More costly for Singapore to not implement minimum wage

Another way the PAP misdirects the conversation.

The pay for a basic job that needs doing in Singapore should have nothing to do with the number of people able to do it, the skill required to do or any other factor than it needs doing and there should be a minimum level of pay to survive in the place it needs doing… Period.

You can apply the skill, scarcity etc conversation to the higher level jobs so don’t confuse the issue.
You cannot have the most expensive city in the world and treat the needed workforce like they were living in mud huts with little costs to live there.

If you can’t automate or eliminate the job or get more value from one person through productivity measures then you should rightly pay a living wage and accept it as the basic cost/profit equation for the person who needs to do it..

Until we enforce a minimum level living wage we will continue with poor productivity, growing wealth gaps, corporate welfare policies through the back door like workfare and continued breakdown of civil society and the attendant ever increasing costs to stop it falling apart altogether.

A basic living wage gives stability, security, self reliance, self respect and a base from which those who want to or are able to can build from while removing the negative burdens of poverty from the nation.
In fact NOT having a minimum living wage is far far more costly to Singapore as a whole than having one…

… and many in the world are seeing this more clearly….

.. It seems only the vested interests benefiting from the current flawed system continue to fight for their privilege at everyone else’s expense…

It’s time we had unselfish leadership and a broader and more holistic thinking on this issue and no more narrow private profit driven narratives or excuses more reminiscent of the workhouses and similar of the industrial revolution.

Singapore is a country not a company and deserves better…

It’s 2020 not 1820!

  • Loveless elitism & greedy:

I am not sure exactly what heaven will be like, but I know that when we die and it comes time for God to judge us, He will not ask, ‘How many good things have you done in your life?’ rather He will ask, ‘How much love did you put into what you did?

  • Prince and Pauper:

The Poor will enter Heaven without much questioning as they had endured the severity of the Test.

The Rich will be questioned on how they acquired their wealth and what they did with such abundance.

  • Pap has the mandate:

I used to think Singapore worker median Salary is a big deal until I work in a real first world country that it only took me a week to make the same amount. I never return to work in Singapore……LOL

  • Harder Truths:

Bullshit. Go back to fundamentals and stop trying to rig the economy. Protect locals and the problem solves. Trying to short-cut always leads to disaster, especially from ‘scholars’ who think they are all Warren Buffet or Donald Trump.

  • Truth:

    “The poor will enter heaven….”

    “Blessed are the meek….”

Such phrases were the construct of the elite class back in the old days.
Give them hope… give them solace… and not to fight back.
When a 3rd party is introduced, the focus on work loads, conditions is lost.

Elites know how to manipulate thinking. It is an art perfected through centuries in Assyrians, Romans, Chinese… all over the world by humans.

$1300pm is not too much to ask .Pay lah.
Can’t even survive with that in expensive Singapore.
Suggest reduce all the Minister pay to 1300 pm and lry them experience the hardship .
Need to learn empathy…now too much out of touch with the people suffering.

How much this bloke earns per month besides his MP ALLOWANCE OF $16K?
WHY NOT he propose to cut MP ALLOWANCE TO $1K?

DIAM DIAM ONLY when comes to OWN$elve$ PAY AND PAY OWN$elve$,ya?

Btw, when H$K raided our sgs’ reserves and give $600 to RESERVES-builders but give more than $1300 to NON-sgFTs , why he diam diam?

But what he says about INCREASING WAGES FOR NO INCREASE IN OUTPUT IS TRUE.
THE PAPple underperform but keep increasing their own salaries???

This, according to this bloke’s argument, applies to himself n all the expensive PAPple and is UNSTAINABLE!

  • MATI TASK FORCE:

PAP issue of a minimum wage is nothing more than :

    LOSING FACE
    LOSING VOTE

    LOSS OF FACE :
PAP gets into a hysterical fit if seen as picking up any good suggestion from another opposition party.

    LOSS OF VOTE :
PAP is fearful of losing more votes if opposition party is credited for their win policy.
It will signal the voters that a stronger opposition will give a needed muscle to change the PAP.

  • The longest runway to Hell....:

(It’s time we had unselfish leadership and a broader and more holistic thinking on this issue and no more narrow private profit driven narratives or excuses more reminiscent of the workhouses and similar of the industrial revolution.)

So Singapore’s massively infected foreign workers dormitories reminds us of the poor workhouses of the previous century. These selfish and greedy rulers will tax the employer $1050/mth for a single unskilled laborer who’s paid just $20/day. They call it “a levy to discourage” Singapore employers from opting to not employ Singaporeans for the job! Seriously… we’re not kidding!
A free-riding gomen gotten damned rich gobbling up profits of bonafide businessmen and the blood and sweat of toiling human fellowmen.
