Pro bono lawyers

The other lawyer who has done this – doing pro bono work for 3 or 4 years to save a client – is Ravi MRavi who took on the case of Yong Vui Kong and ran a campaign to save him from death row.

More than 10 years later, Vui Kong – then 19-years old – is alive today.

Singapore’s Misuse of Drugs Act is a flawed piece of legislation, which contains numerous presumption provisions, putting the burden of proof on the accused, which make it hard – almost impossible – for someone to prove his innocence.

A flawed system depends on the courage, and goodwill of lawyers like M Ravi and Anil Balchandani to get justice for those vulnerable.

But the system should not “work” this way.

  • Honestly, I fail to see why the bother to save Yong Vui Kong 10 years ago, so that he can suffer, rot and die in prison.

Can Yong Vui Kong ever be released on a life-sentence?

On my current illness, which may “explode” on me any day, I explicitly told my wife to not save me and let me go should it is determined by the doctors that if I am saved, I would either be in a paralysed state or I would lose my memory and not remember anything. Pointless for me to go on living like this.

    What do you think?

  • Harder Truths:

The burden of proof rests with the government in a democratic society, based on justice and equality.

However in a Communist State you are given a choice of confessing now or confessing later after torture. Whether you are guilty or not is not the issue. If they say you did it you did it. LML’s maid was lucky to have this judge review her appeal. Next time even this loophole will be closed.

However, if someone was found guilty in a real court of law for trafficking or distributing drugs they should hang. No need to shed a tear for this kind of evildoers.

  • Why is SIA so pro-alien?:

Straits Times: Half of SIA’s over 400 trainee pilots and cabin crew let go, the rest will leave after completing training

“Those who had to abort their training are mainly foreigners.”

    ————

WTF was SIA hiring so many foreigners for training. Why did it not hire Singaporeans?

  • HSK talking cock Again:

Asia a bright spot and what countries need to do to build a resilient future: DPM Heng Swee Keat

Singaporeans cannot build a resilient future (recover quickly) because of PAP’s pro-alien policies that saw thousands of Singaporean PMETs lost their ob to “cheap” (no CPF) foreigners.

As long as the job market is tilted in favor of foreigners (with CPF exemption) Singaporean PMETs will continue to lose their job to foreigners.

    HSK is full of crap.

  • Long Live M Ravi:

M Ravi is a true blue Singaporean. We all should be very proud of his contributions to humanity.

He is the only one in Singapore today who can take the President or the PM to court to clarify on Constitution matters.

I still remember the case he did for Cleaner Velamah for Hougang to have a By Election. He question PM’s decision to delay the By-election and won the case.

There are many more cases M Ravi has taken up, especially for convicted drug offenders to give them a second chance to live. Some of them maybe be executed without proper lawyer representation.

Long Live Ravi and his service to humanity and Singaporeans.
