How the Opal card used in Australia is different from our Ez Link card

I bought an Opal card in Sydney two years ago and used it for local transport. I kept the card as I read that it will never transpire. I did not have to pay any fee to get the card. However, there is a minimum top up of $5 (children) or $10 (adult).

When I bought the card, I had to pay by credit card. The sales office does not accept cash.

Another customer in front of me did not have any credit card. I had to use my credit card and receive the cash from him.

On my recent trip, I used the card and was surprised to learn that the money in the Opal card was still intact. The card worked perfectly, in spite of the two year gap.

The EZ Link card in Singapore has cost $5 and also require a top up of $5 or $7, depending on where it is purchased. The card can be used for 5 years and expire. The balance can be transferred to the new card, but the process appears to be quite troublesome and costly to administer.

I find the approach used by Sydney for the Opal card to be more customer friendly.

  • Absolute Power Corrupts:

The “deposit” in EZlink card is now not transferable.
It has been “makan” by the greedy Pappies cronies to boost their profits and salaries.

This is what happens when greedy government also runs the businesses.
Who is going to check on them?
when there is only one voice in parliament?
Any clown prince can self-declare clean in parliament.
    It already happened.

PLASTIC CARD MONEY IN LEE-jiapore is abused by its issuers in most instances because peasants don’t open their stupid mouths to bark back at their rights.

HOW CAN STORED CARD VALUE expires to zero in X years without free transfer to the next period onto another new card?

IT IS THEFT OF PRIVATE PROPERTY – illegal made legal silently!! To me, it is the seduction of convenience followed by RAPE.

That is why we need cash – it is LEGAL TENDER – and CANNOT BE STOLEN if the cash is in your possession.

In LEE-jiapore, plenty of avenues to LEGALLY STEAL SOMEONE MONEY in stored value cards.

CONSUMER PROTECTION GONE ASLEEP as far as regulatory framework is concerned.

1st, you mean expire and not transpire.

2nd, you have a point. everything in pap Singapore is either costing S$ or fails to work. in 1980s, Singapore was one of 4 dragons together with taiwan south korea hk. in less than 30 years, Singapore became 3rd world filled with fake degrees from pinoy ceca ah neh. from worse to worst of the 4 dragons, actually a s*ake now swarmed with pinoys ceca ah nehs with fake degrees.

Same thing happened with the Singtel Public phone cards. All public phones removed and the cards rendered invalid. Singtel don’t even have the decency to refund unused/expired cards. All they did was say they put a notice in the papers.

My internet always gets interrupted by a notice that says:”your connection is interrupted.” Anyone have this problem with Singtel?

Lots of small shops and hawkers don’t like to accept coins. Claim they cannot use or the bank charge them for depositing. If you give them $1 worth of 10 cts they will grumble.

MY INFORMED SOURCES ARE ALWAYS RELIABLE – I gather that it now charges $1 extra each month just for sending out printed billing advice.

There is no OMBUDSMAN in LEE-jiapore. Singtel charges of extra $1 is legal??? To me that is charging customer $$$ – whatever amount that is or maybe – FOR NO SERVICE RENDERED.

Is this not another form of theft in common law?

It is the supplier responsibility to advice of billing charges for customer verification of correctness of billing debit into their giro account.

OTHERWISE, THE SUPERMARKET MIGHT AS WELL CHARGE ITS CUSTOMER AN ADDITIONAL $10 FOR GIVING YOU YOUR PRINT RECEIPT for your payment made by adding to your grocery bill $10 each time even if you only bought $1.20 for a loaf of white bread!!

Gmail offer you unlimited storage for its email services platform, NOW HAVING TRAPPED CUSTOMERS in, Google wants to charged $$$ for storage from all its CAPTURED IMPRISONED CUSTOMERS.

    HA HA HA

Now some banks might offer you debit card account and then inserted into it quietly shared platform with credit card entities to provide you more shopping convenience,

I AM PREDICTING THIS WILL HAPPEN, not alleging it has already happened.

ONCE TRAPPED ENOUGH CUSTOMERS, THEY WILL BILL YOU $$$$ FOR annual MEMBERSHIP just like credit card companies and this time, your BANK DEBIT TO YOUR ACCOUNT DIRECTLY WITHOUT EVEN BILLING ADVICE. Your bank might share the annual fee collected from you with the credit card entities.

DEBIT CARD WITH DIRECT DEBIT OF YOUR BANKING ACCOUNT IS VERY DANGEROUS, it opens the doors to all kind of fraudulent thefts, sooner or later.

And your bankers will be laughing at you as another STUPID AH SENG AS MOCKED AT BY SOMEONE in the political zoo.

I suspect this writer is NOT WRONG.

Transpiration: the process by which water is drawn up through a plant and exits in vapor form from the leaves. Oh wow, you learn something new every day. In all my years doing scientific research obviously I know that plants transpire, but I NEVER knew that ez-link cards ALSO transpire. So tkl, please educate us all since you’re the all-wise, all-knowing ultra-omniscient great sage equal to heaven (NOT!): since ez-link cards transpire, do they also undergo photosynthesis? To me, it’s impossible since photosynthesis as we know it is a biological process which means that non-living things like ez-link cards can’t do it, but then again so is transpiration, and according to tkl ez-link cards can transpire

Hey tkl, please clue us in: WHY are you so STUPID you keep proving how STUPID you really are even when you’re basically right? It seems that you are the ONLY ONE who still hasn’t figured this out yet. The simple reason WHY all these prepaid services expire is so that we’re forced to keep topping up to keep them going, that’s why!!!! WHY ELSE do you think the government is forcing us all to use cashless payments? It’s because cash does NOT expire i.e. if it’s ours, it’s ours. Prepaid on the other hand means that either we keep topping up or we forfeit the unused balance. Either way they get to pocket our money

Understand now tkl? Or your head stuffed too far up your own behind to read this?

Sydney Opal cards DO expire. 9 years I think. The system isn’t old enough to know how they will handle expired cards yet.
They are pushing contactless banking cards as the way forward now anyway.

Recently went back to Singapore after 5 years to find our ezlink cards had expired AND no way to transfer the outstanding balance to a new card. I used Google Pay on my phone via my home debit card account instead. No remaining balance to forfeit.

DOWN UNDER HAS GOT THIS PROTECTION for the consumers after the Haynes Royal Commission report on banking integrity.

    https://www.afca.org.au/

    LEE-jiapore got none.

    Matthew:
They are pushing contactless banking cards as the way forward now anyway.

that is why in Down Under, there is no worry about this

Matthew: No remaining balance to forfeit.

BECAUSE AFCA WON’T TOLERATE ANY FEE COLLECTION FOR NO SERVICES RENDERED.

In LEE-jiapore, big businesses collect as they please as long as you permit giro or contactless banking debit card.

WHAT CAN BE REACHABLE OF TOUCH CAN BE ‘legally stolen” in LEE-jiapore.
