Xia suay! If don’t wear mask likely don’t wash hands

Further to Covid-19: Double confirm, S’pore not in East Asia, an interesting way of looking at things by the Economist’s HK correspondent.

The failure to wear masks in countries where masks are de rigueur socially, indicates to those wearing masks that there are probably other hygiene failures by those who don’t wear masks. Doubtless Chan Kee Chui would call those who wear masks in these countries “Xia suay” and insist on his right not to wear a mask when he visits China.

Ordinary Hong Kongers are fed up with being told that the science behind mask-wearing is disputed. They look at neighbouring east Asian countries, where people wear masks routinely, and notice that they are coping with the disease relatively well. Many factors are at play. But the ubiquity of the mask is one reason. This not just because of its ability to block germs, or prevent people from touching their faces. It is also a means of building trust and fostering civic responsibility—a visible signal to fellow citizens that you are doing your bit to protect them and they should do theirs. If you won’t bother to wear a mask, who knows whether you bothered to wash your hands?

  • Use of Words:

The whole world of hospitals are testaments to the efficacy and usefulness of wearing masks.

So, despite what WHO has said , wearing a mask is a scientific truth that it is better than not wearing one.

So, WHO is a lost cause.

Their concern is mask shortage but they inadvertently could have confused the innocent and naive public that there is something wrong if you wear a mask.

WHO seems to be a political puppet.

    They should say it clear:
We discourage you from wearing masks which can indeed reduce your chances of infection because we are more concerned about stock shortage than your lives.

I am sure they wear masks themselves when it is necessary.

  • Do our part:

No that we have so many cases ,1000 Covid-19 cases.
    There is community spread.
Need to do more. Each one of us need to do our part and comply with the various recommendation.
If wear masks helps to reduce the spread,do so.
Time for our local companies produce the masks here and make it very affordably and easily available to everyone.
Better still Government should take the lead and make it free for the Citizen.

Yes, G should distribute free masks 2 per day per person for the next 6 months. It is economically more sound to prevent getting infected rather than all the billions $ spent.

  • Well said, bro. Agree:

I second you: Yes, G should distribute free masks 2 per day per person for the next 6 months. It is economically more sound to prevent getting infected rather than all the billions $ spent.

Even the coffee shop ah peks and ah sohs know paying S$m for fighter aircraft no use if money is not better spent in masks for citizens.

The pap giving 4 masks for a family of 7 is an utter joke. Because the mask use rule says once soiled cannot reuse. And for a family of 7, the other 3 go naked? Once kenna walk into every pap venue to make the point?

So in the end, the OPPO statement that pap folks all wasting sheep CPF money on the wrong things is true.

Mask, and 2xmask per citizen per day for 6 months is the true, and best, defence for Singapore.

Not that over priced fighter aircraft.
