supporters will sink sg with their votes sooner than the climate change.

The $100 bilion is not to deal with climate change, it is for dealing with the effect of climate change. This $100 billion is for building infrastructure for protection only.

People, please note, to deal with climate change, it cannot depend on 6 million Singaporeans and taxes imposed by the PAP govt, it depends on the whole 7 billion people on planet earth.

To me, climate change is only a very good excuse for this PAP to increase taxes. One of the causes of climate change is the building of unnecessary structures, with the highest carbon footprint, which PAP is famous for.

So be prepared for taxes increases for this $100 billion. As for building of dykes or whatever you won’t be able to see them.

Think about it, we know there are steps before you enter into a MTR stations, these are meant to prevent flood water from entering into the stations. This is only meant for the short duration of flooding. What if the flooding was due to sea water level rising, which would be permanent? We would be using boats to reach the MTR stations?

Why PM LHL did not use the example of pedestrian bridges. These would be bridges for people to cross the roads when they turn into rivers?!

The more “thumbs down” or negatives I get, the happier I’ve become. It’s not about popularity!

There’s a lot of raw nerves I hammered because S’poreans, by & large, don’t want to hear negativity. They don’t like what I write!

They want to believe that the economy is in a much better shape than it is. Many still hope that the property market will hold because PAP’s population S’pore target of 10 million would be achieved. Yes & No! Because at best, it would be still a huge gamble placing a long-term bet using huge capital resources & humongous debts behind it. But the odds are against it!

S’pore is already a matured economy with an ageing demographics profile which is terribly disadvantageous for unbridled economic growth. The population growth policy will create a lot of imbalances which will be harder to solve the further we go along this path.

S’pore’s brilliant & world-class infrastructure is kept pristine by using 3rd world labour wages. S’pore is using the same Building model as Dubai who have oil & gas reserves behind them. But S’pore doesn’t have such advantages as Dubai. The cost of maintaining such structures are prohibitive! And why our CPF is getting longer to access after retirement.

S’pore should have aimed for optimal numbers, price stability & less congested housing. All points to gradual lowering of population numbers, not population expansion. The release of CPF funds to seniors would have help the consumption factor.

Even as S’pore expands using population growth, the slack factor is evident & apparently growing (but not obvious to an undiscerning eye). PAP economic policy of increasing inputs; infrastructure spending to show GDP growth is largely illusionary. And there is no clear labour productivity gains, investment return eco-system is exceptionally low & S’pore’s external debt is growing.

Local underemployment is high (jobs goes to foreigners); there is a huge slack in rental housing (looming oversupply); older & less prominent shopping malls are facing permanent vacant spaces (less disposable income, tightness in spending, online retail threat). Even relatively recent launches, many units are still dark at night indicating the developers or holders are struggling to sell to actual users of housing. Perma-Bulls of property market might disagree with me!

5 or 10 million dollars ONLY to build sea walls to protect Singapore from rising sea levels????!!!! Hello tkl, WHY are you so hellbent on proving to everyone just how STUPID & IGNORANT you really are????!!!! 5 or 10 million dollars ONLY????!!!! Try 5 or 10 BILLION dollars!!!! Why?! Because not only do you need to build a big beautiful wall around the whole island, you’ll need to dam up ALL the rivers that open up into the sea to prevent them being ingress points for seawater. Needless to say, you’ll ALSO need giant pumps to drain off excess water during severe storms!

Oh, and let’s not forget, our ports will also have to undergo extensive modifications so that seawater cannot enter from the docks. And what about the Causeway? It’s low-lying, so it to has to be demolished, walled up and a new bridge constructed to connect Singapore to JB!

Really tkl, maybe you should just go eat up all your undigested solid food wastes instead of always coming here to spew them everywhere!!##

It’s called CLIMATE CHANGE! THE CLIMATE IS ALWAYS CHANGING! It is television that gives the impression that droughts, floods, extreme global temperatures
are occurring more often than usual. Whenever there is flooding in Bangladash, or earth quake in Sumatra, people in New York see it live on their TV.
