Muhyiddin Yassin appointed 8th Prime Minister of Malaysia

Muhyiddin Yassin

Malay nationalist leader Muhyiddin Yassin has been appointed as the 8th Prime Minister of Malaysia.

The decision was made by Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah on Saturday (29 Feb), after he had concluded his interviews with 222 Members of Parliament.

Announcing his decision, the Sultan said 72-year-old Muhyiddin – Mahathir’s deputy in the Bersatu party – had the confidence of a majority of lawmakers, and hence is to be given the chance to form the next government.

The decision which is final, would mean that Anwar Ibrahim would no longer be the Prime Minister in-waiting while 94-year-old elder statesman Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s resignation would also be final.

However, the new Prime Minister can still be removed via a no-confidence motion if Muhyiddin is unable to command the confidence of parliament, which resumes on March 9.

The new Prime Minister would be sworn in on Sunday (1 Mar).

At least, and most importantly, the coalition did what it was supposed to do, it uncovered the corruption of 1MDB. The culprit and partner would be going to jail.

    Singapore oppositions can do likewise!!

  • REGIME CHANGE is the solution:

A blow to sg coalition ?:
A blow to sg coalition ?

A blow to opposition and opposition IB ?

On the contrary, this shows the value of having an effective opposition. It get rid of complacency and heavy-handedness of a very dominant party like the PAP. It will encourage greater openness and transparency as political parties compete with each other for support from voters. Effective opposition parties forces the government to listen to voters.

When PH won , my neighbor during lunch sesson said with the previous feud between Anwar and Dr M , will Anwar not come after M or M ‘s family after he ‘s PM ? Maybe not when M is still alive, but after M joins Lee ? Apparently Dr M has his concerns as well. Beside he dont have much time. Looks like my neighbor may have guess right.

    Not surprising

If one study Chinese history, most coalition or 結盟 only work well in the beginning when theres a common enemy. But always end up “face off”. 六國結盟共抗秦國 also end up badly with many backstabbing. 楚漢相爭, 三國孫劉共盟抗曹, ….國共抗日.

Its still premature and how the situation will evolved is anybody’s guess or nobody will correctly guess.

But currently as WP LTK who have formerly said 道不同不相為盟 might be true in this case.

Although too sudden and fast. Lets observe how things progress.

Personally i wonder Dr M ‘s action anything to do with his insisting in car making idea. Last year global car sales turn south and with covid19 issue probably will still stay South. So his car making idea probably will turn red or negative ? So he 甩鍋 ?

Is not Yassin Dr. M’s preferred successor even though he had promised to hand over the premiership to Anwar? If PH does not have enough seats in Parliament, the country should call for a fresh election and the newly elected govt will then choose the new PM. If PH still has the majority in Parliament, then Anwar should be the new PM as was previously agreed upon. Will Answar and his supporters pulled out of the coalition and cause PH to lose its majority in Parliament?

  • M tried to snook Anwar but got himself snooked in the end. Anwar die die have to back M because only then can he be PM.

At this stage, M who is a sly politician, would not take it lying down and is likely to table a no-confidence motion claiming its what the people wanted.

He is very likely to succeed which would see Malaysians going to the polls, but the result may not be what M would expect since the people already lost confidence in coalition.

This Anwar character as Education Minister from 1986 to 1991 was single handedly responsible for introducing the Islamic curriculum into the Malaysian school system based on the worldview of the political Islamist movement called The Muslim Brotherhood with links to radical Saudi Wahhabi sponsorship of World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY) of which Anwar was a trustee.

Henceforth the classical Malay understanding of the Prophet’s religion which is primarily grounded in one’s spiritual purification was being constantly challenged by their revolutionary Islamist beliefs – which eventually erupted as Al-Qaeda and ISIS radicalism.

KUALA LUMPUR – Former premier Mahathir Mohamad denied on Tuesday (March 3) that his resignation sparked Malaysia’s political crisis, while indicating that the saga is not yet over.

After two days of apparent calm following Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s swearing-in as prime minister on Sunday, the 94-year-old put up a short post on Facebook and his blog pushing back against allegations that his resignation set off last week’s unprecedented turmoil.

Implying that his supporters had betrayed him in front of the King, he said that he resigned last Monday (Feb 24) because he had lost the support of his allies.

“The Prime Minister alleged that the political crisis began when I, Mahathir Mohamad, resigned as prime minister,” he wrote referring to a televised speech by Mr Muhyiddin on Monday.

“Why would I resign for no reason? I, who was allegedly backed by the government parties and opposition, including (former PM) Najib Tun Razak and a few others who are currently undergoing trials for corruption charges? It doesn’t make sense.”

He added: “What is true is that I resigned because in the statements made before the King, I no longer had the support from my supporters. I did not have the majority and was no longer qualified to be prime minister.”Unquote.

Response :So it is clear from Dr M own statement that Dr M has no intention to resign as Prime Minister but bring forced to due to not enough majority support. However after he resign, then he probably found out that the other new Prime Minister also don’t have enough majority support too.
