Where PAP is most vulnerable

In PAP is like one armed swordsman,I said I’d talk more about the election goodies.

“Ownself fund ownself”

We know the PAP has been doling out the goodies. But remember it’s all from yr own money.

In 2018, I wrote

[O]ver the last 10 years, Singapore’s net investment returns (NIR) contribution (NIRC) to the Budget has more than doubled from S$7 billion in FY2009 to an estimated S$15.9 billion in FY2018.

Waz this NIRC and NIR BS?

NIRC consists of 50 per cent of the Net Investment Returns (NIR) on the net assets invested by GIC, the Monetary Authority of Singapore and Temasek Holdings and 50 per cent of the Net Investment Income (NII) derived from past reserves from the remaining assets.

In other words, we spend 50 per cent of the estimated gains from investment, and put the remaining 50 per cent back into the reserves to preserve its growth for future use.

Associate Professor Randolph Tan is Director of the Centre for Applied Research at the Singapore University of Social Services, and a Nominated Member of Parliament.

Under PAP rule will S’pore become like UK or Venezuela?

In 2011 I wrote the following explaining how the money for our SWFs really came from us (When most probably Roy Ngerng was still wearing shorts and still coming to terms with his sexuality):

https ://atans1.wordpress.com/2010/11/02/how-we-fund-our-swfs/

https://atans1.wordpress.com/2010/11/19/property-sales-also-fund-our-swfs/

At the most, the PAP govt should be given credit for allowing S’poreans to spend more of our own money on ourselves. And even that was because in 2011, the voters gave the Pap an underwhelming ruling mandate to govern. And if not for Goh Meng Seng, his useful idiot Tan Kin Lian and Tan Jee Say (opportunists three), the PAP’s preferred presidential candidate would have lost to Dr Tan Cheng Bock.

So spread the word to those who think that they should be grateful to the PAP for the goodies that its our money the PAP is spending, but claiming credit for. Sadly, I doubt this will happen because cybernuts rather spread anti-PAP BS than the nuanced truth, even if the latter can persuade the PAP voters who think (about 35% of the voters: those who voted for Dr Tan Cheng Bock).

GST

In How PAP can win 65% plus of the vote, I pointed out that postponing the GST rise is the best to ensure a 65%+ share of the popular vote for the 4G leaders. But the 4G leaders think that the goodies doled out are sufficient for a 62% victory, if not more. (Btw, article lists most of the goodies)

Well this gives the Oppo a good chance to KPKB about the folly of increasing GST when the global and S’pore economy are weak, if not in recession (“Only cold spell coming, but not Winter,” says Heng). But will they do it? I have my doubts.

I’ll end with:

Countering PAP’s BS that taxes must go up

Welfarism the PAP way/ The last word on GST

which show that really the PAP govt doesn’t need the GST to fund future welfare spending.

Article title by CI most misleading! PAP aren’t vulnerable because their pay, entitlements & benefits shield them from the incoming economic turbulence. It is the voters who would be most vulnerable in any upcoming calamity!

S’pore entire Political-Economic Structure is set for many hidden surprises in an incoming Economic Depression! The US-China trade wars are causing enormous fissures in an already unstable Global Economy. There are already shifts in Global agriculture which resulted in enormous climate instability:
    * The forest fire in the Amazon rainforest are the results of land clearing for more farmlands to grow soy beans for China;
    * Closer to home, the fires causing the haze are the results of a higher Palm oil price.

The PAP & their crony capitalist core groups have configured S’pore into essentially a Brick ‘N Mortar Economy. Brick ‘N Mortar basically are debt-infested vehicles (huge capital spending upfront) with a long-term view on capital-recovery & profitability down the road! This long-term view are inconsistent with the present day disruptions & discontinuities.

S’pore has a 2-tier economy; one, dominated by MNCs & foreign companies here on tax grants & tax holidays. They are transient, ready to uproot at a moment’s notice for greener pastures elsewhere. It is no coincidence that they prefer to employ foreigners by the boatloads (plane loads). Foreigners have no labour protection in S’pore! Once the foreign company terminates their Employment pass, they are out their own! If they can’t find another employer in a given time, they have to leave S’pore!

The other is S’pore domestic economy which are dependent on consumption & spending. Look at certain hotspots in S’pore – Orchard Road, Holland V, Dempsey Road, East Coast Road – these places cater primarily to foreign expatriates. If they depend on locals, 100% of them would closed shop! Same goes for rental housing, Grab/GoJek, Food Delivery – they depend on foreign expat spending.

The US-China spat is causing a cash flow crunch! Without trade as a lubricant, the present day indebted economy grinds to a halt. The first signs are the bond market where indebted companies can:t refinance their due loans. Subsequent signs will be sudden deaths in the tourism, retail & F&B sector.

Watch & see the unfolding crisis!

  • Harder Truths:

Makes a lot of sense CI. I wish you would post more information like this.

I agree that a government should be small and private sector large. The government is a means to an end – the money spent by the private sector is much better at creating wealth than the government can ever hope to do – because private investments directly raises the assets of the citizens across the board and not the government-held holdings which are doled out to citizens only if they put this government back in power. Basically our money is used to blackmail us to stay as servants and not free ourselves.

The argument that citizens will squander away their wealth is false. There is always a proportion that takes advantage of society trying to get freebies – this is true. But there are more real cases of people who cannot cope and these cases should be treated on their own merits instead of using them to deny everyone else the fruits of their honest labour.

The government has been elected to make sure the rewards are adequately addressed and who is cheating and who is not.

Instead, we have a despot and his gang taking everything we have – including our happiness and respect – fleecing us the last 55 years and all we have to show for it is 70% of the tormented being scared of change and grovelling before their politically retarded idols.

    1) no more “LKY effect”

    2) regime change in Malaysia

    3) relentless “rent-seeking” activities of the Government since LHL became PM

    4) depleted CPF accounts after paying for low quality, over-priced HDB flat

    5) truth that HDB flats is a depreciating asset and will depreciate to ZERO despite HIP 1 and HIP 2

    6) most retirement savings (CPF) of Singaporeans stuck in over-priced, depreciating HDB flat.

Blame destruction of rain forest on US-China trade war? Come come, China’s soy bean or food problem is China’s own doing. China brought this problem onto itself.

“Farmers have long been the victims of corrupt officials and crooked businessmen who together bullied or swindled them out of their land…”

“By one estimate 70 million farmers have been victims of land seized between 1994 and 2004. The figure is expected to rise above 100 million.”

“Sometimes farmers are given only a few days notice before bulldozers arrive on the scene and tore down their houses and ripped up their cornfields and rice paddies and laid foundations for new factories.”

    http://factsanddetails.com/china/cat9/sub63/item1109.html

China’s industrialization has also resulted in significant environmental damage….Industrial pollution has tainted as many as 13 million tons of crops with heavy metals.

“….nearly 60 percent of China’s underground water is polluted and unfit for drinking without treatment….areas like Henan province…government to prohibit the farming of 8 million acres of contaminated agricultural land…..”

    https://chinapower.csis.org/china-food-security/

Local governments…can and do seize land, re-zoning it and selling it for development. It is their main source of income.

“Right now, economic growth and local government finances all depend on the money made from land sales,”

“Huge profits are involved. So they take our land, demolish our houses whatever the cost. It’s happening everywhere in China.

Ha-ha-ha-ha! Came out of your hole again after I sent you scurrying back into your refuge hole the last time. You had nothing to offer nor to rebut!

FYI, agriculture is now big business for many big economies! Large tracts of land & mechanisation provide huge incentives for export sales. Shows how unintelligent you are about Global understanding of cause-&-effect! And if you studied Palm Oil prices, the haze events happens during the years when Palm Oil future prices were highest.

And if you had studied Economics or understand Michael Porter’s Theory of Competitive Strategy, you would know that China opted for Comparative Advantage in Manufacturing instead of Agriculture. Agriculture, for China is subsistence farming at best. Ask any Chinamen today, they will tell you that their life is better now than in the past! And you want them to go back to subsistence farming, ha-ha-ha-ha!

And if you are intelligent, you would understand China’s development model follows closely S’pore’s own model! Criticism without knowledge is pure nitpicking! You are a nitpicker!

And if you remembered the old S’pore River, it was so polluted that people wouldn’t swim in it. It took the PAP govt millions to clean up the river! Then again, you have subjective blindness when it comes to S’pore! And what about the Land Acquisition Act?

If you’re so critical of China, why don’t TRE readers all chipped in for you to buy a plane ticket to China for you to speak ill about China & see the consequence. But I know your bravery only extends as far as to your anonymity behind your keyboard!

If S’pore govt is so concerned about foreign interference, why is it that you as a PAP IB not following their protocol?

What’s your concern for China when it is none of your fiacking business? Aren’t you guilty of foreign interference?

All the “free smokes” & “pork soup” jokes to an US audience rebounded badly on S’pore on a geopolitical front! It got an uninvite from China for their 1st BRI conference in Beijing! Every one in ASEAN got invited except S’pore. How humiliating it was for S’pore?

Didn’t the PAP went on a counter-offensive to downplay the snub by China to allay fears that S’pore could be strategically sidelined by China’s BRI strategy. And that was when foreign investors in S’pore were alarmed at China’s actions. Didn’t this showed that money speaks louder than pure arrogance?
