A look at Singapore through unblinkled eyes

There is a perceptible euphoria in the air not unlikely created by the People’s Action Party (PAP) leadership following their lacklustre performance in the general election in order to boost their flagging stature.

It is the acme of irony that top PAP politicians who pay themselves millions of dollars from taxpayers’ money to consider themselves people servers but equally ironical that there are considerable guillible Singaporeans who believe them. On top of this you have the prime minister’s wife Ho Ching whose probably enormous salary as CEO of Temasek Holdings remains a state secret.

That there is a voters’ swing towards the opposition, especially the Workers’ Party, is a severe slap to PM Lee Hsien Loong and the PAP leadership which could not have escaped the psyche of PM Lee and his sidekicks and could have sent a warning to them that it could be a precursor of some revolutionary changes to the political landscape of Singapore in the future.

The dynamic performance of the Workers’ Party in the GE must have put them in a state of acute pessimism as the WP will be like a tornado even in their dream as their Nemesis. On the other hand the voters have shown very clearly that they have been satiated by the guiles of the PAP for too long and have reduced the political standing of their ministers, even PM Lee himself, by reducing the percentage of their votes rendering them as caricatures of their former selves. They even dispatched an eminent minister in Sengkang in the hustings.

PM Lee could not have been so myopic as not to be able to see the writing on the wall. So he and his deflated ministers are now working desperately to regain the confidence of the voters by making unprecedented promises to ameliorate the livelihood of Singaporeans.

Whether this will go down well with Singaporeans will depend on whether the pledges will be just a perfunctory exercise or a genuine effort to improve the livelihood of Singaporeans. Even the PAP mouthpiece President has thrown in her lot to call upon the people to support the new PAP government. It will be interesting to watch how the promises will evolve from now on.

It is a good omen for Singapore that a large number of Singaporeans are more politically conscious of their inherent inheritance of their inborn endowment to decide on their own destiny.

    FOR TOO LONG AND IN OPEN CONTEMPTUOUS DISPLAY of its hegemony abuse, PAPpypolitics were engaged in

    - we do what we like, never mind what the people think before advancing to the next of

    - we do what is convenient, never mind what the law says.

    PAPpypolitics totally ignores the reality that every decision leads to further decision of/from the decision-maker or those affected by that decision.

    Decisions have follow-on consequences and feedback consequences for all including themselves and the YOUNGER GENERATIONS including the millennials have woken up.

    No more gutter politics and no POFMA pimping around – we kick ar*es in the ballot boxes COME WHAT PANDEMIC SPREAD – never mind what you think or preach of your manifesto b*llshiting or your election lolly in train.

    And if you don’t deliver the economic cake, don’t show up in the next election waiting for coronation.

    The voting electorate is not a blank piece of paper you can paint whatever picture your like.

    Trouble with arrogant people is they dont know they are stupid.
    And,even if they know,they are too thick skinned to acknowledge.

    Always blaming this and that for their incapabilities or negligences,which are many!

    But you get even more stupid voters to cote for the stupid ones.

    This country is in need of OVER-HAUL.

  • opposition dude:

    PAP will just continue to talk and wayang since they already gave up on us Singaporeans years ago.

    When you are letting in foreign labour to the tune of over a million of them it tells you all without saying so from their mouths. How many times have we told them that there are too many aliens on the island already? Just how many? And yet do they listen? Nope, they just keep letting these people in as the years go by and we now have a 5.81 million population.

    They will tell us all the same few excuses a year or 2 from now. It will be that there aren’t enough Singaporeans for the jobs, a mismatch, we need to reskill/retrain etc.

    Don’t care about them lah. Let us put our faith in the opposition parties and vote even more of them into parliament in the next election.

    The author’s view will sound reasonable and even right/agreeable to most on the opposition camp and those who buy into some sort of political balance in parliament.

    I am probably one of the rare few who believe the problem first lies with the people(already set in their drives) and then a government who seeks the people’s approval at all costs(part of the democratic political process) is an absolute disastrous political concept.

    At this point, most are not mindful what “approval by the people”(where votes are harnessed) entails and the government/ leadership created to satisfy their wanton lusts(base instinct).

    Then the other political extreme( to counter the former problems) where the government decides what is good for society(such as the CCP in China).

    Both of these systems are constantly at war either for lawlessness or breaching human rights, to the destruction of the masses and our environment.

    At the end of the day, if the human conditions don’t improve, everything good created under the sun will come to nought especially when we fight(each other) to climb up the food chain(chasing the almighty dollar) and ladder of political/social power in the global market place.

    The human conditions will not change because it will be and shall be exploited by the elites who favour the gospel of prosperity(the people too)

    Do you see any of your political leaders(including the opposition) denouncing prosperity ? No.

    Even the Communist understands the power of prosperity in relation to political power and sovereignty.

    So don’t kid yourself because you can’t stop the consequences of the worldly wise.

    Not until they acknowledge…

    “In the last days the mountain of the LORD’s TEMPLE will be established as chief among the mountains; it will be raised above the hills, and all NATIONS will stream to it.”

    And you can forget about religion showing you the way because they are also another deluded lot, blind leading the blind.

  • Let them aspire who will....:

    A True Ntural Aristocracy is not a separate interest in the state, nor separable from it. It is an essential integral part of any large body rightly constituted. It is formed out of a class of legitimate presumptions, which taken as generalities, must be admitted for actual truths, namely:

    To be bred in a place of estimation; to see nothing low and sordid from one’s infancy; to be taught to respect one’s self; to be habituated to the censorial inspection of the public eye; to look early to public opinion; to stand upon such elevated ground as to be enabled to take a large view of the wide-spread and infinitely diversified combinations of men and affairs in a large society;

    to have leisure to read, to reflect, to converse;

    to be enabled to draw the court and attention of the wise and learned wherever they are to be found; to be habituated in armies to command and to obey; to be taught to despise danger in the pursuit of honor and duty; to be formed to the greatest degree of vigilance, foresight and circumspection, in a state of things in which no fault is committed with impunity, and the slightest mistakes draw on the most ruinous consequence;

    to be led to a guarded and regulated conduct, from a sense that you are considered as an instructor of your fellow-citizens in their highest concerns, and that you act as a reconciler between God and man;

    to be employed as an administrator of law and justice, and to be thereby amongst the first benefactors to mankind;
    to be a professor of high science, or of liberal and ingenuous art;

    to be amongst rich traders, who from their success are presumed to have sharp and vigorous understandings, and to possess the virtues of diligence, order, constancy, and regularity, and to have cultivated an habitual regard to commutative justice;

    This are these the circumstances of men, that form what I should call a Natural Aristocracy, without which there is no Nation.
