Plans to secure Singapore’s future?

During the National Day Rally, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong outlined plans on education, retirement age and rising sea levels due to climate change at the National Day Rally. It was a nothing speech about “nothing that really matters today”. Pure distraction.

It’s a pre-general election speech and they are most certainly keeping their powder dry for the GE. He wanted to keep their cards close to his chest by revealing essentially nothing that really mattered.

It was deliberately not about the burning issues of the day – elderly distress and the need to house and care for our stricken elderly, nothing about lowering the cost of business or living or creating more jobs or addressing healthcare concerns, HDB concerns, etc.

Better pre-school education for our kids, low income students getting school fee discounts and bursaries is a good thing but in the larger scheme of things these children need to do well in school to get into university to take advantage of reduced fees and bursaries. They are just not doing well enough to qualify. What’s the point of a bursary if you cannot qualify for university in the first place? Empty promises.

Keeping people employed longer is good for those who do not want to retire and carry on working but dismal for those who have insufficient savings and are forced to work till they die. Is this the Singapore future we want?

Affordability is one part of the story. What’s the use of a bursary if you can’t qualify for university in the first place? Most in top schools come from upper or middle income families. Fundamentally, the lower income are not doing as well in school. They are now hardly represented in top schools so how to get broad based uplift into top university courses when they are disadvantaged by a lack of funds to get tutored by top tutors into top grades? ‘Moneytocracy’ or meritocracy?

Polders or sea walls, rising sea levels, the Tanjong Pagar Greater Southern Waterfront redevelopment plans, tweaking the retirement age and CPF contributions are well and good but Singaporean’s have bigger and more immediate survival concerns.

He said nothing much about the real issues of the day except “I care about Singapore” and “we think 100 years ahead”, “we do what we say we will” which is just not true.

Who cares about your great foresight if you have failed, neglected and or refused to resolve the widening income and social inequality that plagues our very existence in Singapore today thanks to the ever increasing cost of living and the relentless indiscriminate immigration of foreign talent who inevitably break the rice bowls of ordinary citizens and otherwise threaten our social fabric?

What plans to secure our future? Where were the plans to ensure Singaporean’s earn enough and have enough savings to secure their future? Would that be in our senior citizens breaking their backs in building a sea wall? And how does the future matter to someone when you do not address the pressing issues of the day?

@Khush Chopra; don’t worry. PAP already prepare a buffet of chicken wings, with all and every way of cooking. Just see how many people take the bait (with hook and line). Oops, I mean foods.

Those people who have enjoyed the buffet must know it is not free. The bill will come later. PAP already hinted the amount would be $100 billion.

So Bon appetite, till you receive the bill.

Khush, it’s obvious we have a clown for a PM. He believes he can see 100 years into the future. Absolute bunkum!

The way the world is rapidly changing on the economic and political fronts, no one can see even 5 years ahead. That’s the simple truth.

Did anybody outside the US expect Obama to win the Presidency? Even the great LKY did not. Did anybody foresee Trump becoming President? The son of LKY and his PAP cronies were caught with their knickers down.

What about Brexit or the US-China trade war? How many saw these events coming? Did our big-brained scholars see China moving to help develop the port and infrastructure facilities in neighbouring Malaysia? And what about China’s One Belt One Road initiative?

So don’t talk about any predictions more than 5 years into the future. It’s just bollocks!

  • We plan 1000 years ahead:

Pure delusion to plan 1000 yrs ahead.
100% delusion to plan 100 yrs ahead.

In 1919, who can foresee the world today in 2019?
Who can foresee that Singapore would be given freely to Malaysia? “Sold” to Malaysia for $0 ringgit?
Who can foresee that Malaysia would throw out Singapore like a toxic piece of meat?

It is 100% delusionary to claim to plan today for 2119.
Perhaps another group of idiotic politicians will give Singapore freely to Indonesia or Malaysia again?

  • Hoseh misses more than a mile:

A worldwide survey was conducted by the UN. The only question asked was: “Would you please give your honest opinion about solutions to the food shortage in the rest of the world?” But the survey was a huge failure.

In Africa they didn’t know what “food” meant. In Eastern Europe they didn’t know what “honest” meant. In Western Europe they didn’t know what “shortage” meant. In China they didn’t know what “opinion” meant. In the Middle East they didn’t know what “solution” meant. In South America they didn’t know what “please” meant. In the USA they didn’t know what “the rest of the world” meant. And in Sinchiapor island they thought the whole world was there and walloping.

as long as 70% sheep behaves like they behaved GE2015, they ask for it.

we were away during that time. but we watched via Internet all the WP rallies and kept up with the commentaries. we thought Singapore GE2015 is it.

we rushed back to cast vote against pap. but we were sorely disappointed. 70% sheep did the unthinkable. they voted pap.

so now whenever someone says 70% sheep is hardship or 70% sheep children no headstart in preschool or 70% sheep NUS NTU SMU graduate children shake at home or drive Grab, we clap clap clap.

70% sheep asks for it. so why should we care whether they eat one meal a day or none at all. let pap clown and S$m gang rob them blind.

because they, 70% sheep, ask for it.

  • Rabble-rouser:

But there are still a hardcore majority who still votes for the PAP inspite of all that were stated here!

Try to understand their rationale & psychology behind their reasons in doing so!

One S’pore brilliant mind had identified the reason & called it “Chinese Privilege”. She says “As I explained in my post on Chinese Privilege in Singapore a few days ago, Singaporean Chinese enjoy economic, systemic and institutional privilege in Singapore in ways that function very similarly to white privilege in the United States, Europe and Australia.”
    https://medium.com/chinese-privilege/i-always-say-to-people-that-i-never-knew-i-was-a-person-of-color-until-i-started-living-in-the-cfccb4c97ae8

I found it very amusing when LKY espoused “Asian Values” especially Confucius “Deference to Authority”. He was born a Peranakan Baba, spoke no Mandarin until his mid-twenties (assume no exposure to Chinese classics, literature & Confucian philosophy, Taoism precepts, etc).

And he began Mother Tongue policy which “accidently” trigger the rise of Mandarin on par with English. In fact, Mandarin became the paramount language because no one can enter local university without good marks in Mandarin. Yet in Corporate life, in the law courts, in regular & business correspondence – the lingua used is English, never Mandarin?

Yet he harbour Western generated stuff like Maltusian beliefs (of Population control – Stop at 2 family planning policy; forced abortion, enforced sterilization schemes for lower economic strata mothers); which later lead to Eugenics schemes (Graduate match making & Graduate mothers scheme).

Long & short, the S’pore electorate voted according to the racial lines. S’pore voters choose to close ranks in order to protect & defend their so-called “Privilege”; no different from near neighbour M’sia & certainly, the compelling reason for Donald Trump’s 2016 election victory which came from disenfranchised “White” voters, White Supremacists groups & Far right groups against illegal foreigners & rampant migration policies like H-1B & H4 visas.

And the Mother tongue policy, the Meritocracy policy, the Elite School mechanism tilts the ground in favour of a certain majority race. Even the HDB racial quota mechanism favours the majority while penalises the minority seller. I’m not talking racism (making outraged racists comments) here but purely speaking on facts. And facts back up what is said here! Two-thirds of NUS Medical school Alumni came from only 3 schools (RI, Hwa Chong & ACS).

And why the PAP are still overwhelmingly Chinese Male majority when Developed Economies already had a Magaret Thatcher (UK) & Barrack Obama (US).

The question of why Tharman can’t be put forward as S’pore future PM just because he is an ethnic Indian is another example of “Chinese Privilege”. PAP talks about Meritocracy as a cornerstone of their policy – why Tharman can’t be selected based on “Merit” yet held back because of race! Are PAP talking “real” Meritocracy or “Chinese Privilege” here?

Look at the huge budget dedicated exclusively to MediaCorp’s Channel 8. The MediaCorp Channel 8 star events & selective actors/actresses very public media profile were clearly overexposed & highlighted blatantly without understanding the ludicrious nature of their doing.

Yet none of them are really true acting talents – no real Channel 8 star broke through in HK, Taiwan or China film industry. All came back with tails between their legs. Even Fann Wong’s Hollywoid stint was once-off. Her English dialogue so bad while her acting was very wooden.

In contrast, ex-Channel 5 actor, Chin Han (remember him from “Masters of the Seas”) was portrayed in many Hollywood movies – the most recent was the “Pacific Rim” sequel. In our so-called S’pore Meritocracy social status, Chin Han should be honoured with merit. But instead, we have fairly anonymous MediaCorp Channel 8 “stars” taking accolades & awards for uninteresting & unimaginative drama series produced by 3rd rate directing talents procured from directorial waste bins from HK, Taiwan & China.

Would John Woo, Ringo Lam even consider coming over to S’pore to direct a MediaCorp drama series or even a locally produced film using Channel 8 stars here in S’pore? I don’t think so!

At the end, both the PAP Meritocracy Policy & “Chinese Privilege” mechanism look very hollow & especially shallow! “Chinese Privilege” is just a Chinese votebanking mechanism & racial votebuying scheme.

PAP’s politically motivated measures all come up short & only generates mediocrity & an artificial state of “arrogance & smugness”. When in the real world, you’re not even the best but actual looking up through the a**e end of things.

In contrast, all the other medium channels look like an afterthought. Of course, the wealthier English speakers can afford Netflix, Amazon Prime & StarHub/SingTel EPL programming when one sees Channel 5′s paucity of top-notched English programs in S’pore.

If that is not called “Chinese Privilege”, what is it then?

  • Harder Truths:

    Khush Chopra

He is retiring after ensuring $G citizens have no future. There ias no point berating him – he has so much money even his sh*t is worth millions.

His and his cadre’s children live in foreign lands while those in $G can hardly afford to put a meal together while their parent work almost 24/7 just to get by. despite what the government says about eradication of poverty.

Be honest now – do you really think such people care what you and I say? Or what is right and wrong?

Then – ask yourself – is he really the one at fault? Who put him there? Him and his whole circus of clowns?

The majority of voters – the same ones who have gone though NS, or been replaced by FT, or required to drive taxis or live in old age homes or clean tables in hawker centers – vote for his type of leeder.

Then you will realise there is no hope for the highly educated natives of this sorry little island who cannot go to the toilet without a government instruction manual.

It will not be climate change that will kill us – but our own stupidity.

  • O soul, secure your afterlife:

Are you oblivious to the sufferings of birth, old age, sickness and death? There is no guarantee that you will survive past this very day! The time has come for you to develop spiritual contemplation. For, by this singular opportunity, you could attain the everlasting bliss (of Nirvāṇa). Now is not the time to sit idly; but, starting with reflection on death, you should attend to your spirit! The moments of our lives are invaluable, and the possible circumstances of death and the hereafter are beyond imagination! If you do not achieve an undaunted confidence now about your afterlife, what point is there in your being alive, O living creature?

Boh Pian, NDP speech is an annual affair, die die have to give the speech at the NDP. So many pressing issues cannot give solutions, plus the urge to increase cost.

Don’t laugh over it, $100 Billion in 10 years, equates to $10 Billion per annum, equates to roughly $ 833 Million a year !!!!
Divide that among the number of citizens !!

That is just to tackle the Climate Change !! How about the cost for operating our Civil Services, Public Assets Maintenance, Transportation, MINISTERS PAY !!!

ITS NO JOKING MATTER, A COST TSUNAMY IS ALREADY AT THE HORIZON, PLEASE PLEASE GUYS, READ BETWEEN HIS LINES, DONT TAKE IT AT THE SURFACE !!!
