Lawrence Wong’s reluctance to commit

When asked in a recent interview about possible lockdown, Lawrence Wong (LW) was very, very reluctant to commit answering when or under what circumstances will it trigger a lockdown.

I can imagine that if I were LW, I will face the silimar dilemma, however, there are certain aspects in our battle to tackle Covid-19 that I feel if I were in charge, I would have done better than LW.

One, I would not hesitate to haul people up and punish them sufficiently to demonstrate the government’s resolve and seriousness in enforcing safe-distancing and places where people most ignore social-distancing are places like coffee-shops and hawker centres etc. So far, government’s call for social-distancing has fallen on too many deaf ears in too many of those places.

Next, we must have the courage to expose and condemn high level stupidity, nevermind who espouses it in the larger interest and safety of our citizens. One such example is ‘no need to wear mask if you are not sick’.

Common sense is precious because it is in short supply. Wearing of mask when one is sick protects others and if one is not sick, wearing mask protects oneself. Is that so difficult for anybody to understand?

If the Covid-19 taskforce is not firm enough, has no bite or worse still, it dare not or doesn’t intend to come down hard on people who flagrantly ignore advisory maybe because the GE could be near, then we might as well kiss goodbye to staying on top of local transmission. Think.

all 4G OR WHATEVER’G’ dare not say anything unless ‘TOLD TO DO SO’ by their MENTOR.

LEEder himself must be the ONE to declare LOCK DOWN; otherwise any hint by anyone, the person will be whacked on his/her back-side like ‘KIDDIES’ who disobey.

lee ah long wants to flex his muscles still.

he is the KING AND HIS WORDS ARE FINAL.

  • LW:

@Simon. Is LW given the carte blanche that all plans & decisions originate from him? It is definitely very stressful if LW has to do “modifications” at every move. Then he becomes only a “maintenance programmer” no longer the “project manager”.

  • Pink Alert?:

Shy of calling it a “lock-down” they used a euphemism instead – applying the “circuit breaker” or “stricter measures”. Now, wearing masks is optional, schools will closed wef from next week. The U-turn is obvious. It’s a partial lock-down if not total because essential service employees still have to report for work; trains and buses are still in operation. After prolonged resistance to the Opposition and netizens’ call for wearing masks, lock-down and school closures, the 4G$ finally caved in. They are not calling for Red Alert yet, but getting close if the community spread is still not contained.

  • 可防可控:

We have been reminded many times, it’s under control. Even more assertive than the Chinese official’s “可防可控”. Now, comes a lockdown under the disguise of a “circuit breaker”.

Situation is “under control” only if there are no new clusters and new cases, and the daily numbers start to fall. New cases and clusters are still popping up here and there.

Whatever restrictive measure is proposed, important is to get it done.
Make sure of compliance or it will not be effective.
This virus kills,no time for nonsense.
Lets all do our part and support the measures fully.
We need to prevent further community spread quickly.Lives matter even if old.

While the virus is something not to be taken lightly, people should not be overly paranoid. Sometimes, people may move aa little closer than the prescribed 1 meter due to crowds, but there’s no need to get irritated, annoyed or get nasty.

He is LG NCM who assured the taxis that they are not affected by Uber & Grab but are taking home “extra 5% income from fuel savings”, whatever that means !!? His whole team should be sacked years ago.

@Simon; you are wrong to say that, the govt had given a very confusing call for “safe-distancing”. Why only in hawker centres and other places but not in public transport? Why not even when queuing at the bus terminal?
