GE2020 shows us that we need less ‘Indian Chief’ opposition parties around

* Take Note Only Contested Seats are Counted.

Since 2011 all seats have been contested. But from 2006 and prior, only the contested seats determined the % of votes.

So if the Reform Party and Red Dot United did not run, and Jurong, AMK and Radin Mas were walkovers, the PAP mandate would only be 58.7%

It would be even less, if People’s Voice and PPP did not contest Mountbatten and Macpherson.

Lee Hsien Loong can still proudly say strong mandate because these parties allowed him to. No PAP Prime Minister has had any vote share below 60%. It should have happened this time.

It’s not about giving them a walkover, what’s the point if the contest only serves their purpose to justify their support? I dare say if a stronger opposition party had contested these areas, they would have still lost but their percentage would have been in the mid 30% or higher and that would also have brought the winning percentage for the PAP below 60%.

So Tolonglah Opposition Parties, stop trying to be Indian Chiefs and boosting your own self inflated egos. Become activists, become NGOs, but stay away from polling. Stop insulting us with your mediocre performances.

And no to you combining either. Your entry will not help the Worker’s Party, PSP or SDP. Instead you can become ordinary members of these parties and help them in the groundwork. Or become bloggers.

  • Errr… so by the writer’s logic, if ONLY ONE WP had contested in Hougang SMC, Aljunied GRC and Sengkang GRC, then the PAP would get only 40%+ mandate?

  • Mistaken lah:

    This guy is so mistaken.

We need every seat contested. The % vote doesn’t matter. What is important is the number of MPs.

RP is doing everyone a great service. By keeping LHL busy in AMK, he can’t go other constituencies to support others. Just look at BB by-election, all the PAP MPs and ministers got nothing to do, they go support their candidate in BB.

So, a big thank you to all the alternative party candidates! Just try to avoid 3-party fights.

YES, THE WRITER’s LOGIC IS FLAWED for many reasons. You need to keep the flame of opposition politic smouldering to raise awareness of what is fundamentally wrong and rotting of PAPpypolitics/PAPpynomics. Blackbox research showed that only 8% of the Baby Boomers and beyond reached out to social media for election information read.

    http://theindependent.sg/psp-largely-responsible-for-drop-in-votes-for-pap-blackbox-research/

PAPpypolitics would be cunning enough to exploit this vulnerability to add-on to its prolonged enduring brainwashing of this mob of goondu voters through PAPpy News Publishing. Such delusion of deception would include advocacy of “don’t need opposition representation in the political zoo, we guarantee 12 Non-Constituency MP opportunities” and these 92% of dummy Baby Boomers would STUPIDLY AND HAPPILY “sucked it up”.

And the outcome is NIGHTMARE for the rest of voters of PAPpypolitics clean sweep in 2020 at a time when R. Menon, warned

Singapore’s economic situation is ‘dire’ as global coronavirus resurgence looms, central bank says

    https://www.cnbc.com/2020/07/16/singapore-economy-still-dire-amid-global-resurgence-in-coronavirus-mas-says.html

Even Blackbox research conclusion is equally DUMBFARKED with this confounding conclusion

Blackbox Research : While the WP decided to concentrate its efforts in a limited number of familiar battlegrounds, the PSP competed far more widely and its ability to capture 10% of the overall vote, despite not winning a seat, is largely responsible for the PAP’s vote decline in 2020

    http://theindependent.sg/psp-largely-responsible-for-drop-in-votes-for-pap-blackbox-research/

How this ILLOGIC be true or make sense at all?

If PSP does not engage in voting challenge or does not exists in GE 2020, how do Blackbox research knows a collective union of smaller parties might contest all (otherwise uncontested) seats, just capture 10% of the votes and STILL BRING DOWN PAPpypolitic votes count down by the same 10% decline?

IT IS CLOSED MIND LINEAR THINKING INVENTING FLAWED CONCLUSIONS.

KJ and Lim Tean might not have won seats but their contributions by physical presence at critical juncture are immense in informing voters awareness of dire economic mismanagement of PAPpypolitics and voters have to wake up to the reality and consequences of their choices.

THE LOGIC OF THIS ARTICLE WRITER IS DEAD WRONG.

  • Best parties are WP and PSP:

    Yes and No.

We went to MacPherson polling station.

Opened the ballot paper. Only 2 parties. WP was not there like in the previous GE2015.

We went to ask how come only 2 parties? how come no WP? no answer. the reply was, yah, just 2 parties.

    So what do we do?

We marked Goh Meng Seng although we do not know him and have not even seen him in the 40 years we lived there.

So, YES, all OPPOs such as RP NSP and so on MUST disband.

So, NO, if we are against pap, we vote OPPO even if it is elephant monkey or Goh Meng Seng.

  • Tremendous:

The smaller groups are valuable. They are all people of hearts coming forward. Remember, only the group from the village chief are out to have smooth sailing elections, good fundings and cushy parli seats. If they get equal footing as oppo villagers on resources, they will be reduced to nothing not in five years, but one. Oppo villagers are hard to come by.
As for Easting Coastal, sorry to say. The village chief in waiting should have garnered higher than average votes round any part of the village since he has been earmarked to head the whole village. No excuse to say his votes dropped due to last minute switch and his unforgettable speech. Simply shows the support wasn’t there. Only idiots will say otherwise.
As for the village chief saying the results weren’t as good as he hope for, it clearly showed he was even out of touch after the election.

  • SGP:

I can understand the writer’s rationale.

Since non-contested seats are not counted, the weaker Opposition parties should not contest just for the sake of contesting all seats as the PAP will score high in % votes. Likewise if Opposition parties like WP,PSP,SDP are strong contestants, PAP candidates’ win will be reduced. Overall win by PAP will be moderated!

Hope PV, RP, PPP, RDU, NSP, SDA, SPP will do some soul-searching!

Best is to have these 3 strong Opposition Parties to contest all seats to deny PAP the two-thirds majority in Parliament!

The smaller opposition parties KNOW they aren’t going to get into parliament, they aren’t stupid. What they are there for is not to let PAP have a walkover in their various wards that they are contesting, they even said so back in 2011.

By locking down all those monkeys in their own backyards you prevent them from going around and helping their fellow monkeys in other wards, this is the true purpose of the smaller opposition parties. Even WP cannot gather enough people to contest half the parliament seats nor SDP nor PSP.

What we should be hoping for is for WP, SDP and PSP to get stronger so that they have a better chance of winning East and West Coast GRCs in the next GE. You can say sayonara to those SMCs which barely scraped by just like those in 2015, they will be absorbed into GRCs for sure.

This election has shown that even without Singfirst there were no walkovers. If the 3 strongest opposition parties could contest 55% of parliament seats and win them all then PAP would receive such a shock that the current donkeys would never recover from.

    Reply:

No. It is just one of the basis, not a strong basis, nor the only basis. The paramount consideration is ‘absolute obedience’ and ‘unquestionable loyalty to the First Family. There should not even have an iota of doubt or suspicion. That person must be like the hunchback slave of Count Dracula.

Reported on Straits Times website :Quote – “..
    Dominic Low… (July 19)

{Today finally the FWMOMcare app is updated & showed that our FW had taken his swab test on 22 June 2020. He watapp us on 13 July 2020 saying that he received a SMS from Ministry of Health, Singapore at 8.30am that he was tested POSITIVE for COVID-19. Immediately we informed the dormitory operator and was told that they cannot do anything and need to wait for MOH arrangement.
We called MOH at 6325 9220 almost everyday since Monday but till now nothing was arranged and the infected worker is still staying in the SAME room with the rest of the 11 workers. 1st day when we called, MOH mentioned that they need 24hrs to arrange for the infected worker to be transported out of the room.. So we waited and after 24hrs on 14 July 2020 morning, our worker updated that he did not receive any call or update from MOH & Dormitory side. NO isolation was done. So we called up the dormitory manager and spoke to him and same reply, cannot do anything and need to wait for MOH. Again we called MOH, this time we were lucky as the staff sounded to be very helpful and took them all the details of the infected worker and dormitory address. She even called and updated me at 1555hrs from this nos 68336088 that Task Force will take over this case and will liaise directly with the dormitory… So we called up the manager to alert and update him on this. Thinking all had been arranged with the agency and dormitory management. But to-date,15 July 2020, nothing was arranged and nothing was communicated among MOH, Task Force and dormitory. So we called MOH and was redirected to the MOH emergency hotline at 1800 – 333 9999 and most shocking and unbelievable part was staff said that there was no record in their system that we called before at all… So all these while, who am I talking to???

Please, you go read up about “Leader of the Opposition”, in UK, Australia and Canada.

PAP has been butchering our Parliament by doing away with the “Leader of the Opposition” position, for so many decades until citizens very blur.

Dont think its suitable moment until A SOLID OPPO SIDE truly appears in FORM?

WP,with 10 MPs will be a waste of resources.
We need MORE DECENT NUMBER OF OPPO MPs to effect a worthy LEADER OF OPPOSITION,me opines.
All 3 countries,UK,Australus and Canada have decent number of OPPO MPs in place?

    No proper comparison until then?
Only PAP will benefit from alternative ideas to make use of?

    There are too many parties.

The 3 corner in PRP was very unccessary.

Now since PV lost their deposits there, it’s causes PV to be firmly planted in the same league as RP, SDA etc

Please focus on the 3 serious opposition party, i.e WP, PSP, SDP. There are just too many small Indian chiefs here.

  • @Doggie

    Precisely my thoughts.

I think what the writer is suggesting is that these smaller fly-by-night Indian chiefs should either quit politics or join bigger political parties instead of surfacing only during GE to gajiao gajiao.

It is easier to device a strategy if all are in the same camp instead of having to give way and give face to these fly-by-nighters with absolutely no chance of winning.

Again I state my belief. If Macpherson had been contested by Nicole Seah from WP, Kate Spade would have been beaten or at the very least, she would never have been able to pull off such huge vote shares.
