Please format and punctuate your comments (Reminder)

Recently, we have noticed a few new readers who like to post long comments in a post but neglecting to format or punctuate them, resulting in these comments being barely readable and therefore making moderation very difficult and time-consuming.

An EXAMPLE of such a comment is attached:

Beholdened cronies, with little or zero relevant experience, that were parachuted into important high positions need lots of new Wayangs to boast contributions and visibility to their masters. To an initiative that has taken root, the growth to show might be little, or worse, unable to beat competitions and decline. It is far easier to embark on a new pet project that one owns and can boast while drop an established old strategy by somebody else that is not showing result, who has already moved on to some other departments in the establishment. This lack of continuum in strategy is plaguing PAP government. This is why some netizens lamenting PAP is throwing good money to solve an issue . The netizens have to have the insight of the workings of the system to understand the issue. This is where a deep understanding of the relevant industry is needed to decide. Nothing will give overnight success, one will need that understanding to underpin the decision to take or else might fall into the trap of giving up prematurely. In one area, the strategy of pursuing a high tech manufacturing and research sector is largely a right one, but do the PAP bureaucrats handling these have the right and depth of industrial experience to develop, transit and expand the efforts? The harddisk industry came and gone, the semiconductor industry came and going, biotech is at stagnation and now the focus seems to be software fintech, which is even more transitory as it is not as capital intensive. The PAP bureaucrats failed to understand that technologies evolve and new ones need the understanding of the older ones. Just as high tech clusters evolve, strategy needs to evolve as well, the changes in industry are never abrupt, though some technological inventions can be disruptive. However PAP bureaucrats seems to treat individual initiative as silo projects, moving from one to next with little synergy amongst the efforts. One reason is because the scholars helming these initiatives, besides the lack of in-depth knowledge and insight, took these as just a tour of duty in their administrative careers, a check to be ticked in their resumes. The current local expert knowledge talent base is dwindling. Many local experienced PMETs are retrenched or retired early. Many of these will move on, either underemployed or migrated. All the hard effort in the last 3 decades of pursuing a knowledge economy seems to be gradually wasted. So what happened to the government? Where is the continuity in strategy? Where is the ruthless pursue of perfection and efficiency? Where is the savviness in foreign affairs? The quality of every new generation of leaders seems to have declined greatly, powers seems to be even more concentrated to a few, younger ministars become overpaid docile digits.

Since moderating these type of comments are time-consuming, they are normally moved into the spam folder to be re-visited as and when a moderator has time on his or her hands, resulting in delays in these comments appearing on TRE (at times, they are simply deleted according to our ‘if we cannot read or understand them, we delete them’ policy).

We wish to assure our readers that we value each and every comment from our readers but please do spare a thought for our moderators who have to read hundreds of comments daily. Properly formatting and spacing comments would make their job a lot easier as we are short on manpower.

Thank you for your consideration and continued support.

Ha ha this isn’t limited to just TRE, loads of Facebook messages are posted the same way.

Lack of punctuation is one thing, a bloody BIG block of text is another. The author must have forgotten what is paragraphing.

Heads up TRE, if it was me I would delete the post on sight. After all, if the author cannot even give a damn to paragraph his comment then why should you go waste your time to read it tio bo?

Who are the si kui kias who have made our busy TRE moderators’ job so difficult? Haha, just kidding.

Heng ah, TRE moderators are not Lee Bee Huay who would anyhow scold and call people “si kui kia”. Nice, honourable people have respect for others and talk nicely unlike the PLP Ah Huay.

Thank you for the hard work, TRE moderators! Appreciate lots!

I think the above example by TRE moderators could be someone like @Ilideluminia who tries to write Queen English using an Artificial Intelligence scriptwriter software. That’s why turns out like constipated craps. So put blame on Queen’s English.

Obviously, TR Emeritus aims to reach out to as many people as possible using all the four official languages as the medium.

Comments written in bombastic or Queen English would definitely be difficult for ordinary Singaporean to comprehend. Though most Singaporean are said to be bilingual, only a small percentage of them are truly effective bilingual.

It is TR Emeritus’s choice now to try to reach out to the maximum possible or just the small percentage of “elites”.

  • Roger Mc Smiley:

This lack of clarity on communication stems from not be sensitive to others.

They post without thought for the readers.

In a rat race city like sg, many have been selfish. This isolated people into individuals, loose sands.

People lose empathy. Many expect others to die for them but they themselves will never die for others. But what goes around comes around. Being selfish to others has effect on self. Backfiring. Eg. Singaporeans see opposition leaders being crushed. They cannot find courage to help those being crushed. No Empathy.

When they got retrenched or sacked they felt extreme injustice. They wish someone can sacrifice for them by speaking out for them. But those who can have been crushed .

Social Justice requires Collective effort and effect. Singaporeans become selfish . This is not wise as this is not IN THEIR SELF INTEREST because they cause a society lacking People power. There is no one to help them.

Monica experienced immense injustice. She tried talking to NUS. STUNNED by their response she felt helpless. Pushed to the wall, she went IG and it went viral.

Individuals are powerless against authorities. This is fundamentally why we need People Power. This power is not guaranteed by anything. It can only be effect by the mob. Gov has a guaranteed power. Authorities have been given power. But the people have not been given people power which is only created by the mob.

    @[email protected] Emeritus

Why not recruit a few of the regular readers here as moderators? I am sure they don’t mind doing for free during spare time, to ease the burden, since it is for a good cause.

Mod: We are always open to volunteers, but there is a difference between commenting and moderating. Many would shun the latter, not sure why. Anyway, if anyone is interested, please feel free to contact our techie so he can setup a moderator account.

  • Self Censorship, Needless Work:

Why is there a need to moderate general comments?
The above comment example does not appear disorderly, in fact quite insightful if one bothers to understand it.

These are good opinions, why discard them when you couldn’t understand them?
If the comments are so hard to understand, the spycatchers won’t find it easy either , so why bother?

Other than TRE finds certain comments hard to read, what else does it matter?
Why bring the needless work of moderating such opinions onto yourselves?
Why not let readers decide what they want to read?
Some readers will skip lengthy comments but still many others won’t.

Why do you want to decide what others read?
You want to survive to make money or survive to do a cause?
You need to revisit how TRE was first started.

    Hi, @TRE;

Don’t you think from now on, before we post a comment, should we start with “In my opinion ….” and ends with “possibly be asked to take down by a Minister.”

Just in case the comment is being POFMAed.

The way I see it, TRE is like our FT policy. Open legs to any Tom, Dick or Harry. Try to be fair to all. Don’t mind the quality of comments. That’s why hard to survive till now.

Don’t moderate and you will not have such issues!

Just like the red dot, the more you micro manage, the more issues you will have, the more levers you have to manage, eventually your daft brains will be overwhelmed and then to keep under control or markers, push the extra demand to poor frustrated sinkies or might decide just to drop the comments, or fine them.

Soon your mind becomes closed, the comment site becomes stale with lack of new ideas.

Many come here for the comments and insight, not one or two liner slogans.
