Set price guidelines for many services

I am in favor of setting price guidelines for many services, e.g. health, repair work, tuition, transport, etc.

I also like these price benchmarks to be placed in a website for easy reference.

In some cases, the service providers have to abide by the guidelines, e.g. if they wish to get paid partially from government funds, as is the case with health care.

Similarly, the observance of the price guidelines is a necessary condition for getting a license to do technical or repair work.

It is not difficult to set the price guidelines by analyzing the data of the prices charged for that service.

I wish to deal with exceptions:

a) A service provider, e.g. doctor, who has special skills and wish to charge a higher price than the guidelines, should inform the customer about the deviance from the guidelines and get the customer to agree to it.

b) We also need a way to resolve disputes between the service provider and customer.  It can be handled by using a simplified adjudication process, instead of going to the law court.

The current approach is to ignore the problem and to leave to the market and the court to sort out the pricing and dispute. It is a lazy approach. We need the people in charge to find a better way to handle this matter.

Ministers, are you listening?

I did some surfing on the chinese site. Some articles here display some of the pricing. Those who know local can compare and comment.

The problem in Singapore is the price mechanism has broken down completely due to pap being in every ffffing business.

Instead of regulating the market, setting rules to guide market behaviour, pap itself breaks all bounds by being the price maker in almost all the markets.

pap makes everything much worse thereafter by being the monopoly masquerading as market choice. Look at singtel. Look at sp services. Look at ntuc taxi.

pap makes everything much worse by placing every ffffing useless time expired paper general or minister in the positions. These ffffing useless time expired pap Ljs all no market experience but since everything pap is in is bao jiak these pap Ljs just raise prices when coffer becomes empty.

In the end, 70% sheep suffers. But do we care? ffff No. 70% sheep asks for it. clap clap clap.

I think Transparency is the building block to solve all Singapore issues.

    1. They keep claiming due to energy costs increase, they hike the prices.
But profiteer can also say the same eg. A photostat services company at chengsan market raised photostat price by at least 30% citing machine rental fee hike.

But they did not show proof.
Even if machine rental price hiked , could machine rental hike have gone up by 30%? That would be a huge amount. Unlikely.

This is why we ostriches bees to demand for evidence when authorities make claims without showing evidence beyond reasonable doubt.

Once again trying to impose your marxist-socialistic bullshit on everyone tkl? Vendors should ALWAYS be free to set their own pricing because it gives clients FREE HOICE! Since socialists like you DON’T understand free choice, it’s very simple to to understand. Once you remove your heads from your own asses that is!!!! This is how it works. A baker charges premium prices for his cakes because he uses top quality premium ingredients imported from around the world. Another baker charges much cheaper for his cakes because he uses much cheaper largely locally-sourced ingredients because his target clientele is the mass market, not the top of the line. In this way, a lower income person who likes say tiramisu can afford to eat it on a regular basis from the baker who uses cheaper ingredients, whereas his boss who also likes tiramisu but finds the one from the cheaper baker substandard can buy the much costlier one from the premium bakery

Really tkl, you ALWAYS think you’re smarter than anyone else. You always claim to be an economics expert, and yet you CANNOT even UNDERSTAND something THIS BASIC????!!!! Do you know WHAT government regulation of the prices of everything will lead up to? If EVERYTHING costs the same, then either heavy subsidies will be required to balance out the prices, or prices will be absurdly high! The former will quickly bankrupt the country and people through absurdly high taxes; the latter will result in businesses going bust due to them pricing themselves out of reach of most people! Either scenario is undesirable; they are also ALWAYS the INEVITABLE RESULT of socialism

You know tkl, what you really need is to undergo radical internal surgery to disconnect your rectum from your cranial cavity so that it won’t be filled with your own excrement so that it won’t keep spilling out your oral orifice anymore! Either that, or you should just STFU!!!!

  • Scholar my foot:

    Under PAPi regime, things get really horrible, topsy-turvy, literally out of hands, out of touch with the people. Let me explain;

    Singtel under temesak holdings;

Account under myportal is only shown for past 6 months. For reasons of their mistakes, (again*), I want to check when! my account number was changed without my knowledge, to my surprise bills from the 7 months backwards is charged at $5.35 PER bill. Shocking! Shockingly Unacceptable. Bloody Gold Digger. I lodged a phone complaint for my account number to be investigated. Don’t know if it would be conveyed to the manager though. From previous experience with the CECA FTs as I roughly discerned, they don’t care, it would be dingo around, unless you write to the media like TRE.

Also to my dismay, I discovered that my Singtel log-in account ID and password was implemented to be the same as the the email account ID and password. No wonder you have all the data breaches. This is really careless, I should say. If I remember correctly the email log in password and the Singtel account password were not the same previously. You wouldn’t want your bank account password to the the same too, right?.

Of all the scholarly textbooks precaution on data security, you have such implementation from SINGTEL! do I need to remind you Sing-health data breaches.

You see, some users would compromise their email password onto 3rd party email client [software], right?. Compromising the email password should not lead to Singtel account being exposed as well, right?. My God, we can only make this as a suggestion to them. Singtel under the old man time were more diligent and caring with the People.

Horrible…. I can only say Horrible to the worse…. No love, No care, Money$, check pass bills also must Pay$ and hikes and hikes. Top Scholars so What?

Hence IMHO, Scholars do not guarantee good leaders.

    Some excerpts from China website.

It is downplayed because a new world order is forming at it’s infancy, the western democracy versus the eastern autocratic block, with China leading the pack.
If this were to happen there will be a gradual decoupling of world economy into two major blocks, one lead by US dollar, the other Reminbi.
How this will pan out, will tread closely with situation in HK.

As for Sillypore, nothing much will change, it will be more of the same, 10M planning parameter, cheap talents from Russia, perhaps hackers, a few more non residing “naturalised” billionaires to prop the GDP and much inflow of laundered riches, making a much more prosperous natural aristocrats and their own promise of More Good Years.

    To Mr. Tan Kin Lian,

Your idea of having price guidelines for services is one of the most STUPIDEST idea that I’ve heard of, in a long time.

Setting prices by a central authority is basically hearkening back to the Centrally-Planned Economy of the COMMUNIST system.

You might as well say the gov institute a centrally-planned guideline for all employee salaries in all industries?

Of course, the highest paid will then inevitably have to be the class of politicians from a specific party who are deemed, beyond a shadow of a doubt, to have the greatest contribution to our economy? Ha!

Henceforth, Mr. Tan, you should entertain & disturb only yourself with your horrendous karaoke singing wearing your “Phantom Opera” mask alone and in the dark, because no one really wants to listen to your rubbish proposals anymore.
