Why I feel the Certis Cisco enforcement officer did the right thing

In the recent “Kungfu kick” video, many netizens must have seen that PMD rider’s blooded face and felt sorry for him. But let’s analyse the situation more objectively.

That PMD rider committed the following offences:

i) He was flagged to stop by the officers but he had refused to co-operate;
ii) He was not supposed to speed but he sped;
iii) He was supposed to ride safely and responsibly but he did not;
iv) He was supposed to stop at the traffic junction when the light was red, but he beat the red light;
v)  He had a machine that was oversized and overweight.

I do not condone violence. Had the enforcement officer used a stick or baton to swing at that speeding PMD rider, I would have called him out but he did not. He was doing his level best in those split-second circumstances and we really shouldn’t fault him.

Touch our hearts and ask ourselves: If we were there and carrying out similar enforcement work, would we have taken our jobs as seriously and as diligently as that officer? All other things that have happened subsequently, his injuries or even if the speedster had died, he brought it upon himself.

We must be brave even if it is unpopular to back our enforcement officers in situations where the potential loss of human lives is at stake. Given the way that PMD rider behaved, the likelihood that he will injure (or even kill) somebody is real. That somebody could very well be your loved one.

It is precisely due to weak PAP government’s leadership and weak effective enforcement efforts by the relevant authorities over the years that led to embolden reckless and irresponsible riding behavior among some PMD riders.

At the end of the day, we must not further allow or tolerate in the interest of our wider society.

    Unbeknownst to these E-scooter riders, they are already marked by the ‘community’. Everyday, when they’re doing their ‘stuffs’ somebody, somewhere is watching them. So the enforcement officers already know about this guy. Then come a day when opportunity knocks, some vehicle going in front of them going to stop abruptly and ??? IT HAPPENS MANY TIMES ALREADY, ONLY UNREPORTED!!

    No need for VIOLENCE especially from CERTIS(AUX POLICE?).
    Of course,i agree cannot condone WRONG-DOERS OR EVEN EVIL-DOERS like ATTACKING ONE’S NEIGHBOURS,MOLESTING N RAPING N HOOLIGANISH ACTS.

    BUT,what if the PMD-RIDER DIED?
    OR,the CERTIS HIMSELF got badly injured instead?
    There are other ways of nabbing offenders
    Even TEO SOH LUNG n others got nabbed for no apparent reasons???

    Why not offenders like this one?

    LTA should have some safety guidelines for enforcement officers. He should not kick a rider out of anger. Perhaps they could introduce the use of paintball gun to shoot. This is harmless. The rider will definitely have to stop to clean up. Face the facts that some riders are very ignorance (bo-chap or less educated). There are many laws changed overnight that we sometimes were not aware of until someone kenna it.

  • Faults on PMD. Removed!:

    “It is precisely due to the weak PAP government’s leadership and weak effective enforcement efforts by the relevant authorities over the years that led to embolden reckless and irresponsible riding behaviour among some PMD riders.”

    It seems that PMD riders encourage the government to totally ban riding on any pathways. A good strategy is to ban PMD to ensure pedestrian safety. If you allow PMD on pathway then any abuse can happen. It is a chicken and eggs things, what happen if an elderly accidentally push on the PMD rider when he can not balance his body and loss control, then who fault?

    The author put the blame on the government. It is unfair. The government did its portion. The redial action is to add more restriction on PMD on the pathway. It is understood.

    As for the officer, he got the right to ensure pedestrian safety but he is subjectivity forget about the rider safety. It is unethical for his approach. The disciplinary action will be taken for his negligence.

    At the end, who is a losing side? You know the answer.

    If we condone the officer’s action, we could also be consenting to police brutality. Enforcing the law does not include the right to endanger the life of another person or cause hurt to him/her. The purpose of the ban is to avoid accidents, not cause accidents! LOL!

    I am always very wary of this Simon Lim, because I always notice, at some crucial moment, he will write something way out of tune. I suggest you guys should be more careful and observe his writing too from now on.

    Here are my reasoning. For example, in response to his qualification;

    1) The officer stance was body back and leg up, ready to kick posture. Which means, he already had the first intention to kick the rider. This as LTA said, was not in the protocol. They are only suppose to record the riders offense and image.

    Why? Because the level of training and academic qualification for certis officers are not the same as Police, example administrative of laws. This incident is exactly why Specific Standard Protocols are set up for these lots of officers. You exactly do not want more beyond the law Public Injuries, fights or commotion when the force are supposed to Protect and Serve the Public in the first place. The law has been broken by the officer as he went beyond the Protocol.

    You see, Simon appears NOW to advocate a lawless “cowboy” society.

    2) What speed was he riding and simon would not be able to answer you. He is parroting what the papers say.

    Just because some of you feel that PMD riders are a nuisance, social outclass or losers and thus deserve to die…. I say, it does not means that you can go beyond the law and breaks the law yourselves.

    The PMD rider committed a “common offense” and should be issued with a fine. But he should continue to pursue for justice and sue for compensation accordingly. I suppose, this should be a responsible comment. As for the officer, the force is not a suitable place for him, for his safety and that of others.

    simon lim:
    i) He was flagged to stop by the officers but he had refused to co-operate;
    ii) He was not supposed to speed but he sped;
    iii) He was supposed to ride safely and responsibly but he did not;
    iv) He was supposed to stop at the traffic junction when the light was red, but he beat the red light;
    v) He had a machine that was oversized and overweight.

  • There you go, from today onwards, these Cisco/Certis officers can anyhow bruce lee kick liao, as long as no use revolvers or batons.

    And it is also okay for the offensive rider to be killed in the process because “he deserved it” never mind even if all his supposed offences are petty and minor. One accused dead no biggy issue, the officer can still go home and bonk his mistress shiok shiok, pretending that nothing has happened and comforting himself that he was merely discharging his duty.

    Same mentality as millionair millisters and head of these law enforcement agencies, simply brilliant! No wonder our leaders are paid millions!

    Simon should seriously consider standing in the coming GE as a candidate for PAP or at the very least, signup and head LTA, many Certis and Cisco officers sure sibei happy one.

    Oh and forget to add, even if PAP or LTA got no vacancy, can setup office and work as psychic, make big money forecasting what one would do in the future. (tic)

    Cars are driven at much higher speed than PMDs and some drivers also beat traffic light, speeding and avoid Traffic cops spot checks – so by the same logic, these offensive drivers also Traffic police can bruce lee kick? Die also never mind issit?

He will then go around and brag about how the police failed to catch him and this will encourage more riders to do the same. Afterall, unlike motorbike or car where you can trace them from the licence plate, what can you do to catch a PMD rider who did not comply to law, and refused to stop and then tried to escape?

    1. If you find that your logic is flawed just recognise that and move on, no need to proof that others is not right so that you are less wrong

    2. There is also no need to save a person by inflicting harm, arguing that i beat you up so that you know how to stay away from danger is a malicious doctrine

    3. If we have to chop off the hands of a thief to argue that this is to prevent him from larger crimes such as raping and murdering, then what are we?

    The way we act tells the way we think, the way we think dictate the way we do.

    If we say “i support democracy but we must be united” then it is as good as saying i want to eat fishball noodle without fishball or without tge rusk of getting choked by fishball.

    Ultimately we can agree to disagree – a gov must have limited power. And such power must be limited by parliament and parliament power limited by its people. And a separation of power of an independent Judiciary system that uphold and interpret laws.

    So funny one, how many of us understand this?

    2. You probably not living consciously.

    In history, before modern medicine or serum developed. Some unlucky person got bitten by a poisonous s*ake on the limbs. To save him / her. You chop off his inflicted limbs. Why ? To save life and thats 50 50 percent chance in the past.

    Fast forward to today.
    Someone collapse infront of you and his heart beat stopped. Immediately you administer CPR assuming you have been trained and nearby no electronic devices to help you. Theres probability you break his ribs. There are such cases. Even so and even if you are a doctor, nurse or medic. Still u continue on until theres a pulse. Why? To save life.

    You noticed serious diabetic patients without limbs. Why ? Because theres a wound and they never take care. Complications developed, no choice but to carry amputation. Why ? To save life.

    If a child unluckily contracted flesh eating virus on his / her fingers. If too complicated , his her fingers will be cut. Why ? To save life. I believe sg already a few cases.

    Sometimes a person contracted leg cancer also will have his her leg removed. Why? To save life.
    If its large intestine cancer, they will recommend whole intestine cut and removal to prevent relapse and spreading of cancer. Why ? To save life.

    In industrial, construction and even traffic accidents, inorder to save life . Amputation have to carry out on the spot. Why? To save life as their life signs are dropping fast and limited time to rush them to hospital. Several such cases in sg.

    Even you are not saving a person , you are enjoying sometimes you also unintentionally inflict harm. E.g. sports , perhaps u playing basketball with a bunch of friends. U may fall on each causing dislocation and even fracture.

    Even if you are enjoying a good meal with your friends or family. Harm will unexpectedly inflict you.
