Protest 101 – Singapore’s Style on 5th October at The Substation

Gilbert Goh

We will be organising an indoor event entitled “Protest 101 – Singapore’s Style” on 5th October (Saturday) from 230pm to 5pm at The Substation 45 Armenian St.

The event will cover topics such as barriers and challenges faced by activists when organising a protest held at the speakers’ corner and behind-the-scene happenings surrounding several large-scale protests involving the population white paper in 2013 and presidential election in 2017. We will also discuss the mechanics behind any organisation of an event held at the park.

More than ten thousand people have attended our events at Hong Lim Park and so far we are proud to report that none has being arrested by the authorities.

Singapore has a limited form of democracy since independence and street protests like those held in Hong Kong recently are banned. We can only protest within the compound of Hong Lim Park and we have seen recent huge crowd especially the ones surrounding Pink Dot and the CPF issue among others. Though mild in comparison to many other open street protests of other countries, it has served its purpose in a limited form.

Organisers have to walk a tight rope when they held such high-profiled events and though we don’t have any rioting incident within the park so far, the authorities on the other hand are wary of any large-size crowd gathering for that matter.

As the front-line people, we were also summoned for coffee sessions before during the initial period and this has kept us on our toes all along to continue to push the boundaries abeit softly whenever possible. Our motto all along is to work with the authorities to provide a reliable platform to voice out our concerns in a safe and secure environment without any blood being shed.

Having organise close to twenty events at speakers’ corner for the past nine years since 2011 have given us the edge to talk a little bit about dissent, protest and resistance within the framework of Singapore’s democratic limit of free speech and freedom.

As Singapore matures in age and development, the urge for more democratic space to express oneself will always be there and hopefully one day we can fully embrace democracy in it’s full form.

Please support the event if you are free and it is non-partisan in nature. We have also invited some students’ union groups to attend as well.

The media will be invited of course.

Volunteers assisting us all along will be asked to speak in general but the main speaker will be myself. Q & A session will follow immediately after.

Attendance is limited to about 100 only so do register early to avoid disappointment.

NB: No permit is necessary as it is a indoor event but registration of attendance will be required at the door. The event is free of charge but we cherish any donation to offset the cost incurred.

  • Thank you, Gilbert:

Great change comes about with small arduous steps. And in pap Singapore, potentially litigious bankrupting steps.

But what is life when pap Singapore lies about HDB being asset, INDIAN is malay, INSIDE 200m is not within 200m, cannot sue sibling sister Dr Lee Wei Ling but can sue non brother Mr Terry Xu?

Such a life is 70% sheep life. Nothing great. Paying market rate for 3rd class education in nus ntu smu when ah neh fake degrees pinoy fake degrees get priority even in supposedly high barrier entry professions such as medicine.

Thank you, Gilbert, worthy son of Singapore. We are not 70% sheep. We are the 30% OPPO. The only thing is we do not have the balls to do what you do, even though heart of hearts we have been telling folks what the HK youths are doing today is something worth doing, since at least it gives them a chance whereas as things stand, they not only cannot afford more and more expensive smaller smaller highrise units, they are squeezed out of their land of birth.

Thank you, Gilbert. Life is so short. If pap S$m thieving gang comes after you, it means you are on the right track.

The SPF/LAW MINISTRY is targetting ALL THE WRONG AREAS.They simply NEGLECT THE AREAS OF GRAVE PUBLIC CONCERNS like PUBLIC/CITIZEN SECURITY n GO FULL FORCE to CLAMP HONEST FEEDBACKS/ CRITICISMS.

If you get whacked by crooks, the police would simply tell you to use your own means to seek recourse.
If you get punched by some crooks,he will not be arrested unless you bleed till you are half-dead???

Thats WHY more crooks are going around causing trouble to law-abiding citizens.

    Whats law for?
    Whats police force for?

  • PSLE again:

Gilbert, try organizing a protest for stressed-out PSLE mothers and fathers. Maybe people will be angry enough to join?

This year PSLE is even difficult for Junior College students and even university students!. Some “educator” trying to prove himself/herself.

digress a little bit ? know why the people of certain countries go for village justice ? no trust in the system ? never assume that all enforcement officers actually are working for the people totally ?

enforcement officers are there to help enforce the law and not all laws are necessarily geared in favor of the victims in certain context; and certain law (in sinkie land context) is geared to protect the white idiots and gang more (double standard ?) than the normal average people ? for example lar, try scolding (or even delivering some undesirable physical contact) on a ministar / or tua-liak white monkey idiot in front of everyone as against some normal average ah beng or ah seng ? see the outcome (different outcome) lor ?

  • use their own grey matter:

//try organizing a protest for stressed-out PSLE mothers and fathers. Maybe people will be angry enough to join?//

aiyoh. these stressed-out mum and dad, still need protests to remind them meh ? they cannot use / utilize their own grey matter to VTO the white idiots meh ? this stress is going to be increased hor as the open-leg policy is moving towards 6.9m and 10m ? white idiots do not classify this open-leg policy as “foreign interference” to add in more competition in “stealing lunches” from your kids leh in the future ?

Don’t talk rubbish. I am a born and bred Singaporean and has been around for 70 years. If the Singapore Police Force is so bad as described by you, there is no way that the law and order of our country can be so good. The facts speak for itself. Instead of give SPF bouquet of flowers, you are hurling stones against them without the slightest reason. STOP IT.
