When ‘Big Brother’ Isn’T Scary Enough

I read Zuboff’s book “The Age of Surveillance Capitalism” which includes much of what is in my opinion piece. And to go by my fictional world, I’m hoping for a zombie apocalypse some time in the near future. I want it to happen while I still have the sudden burst of energy to smash some of our zombie politicians’ heads!

The rise of surveillance capitalism over the last two decades went largely unchallenged. Being in a “Surveillance Society” is just one element of concern. The other is knowing that as a population we’re easily herded and influenced via social media, by illicit or anonymous interest groups and state players, which leverage the data from various surveillance resources to play to our fears and prejudices.

The surveillance gains them knowledge of us; the other enables them to operationalize those insights by leveraging our collective, passive willingness to be driven to do what’s useful for the forces behind the screen by pushing our ‘behavioral’ buttons.

No one wants our government to become Big Brother and there is no legitimate reason for the government to collect data on its citizens beyond essential identification. What’s even scarier about these systems is that they will run more and more autonomously through AI, with little human oversight. Whereas once God supposedly controlled our fates, now we have algorithms determining our social worth, potential, and threat.

The Big Machine will find you a slot, and stuff you in it whether you fit or not, where you will languish for the rest of your life. The only ones who will escape this fate are those in control, who have backdoor access to burnish their reputations, erase their debts, and do the same for all their family members.

Come to think of it, that is a lot of information and the government should collect, store and use it efficiently. Much (not all) of it should even be a part of the public record, readily available to anyone. Perhaps the danger of public databases lies in abuse for non-government purposes rather than simply having the data. Private databases are a different animal and they raise questions about both individual and organizational freedom. The policy challenge is to protect the freedom to collect and use private data while holding all to damages for harms caused by misuse.

The most important, I think, is to understand that both the creation of these ‘tools’ and the interactions that we have with them. They reflect the determination of those who have created them, along with our own as we use them. The effectiveness that are part of these digital ‘tools’ have the potential to establish a ‘scientific dictatorship’ where a population came to embrace its’ servitude through various mechanisms of mind control that shaped attitudes and reactions.

The only responsibility that we hold today is to make sure that we do not leave the world in a state of such ruin that the next generation will not be able to resuscitate it…who knows?

Because of that, we have to gain an understanding of what norms we take up and place into our everyday lives. What formed them? Why are they so important? Are they a given? In other words, one has to be more self-reflective on why we do what we do.

Just read ’1984′ by George Orwell, which is the most definitive book you will ever need to read on the subject.

It is not well known that Orwell had connections to many CIA, MI6 and other such services that gave him their plans for their control experiments. Orwell did not write fiction, just the future.

I am 99% sure once the US Federal Reserve introduces the US digital currency called FedCoin to replace the US dollar, $G will not be very far behind. China is already testing the digital yuan.

In a few short years the anonymity and safety of physical cash will be gone. There will be no escape this time.

EVEN WITH CASH PAYMENT IN GEYLANG CHICKEN FARMS, it is still VERY DANGEROUS – the trace together token will show “proof” of “illegal assembly” law violation every time these “old uncles” get healthy “busy” and “active”.

Decades ago, MAS actually tracked the credit card expenses of executives in the finance industry charging entertainment expenses and found out that a very large proportion were linked to establishments in the “night life” setting.

It was cash and carry since just like grocery supermarket shopping soon after.

    HILARIOUS.

    @ Harder Truths

China is testing its digital Yuan, but I doubt the Fed will go that way.

The US is NOT GOING to surrender its global currency convertibility. Emerging economies will be stuck with worthless US dollar. Nobody will accept US dollar for payment because CONGRESS WILL SIMPLY print digital coin to pay for escalating budget deficit.

US is living beyond its means and this is funded out of foreigners accepting/taking US dollar to pay for their exports surplus and use their balance of payment surplus to pay for their investment in US Treasuries and listed equities. At the moment, the US dollar is falling reflecting the budget blowout and Fed monetary excesses of artificially depressed interest rate.

Who is going to buy US Treasury on lower and lower disappearing return when the value of that investment is going to vaporize to nothing – EXCEPT WHEN THEY ARE GIVEN A MASSIVE DISCOUNT, LIKE NOW, of the falling value of USD?

Who is going to accept USD if it is going to digital of no value of those USD now in circulation in foreigner’s hands??

Congress/US Fed knows that sooner or later, the US dollar is going the pathway of falling values to lower and lower.

CASH WILL STILL BE AROUND – debit card is poisonous toxic for the elderly in particular of risks.

IF IT IS NOT, HOW COME LEE-jiapore-INDIA BANK don’t underwrite first $500K of risks loss on THEIR FORCIBLY IMPOSED on customers their debit card forcing Ah Pek and Ah Mah to risks loss even the FIRST $100 FROM DIGITAL SCAM hackering in internet banking??

DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY IS THE RAPE of peasantry and a tool of oppression of the rich and powerful establishment.

Haven’t you all noticed this? Business have been sending out financial statements without signature, shifting the onus of “proof” that these statements are correct without hidden charges and manipulations.

IN OTHER WORDS, they shifted the accounting record keep and financial accountability to the customers. The customer is thus “employed without pay” of course, to be the accounting clerk of the banker.

And by that SCAM route – like the DEBIT CARDs from financial institutions, they “piggyback” all financial losses of their flaw in digital security (if hacked by criminals lurking in the cyber thugs world) on to their customers.

ALL THE DIRTY BANKERS HAVE TO SAY – if financial losses suffered by customers due to hacking of the flawed internet architecture of the bank – is that YOU THE CUSTOMER IN POSSESSION OF THE ONE-TIME PASSWORD (OPT) TOKEN is responsible for your account protection.

The OTP might never have been ever used at all. The OTP was sent out free of charge to CUSTOMERS WITHOUT THEIR CONSENT OR ASKING.

HOW RIDICULOUS CAN FALSE JUSTIFICATION BE?

What does MAS has to say about this?

In Australia, any financial notification or advice sent to customers under the bank’s/financial institutions’ letterhead is DEEMED IN COMMON LAW APPLICATION AS SIGNED DOCUMENT binding on the sender party.

IN LEE-jiapore WHY IS THE LAW SILENT ON THIS when banking token can be send out to customers ON LETTER HEAD BUT WITHOUT SIGNATURE?

isn’t technology in “smart nation” a tool to rape peasants ignorant of their law rights?

Reported on CNA website :Quote -”SINGAPORE: The chief editor of The Online Citizen (TOC) website went to trial on Monday (Oct 26) along with a man accused of writing a defamatory article for the platform, alleging corruption in the Singapore Cabinet.

The trial opened proper after previous failed attempts by lawyer M Ravi to refer the case to the High Court instead…..

TOC founder Xu Yuanchen, 38, better known as Terry, is contesting one charge of defaming members of the Cabinet by publishing the defamatory article on Sep 4, 2018.

The article was sent in to TOC under the name Willy Sum, but Xu’s co-accused Daniel De Costa Augustin, 37, is said to be the real writer of the piece, which alleged “corruption at the highest echelons”.

De Costa, who is represented by Mr Ravi, was given one charge of criminal defamation and a second charge of unauthorised access to Mr Willy’s email account to send the article to TOC.

According to an agreed statement of facts that both the prosecution and the accused settled on, De Costa sent an email titled “PAP MP apologises to SDP” to [email protected] from an Internet cafe in Chinatown on Sep 4, 2018….

He intended that the contents of the email would be published on the TOC website.

On the same day, Xu approved the publication of the email sent to TOC from a person named Willy Sum, titled “The Take Away From Seah Kian Ping’s Facebook Post”. Mr Seah’s name was misspelt.

The allegedly defamatory article said “we have seen multiple policy and foreign screw-ups, tampering of the Constitution, corruption at the highest echelons and apparent lack of respect from foreign powers ever since the demise of founding father Lee Kuan Yew”.

After the article was published, the then Info-communications and Media Development Authority lodged a police report and then-Senior Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Home Affairs Amrin Amin said the allegations were “serious” and could not be taken lightly…..”Unquote .

Response : Seem like Straits Times has no coverage of such case in progress ? The trial started two days back but Straits Times isn’t reporting ?What about TR Emeritus ?

Mod: The trial was short and sweet and Ms Teo Soh Lung has a short write-up on her Facebook page. TRE is in contact with Daniel and Ravi, but Terry is ignoring us, so there is nothing TRE can write about that would differ with Ms Teo’s version.

I find it strange that lawyer M Ravi had allowed the joint trial of the 2 accused and not seek to separate the trial and ask for individual trials and seek to push Terry’s trial back till at least Daniel’s trial is concluded.

Even though both accused are charged under the same offence arising from somewhat similar circumstances, but they are technically different in nature and would benefit and be fairer to Terry more if the trial were split.

Terry’s offence is the result of Daniel’s action and he would be guilty only if Daniel is found guilty. If Daniel is acquitted, then Terry has no case to answer since there would be no offense to talk of.

Plainly put, it is only logical that the prosecution has to convict Daniel to convict Terry. Since the matter started with the article that Daniel wrote, the article has to be defamatory in nature and the battle should rightly be focussed on that.

Under the current situation, once Daniel has been found guilty by the court, Terry is as good as guilty and has no room to move anymore, imagine under the same court, same judge, how can whatever defense Terry may put up be easily “absorbed” by the judge after he/she has decided that the article is indeed defamatory?

As for Daniel’s 2nd charge, I think its a freak charge thrown in by the prosecution just to “weigh” Daniel down and hope that he “take a certain course” which he did not.

Picture this: A allowed (gave permission) B to sleep with his wife and then finally decides to report B for rape (unnatural sex) 10 years later when suddenly it is realised that B has been taking his wife from behind? Was there a written agreement that says his wife’s behind is a strictly no entry zone to B?

    What do you think?
