Implementing a lockdown without calling it a lockdown

Basically, the Singapore government wants to implement a lockdown without calling it a lockdown.

These are the steps they seem to be taking:

(1) Encourage 100% of employers to implement telecommuting.

(2) If telecommuting can be successfully implemented by 100% of employers, they might then move to close schools.

(3) With the social distancing measures currently implemented, they hope society can still function (the buying of daily necessities, etc) without calling it a lockdown.

(4) Specific time slots are already given to the elderly and those at higher risk of COVID-19 infection to go to the supermarket for their daily necessities.

The furry of measures over the last few days to implement social distancing guidelines, 100% telecommuting and strict regulations and enforcement is therefore aimed at locking down Singapore while giving the semblance that life goes on.

In this sense, this is a phased and strategic manner at implementing a de facto lock down of Singapore (if I am correct to assume this) – perhaps to reduce panic (as some people have suggested).

If you are an employer who have school-going children and want schools to close, please start putting your employees on telecommuting now, so that Singapore can undergo a de facto lockdown, and ensure the social distancing measures can actually work.

I don’t know how this will work, but we will know in the next two weeks – after the stronger enforcement of telecommuting (and the assumption of the closing of schools after that). In any case, if you want a lock down to be implemented as soon as possible, start telecommuting, stop going out, to at least implement a bottom up lock down movement, since the government is unwilling to implement a top down one.

The only danger now is – will this phased-in lock down result in more community transmissions over the next few days/weeks? And will it pay off to delay the implementation a lock down, whether de facto or real, at the expense of more community transmissions?

The decision makers are taking a huge risk and gamble here.

  • pap is doing wrong thing:

when pap implemented Orange, pap did not close borders. this is a great mistake. imported many infected into pap Singapore.

later when Msia closed its borders, pap even paid to have the Msians stay in pap Singapore. another great mistake. imported even more infected into pap Singapore.

schools not closed. casinos not closed. with 3m local born and 3.9m aliens, as soon as one in each HDB block kenna without detection, the whole GRC kenna.

all these made worse by pap saying, wear mask only when kenna. but it takes up to 24 days for symptoms to show. so an infected person going to school going to casino going to ntuc infected many before finally showing even a single symptom.

  • PAPVID-20:

Did you notice that The Jinx has been so frequently talking and encouraging people on FB to wear mask recently? A change of tone from 2 months back when she was echoing and supporting her hubby and the other pappies, telling people not to wear mask unless unwell.

My guess is that with Razer’s manufacturing line ready to produce mask shortly, which means sg will have enough mask for everybody, the pap might very soon be asking people to wear mask, sick or no sick.

And what The Jinx boasted about ST Engg will be taken as just a fart which vanished in the wind. Poooo-ed and gone!

  • Mask:

“If you sick you then wear mask…
if you are not .. then dont wear”
    This saying is completely wrong
How can you let the people judge themself if they are sick .. or not
No one in position to say so
    … except the medical people
    MANDATORY:
Make everyone travel on public transport to wear mask
Public buses, Private Buses, School Buses, MRT, Taxi, Private Hire Car

She is trying to save the day for someone who had said, “wear mask only when you are unwell and when going to see doctor”.

Also this is a “money making opportunity”.

  • Harder Truths:

I have finally understood the plan – they want the older people to mati so they don’t have to pay all these subsidies.

This is the old man’s philosophy – kill off the weak and the strong survive. Import more strong from China / India.

At last it all makes sense.

  • Not only masks:

Singapore should not only produce masks here.
Better to produce all critical items also.like ventilators,PPE,medicine etc
Time to support our local companies to do it.
ST Enginnering and other GLC can take the lead.
It will also prevent a day when we can’t get our critical supply when every country is for itself and start stopping all critical export.
