Lessons from Tanjung Pilai by-election

Malaysia’s ruling coalition Pakatan Harapan has lost to the opposition Barisan Nasional at the Tanjung Pilai, Johore by-election on 16 November 2019. Are there any lessons for us?

According to University of Malaya political analyst Muhammad Asri Mohd Ali, “PH has to pay the price. Voters are not willing to be duped and conned by PH anymore”.

In the by-election, there are many issues bothering the voters. Among them, their frustrations and unhappiness over PH’s slow pace of reform, its failure to control the cost of living (like what Singaporeans are experiencing in Singapore), and PH’s failure to fulfill many of its election promises at both the federal and the state level, and the ringgit’s decline etc

The Tanjung Piai by-election result most certainly serves as a warning to the PAP government as well.

In Singapore, our citizens’ frustrations and unhappiness with the PAP government are many too. Likewise, a growing numbers of our voters are not willing to further tolerate the incompetence of the PAP government anymore.

In Singapore, more and more of our elderly citizens are faced with retirement inadequacies – Many are forced to sell a number of the remaining years of their flat lease back to the government to get some money. Many more are forced by circumstances working into their twlight years. Also not forgetting, the PAP government’s failure to honour its own promise to return back to CPF members their full savings when they turned 55 years of age has caused plenty of hardship and heartaches for too many of them.

For those younger Singaporeans who are in the workforce, many of them are experiencing depressed wages, job insecurity, suffocating high cost of living, expensive HDB flats and the high cost of bring up families. Our students put in long hours studying but I am not optimistic that at the end of their formal education journey, they will be rewarded with decent paying jobs.

What we are seeing today is that many of our better paying jobs have already gone to foreigners, especially in the last few years. So, what happen to our young people? Many of them ended up PHV drivers or food delivery riders.

To add insult to injury, none others than that useless PM Lee himself had recently advised our graduates to accept wages that foreigners working in Singapore are willing to accept.

And for those pap ministers? They are all millionaires and they are all living very well. Eh? Can you imagine that? All these and more of PAP government’s incompetency are happening right before our eyes!

Simon, your rhetoric is wrong example. It also shows Oppositions may win a few seats but if they disappoint, the same thing will happen to them.

  • Harder Truths:

Although $G citizens always KPKB they lack the balls to do anything really drastic. Their fear of everything and anything plus lack of self-confidence in themselves points to one outcome – to return the pappies to power again and again.

It does not matter how much or how long you try to reason with the majority – their fear is irrational and cannot be reasoned away.

The 70% would rather work as slaves under the pappies than commit to an unknown and frightening future without the pappies.

The problem is with the bloody kiasees who just will not vote opposition. These brain dead and brainless idiots are beyond hope so the only option left is to wait until they have left the world of the living.

I have far more hope for Gen Y and those born in the 90s. We have to wait until Gen Y and those born after form the majority of voters and that could be another 2 decades away. In the meantime we can only hope that the anger on the ground leads to how GE 2011 turned out, only this time with a lot more than one GRC lost.

  • We can RESET SG POLITICs:

SG Politics can be reset to a more Healthy and people-centric system.

In a nutshell, make every estate not a PAP estate and not a opposition estate.

Every estate sometimes PAP and sometimes Opposition.

This in a nutshell destroys the PAP from dictating our lives. No more Fear and Fear of losing out.

All who have done HDB upgrading should vote opposition for one term and then return back to pap.
This makes every estate party blind. It confuses pap and their grip on our necks is loosened.

It forces them to serve all daily.

  • We can RESET SG POLITICs:

These two policies have failed and destined to fail even more going forward :
    1. CPF lockup and loss of money in investments. This problem is unsolvable by them.

    2. HDB lease and depreciation.
The older flats are destined to lose money. Singkees are fools and waking up slowly.

The future for most Singaporeans is death in the most expensive city in the world. The destiny for everyone is death. Everyone will die. It’s their final destination and no lawyer has tried to debunk me. But you can try.

  • PH topples najib and wife:

many UMNO IBs says PH one term government only.

many pap IBs say when Dr Tan CB OPPO coalition government forms, also one term government only, like Dr Mahatir PH government.

BUT, but, but, one term by Dr Mahatir PH government good enough to indict najib and najib wife and sure as hell najib and najib wife go to jail, finally.

SO, so, so, one term by Dr Tan CB OPPO coalition government is also good enough since all it needs is one term by non pap government to indict lky clown and lky clown wife, finally.

after such indictments, najib najib wife lky clown lky clown wife both UMNO and pap thereafter, if they ever become government again, shall be truly honest, finally.

IT is a very good thing to have New Government, even for one term. as seen in Msia after GE14 so also in Spore after GE2019.

  • A Nation Of Dumb Parrots:

    Only hard votes count.

The only thing that matter is to vote out the pigs.

Without a majority in parliament there is no way to make any policy changes or shifts.
Otherwise talks are just talks, aspirations are just aspirations.

The pigs know this very well, so all is out to remove the eligibility of current key oppositions to stand for election, gerrymandering.

Dafts should have learned from the experience of the president election.
    It’s an outright cheating.

The pigs are after those stupids and new citizens that could bolster their votes to cross the line. This core number to be about 40% now. 30% is already enlightened. The rest will fall on the educated dafts.

Only brilliant “irrational” voting behavior could save this place.
First thing first is to vote only opposition, kick out the pigs to stop the mess and decline, the pruning and tuning can come after.

I know them like the back of my hand. It is not fear of papayas. FEAR of no PMDS, Cars, Condos and being no ‘atas’ in society. As long as all these they have, what for swing votes? The problem is, Singaporeans are given all these by ‘having now’ ‘pay later’ delusions. As I say, wait till the tide recedes and we will be seeing who are the ones swimming naked.

    Hey brother Simon
Just to say I agree almost everything
you have said or written to date.
    We think alike.

Happy to know that you agree how foolish so many Singaporeans are. This also proves my point that academic result is a wrong and inaccurate gauge of wisdom or capability .
