Some daming statistics to think about

Since 2011 our total workforce has grown by 438,500 according to Singstats, however over half (51.5%) or almost 226,000 of those jobs have gone to non-residents. Our listed unemployment rate is 3.3% which equates to approx. 75,000 people although anecdotally the actual number is probably a lot higher (and that doesn’t count the underemployed). On the face of it if we had just 1/3 less foreigners then theoretically, we should have full employment so why don’t we? And why do we have this growing crisis in our PMET sector?

It does not seem that we don’t have the jobs available so it must be that we have a mismatch between our population and the employers/ jobs and the government is choosing a short term solution to flood in foreigners rather than institute more effective long term policies and spend the resources to retrain the population and re-educate and incentivise the employers to hire them.

But why has this situation occurred? Who has overseen our education and economic policy for the last 54 years? It looks like there have been many areas where forward thinking and planning were not up to standard to say the least if they were supposed to serve all the people.

Now defenders may argue that the world is changing too fast and so it couldn’t be planned for however much of what we see today was known decades ago and many other countries have planned for it.

The roots of the knowledge economy go right back to the 60’s and really took off in the 90s and early 2000’s. The Industry 4.0 phenomenon, or the 4th Industrial revolution, which encompasses the AI and digital revolution, started in earnest early this decade. All these were knowns however our system has not changed to adapt to them, at least not materially for the masses.

One of our issues appears to be we have KPI’s beyond fully educating and employing our citizens that I feel extend into areas related to power and control of the incumbent administration, the vested interest of a few and old-style industrial thinking where the population are engineered to fit an economic plan, creating widgets for the machine if you will, rather than fully serving everyone regardless.

We still have only 31% of our population with university education, well below the OECD average, while many of our global competitors are in the high 40% to low 50% range. When people are our only asset why are we not maximising them? As I mentioned the other day from Wikileaks we know the government has deliberately restricted the numbers and yet since that revelation and a promise to change what have they really done?

And just the other day we had the controversy of the PSLE Maths exams and the difficulty of the questions. Well I am not against competition but to continue to enforce the “numbers” I suspect our national bell curve must have been pushed very far to the right if that level of difficulty is required to ensure a certain % don’t make the cut. I would imagine if we were judged against externals many of our children who consider themselves failures under this system would succeed very well indeed. Is that good for our children’s mental wellbeing or futures?

In addition it is highly likely that it is only the recently revealed $1.4 Billion spent annually on tuition that enables those who do make it to get through and shows our institutional system must be really failing the general population as only those with the resources to get the extra support (and sadly with the consequent loss of a real childhood) can excel.

Whether it is employment policy, the economy as a whole, or educational rationing, I must ask do we have a government that is working for our best interests? And remember in the 4.0 world we won’t just be competing within our borders but online in a global marketplace and if we don’t have a fully educated population how will we compete or be relevant?

When combined with my thoughts on population that I published earlier this week I fear this says that Educational Apartheid and Economic Eugenics are still fully in force and our next election is not going to just be about competence and accountability it really is about survival.

The next few months will be about existential choices indeed. I hope you can help educate all those around you to this for if we stay blind, or worse, buy the rhetoric without looking at the actual facts of what has been done (and not just said), then we may just be walking off a metaphorical cliff and regardless of past successes the future of our nation is very bleak indeed.

You’re free to worship any god in this country; just don’t you impinge upon the other guy’s belief system. But when it comes to national service, never forget that we’re all servants of the Money Deity, and the Leevis are the chief priests. But of course, they have crystallised their concentric privileged circles to protect themselves to thrive. And what caste are we servants in their money-caste religionism?

Yep! As I’ve said previously, Singaporeans seem like mules, it may take a big ‘whack’ across the bottom to wake them up and get them moving. Monitoring this simple trend in my business has been a very reliable indicator of the state of our general economy. I think the “better numbers strategy” is already being employed…I wouldn’t be surprised to see political pressure on Singstats to report better numbers.

There is another problem with this analysis. Brad, you expects voters to behave rationally. I am increasingly less inclined to expect anything approaching sense coming out of them. And it doesn’t take a genius to understand. The banks are still giving out loans to people that if the economy slumps, we will have massive underwater housing debts. We are definitely entering a period of economic slow down.

Yesterday, HP, Inc. announced it was shedding 7000-9000 jobs worldwide within the next few months. Another recession, businesses failing, people losing their jobs and a global market drop is guaranteed. The issue is that the coming recession will hurt, especially middle- and lower-income Singaporeans.
    Its starting folks.

So @Brad you have the statistics, so did Leong Sze Hian, Roy, Dr Chee and many others. Do you truly think that Singaporeans give a damn about them?

In fact, we don’t need any statistics to see the number of foreigners in Singapore. They are in our offices, our neighbors, shopping centers, on the street, in our public transportation, in the RCs/CCCs, in the universities and everywhere else.

BBC reported UN’s 2018 population in Singapore is made up of 46% immigrants. You think Singaporeans are worried?

A Global Poolster Ipsos shows Singaporeans don’t care about the haze!! So what else do they care?

Singaporeans care about selling their flats at high price, forgetting that their children will be buying at a high price later!

Singaporeans wanted about their children getting a place in local Universities, but mostly taken up by SG sponsored foreigners. They just blame their children for not being smart enough.

SG’s PMET jobs were taken up by foreigners, they blame themselves they don’t have enough training and re-training. They believe foreigners create jobs for them.

So are we talking to a wall??

Not short term but planned eradication & total replacement of the indigenous population like what happened to the Red Indians in America & to the Aborigines in Australia! Sounds ridiculous, right? Wait till it happens!

Look at the 2019 URA MasterPlan; listen to 2019 ND Rally Speech about the Great Southern Waterfront Development Plan. In addition, remembered the so-called rejuvenation of Jurong East Precinct (with 2 Golf Courses acquired) for the now-stalled High Speed Rail project with M’sia. A lot of ambitious plans with huge bills to be paid for a fast deteriorating & indebted Global Economy!

Go around S’pore, there are too many ambitious projects being constructed at tax-payers cost for the future. The question now is that do you truly believe in such a rosy picture with the current dismal economic picture?

The Jewels @ Changi opened to only 3-4 months of packed crowds only to fade into a quieter surroundings after the “Waterfall” novelty wore off. Global Tourism is contracting rapidly as we write. UK’s Thomas Cook is under liquidation. Did you know that Silk Air mothballed 6 Boeing Max planes at Alice Springs? A lot of Global Budget Airlines are facing an Existential Fate!

Who do you think all these PAP projects were targetted for? S’poreans? or foreigners?

    http://theindependent.sg/upon-completion-tuas-port-will-be-worlds-biggest-fully-automated-terminal/
Tuas West Port Development will be constructed at a cost of some SG$20 Billion.
Excerpts:”Such contribution could scale up as the new port and will be able to handle 65 million twenty-foot equivalent units annually – almost double last year’s 36 million TEUs.” Ambitious, right?

But don’t forget that China is also setting up their BRI which many S’poreans are either in denial or not know that it strategically bypass S’pore’s location!

Anyone believing in Globalisation needs a Wake-Up call! Trump is mired in a Domestic Civil War with rival Democratic Party! Boris Johnson inherited a BREXIT mess which threatens to send the UK down the path of economic irrelevance! Japan just hike their sales tax to 10% & now await to see the recessionary effects on domestic consumption! Even China are facing many domestic debt issues while those Chinese companies listed in the US fret about bring cast out from the US bourse.

And the gravy train of IPO riches in the US has ended! WeWork (Unicorn IPO) now facing hard truths about their “cash burning” business model.

  • Obvious n simple:

PAP ministers n harem of grossly indoctrinated compliant bureaucrats to help conceal their corruptive activities via abuse of absolute power including as LKY pointedly told Singaporeans in his devilish countenance that anyone opposing or disagreeing with him n HIS policy are his enemy n he wouldn’t spare any effort including illegal faking evidence like Operation Cold Store which Danabalam the infamous Indian minister got slapped before cabinet ministers when he doubted his gorilla capability expressed his doubts of the evidence of Commo conspiracy but being a faithful bootlicker even to the humiliated slap by a young punk just becos of nepotic link, he kept silent which Americans including the Congress n Senate would consider as treason n deserving their tradition treatment of men of treason ie execution! Now the PAP ministers right from young ferocious but kiasi chief nepotist distrust Singaporeans so much that they r more willing to use state fund to employ alien bodyguard n providing free support of their family in Their Singapore. Talking about fake news, the papists at the head the man noted for his face of scorn n evil r the best
fakers in the world. They faked to cover up the financial to the interest n benefits of aliens. They spent 7s$28 millions under Kim tantrum that he refused to come to SIN if PAP govt not providing all expenses paid trip. Many Singaporeans.l wondered how much Kim, Trump n the contingents angpau each gets from the S$28 m which even UN suspects Kim six top range Mercs were gift from PAP dipping their hands in SIN kitty. The $130 m for free education of aliens to many soundsm rather ow for the number of them on the island while raising education cost every year on Singaporeans. Worse becaos of their mindless import, the tertiary education places become insufficient n pap campaign that thrre is no need to go to u n pap would soon has non uni grad as minister. The bootlicking ST ran articles of dropout n gangster became millionaires.
With such oath betrayal (us called it committing treason) in pap ministers n the compliant bureaucrats including justice which now if u don’t have $ don’t expect to have justice re nus student shortchanged of Master degree. So with such alien filth inclination, what PAP would not do. Implication of LKY threat of Singaporeans being maids n coolies now become clear that daft Singaporeans do not need to go abroad, they would soon doing those jobs in Singapore. See GCT talked abt heartlander n quitter while his daughter is a quitter n he a neither here nor there quitter. His son joined hands with Mrs Koh to deprive Singaporeans medic study while they can get admited n not practising all for fun stupid Sporeans! now isn’t it obvious n simple the self centred corruptive agenda Pimps n…

The present day PAP govt reminds me a lot about WeWork – the Co-Working Space Company. Their business model was to secure & committing long term leases in lieu of fully letting out of their Co-Working Space.

Their business growth model was simply cornering a portion of the office leasing market using lots of monies from venture capitalists & by using commercial mortgage-backed security (CMBS) to acquire commercial space & show impressive growth in business capacity. This worked out well so long as the funds kept flowing in!

Yet the basic periodic mismatch was their long term liabilities [long term leases & commercial mortgage-backed security (CMBS)] vs their short term lease revenues from renting out their Co-Working Space realm. This is the rudimentary stuff that creates financial crisis & cash flow problems!

And when their exit route (IPO) was shut out. WeWork completely fell apart at the seams & their charismatic CEO Adam Neumann was removed. Neumann reportedly cashed out millions from running WeWork as their CEO. Note the similarities except that S’pore will have to burden the tax payers if things don’t work out!

Even if SG was invited to the very first BRI conference, SG Ports will still be under threat of being side-lined.

Even if SG was allowed to actively participate in BRI, PSA will still be under threat.

This has been on-going for donkey years. This is a normal and admirable behaviuor of neighbouring countries trying to emulate or take over the pivotal role of SG ports.

This threat is always there, always real but has nothing to do with BRI or not being invited to BRI or that SG is not “neutral” enough.

Would BRI ever support SG roles as a shipping hub with the US 7th Fleet also based here?

BRI is not business. BRI is political. Just an excuse to try to turf out a rival. Is it not?

Ask yourself why would China “reinvent the wheel” through investing in their Shipping Infrastructure when S’pore’s Port Facilities were already there? Is there a greater motive behind China’s BRI?

Don’t confused the cause-&-effect reason with saying China’s BRI was “already there”. People who argue on face-value situations don’t get far in life. You need to probe further! Otherwise, it’s you who would get smoked!

The US is in decline. It’s that obvious! And who paid the bill for Trump peace summit with Kim Jong-Un in S’pore? And in the end, the US-North Korea peace talk still ended without any peace resolution! S’pore’s tax payers monies went down the drain!

No SEA Country would want to host the US Military today with the exception of Taiwan (but they’re in North Asia). The Philippines gave the US Military the heave-ho out of Clark Airbase decades ago. All they created in economic activities were Girlie Bars & rampant Prostitution among the Pinay women! Okinawan in Japan would want the US Military out of Okinawa after there were a number of issues of US Servicemen raping their local women. No justice was served for Okinawans as those US Servicemen culprits were repatriated back before the case could proceed.

US 7th Fleet is just a colonial vessel for US Hegemony & for US Servicemen’s bad behaviour. Unless you’re thinking of opening Girlie Bars in S’pore or be a Pimp, your desire for the US 7th fleet shows your hidden agenda!

Even an Economic Observer who commented recently on M’sia-China East Coast Rail Link said, “the [ECRL] deal had to be welcomed as the country was “in dire need” of fresh foreign direct investment. “In that sense, China is probably the only game in town in terms of future investments as the US increasingly is looking inward while Japan and Europe are yet to pick up their own slack” Oh Ei Sun, a senior fellow of the Singapore Institute of International Affairs who is also a long time Malaysian Political Observer.

BRI isn’t totally political but basic economics, realignment of traditional trade routes. And S’pore will be the Ultimate Loser in China’s BRI equation!

S’pore is only an Intermediary in the Global Supply Chain. And if China whose is the world’s biggest Manufacturing Economy in the world wants to configure their trade routes – this time would be different for S’pore! You can’t presume the past & assume that it would continue indefinitely for the future.
