Dec 31, 2011 We thank Mr Leong for his letter “More light on social assistance figures needed” (Dec 26). Mr Leong referred to the increase in calls on social services to the ComCare Call hotline from 2008 to 2010, and commented that the trend seemed odd when viewed against other MCYS survey findings and statistics on beneficiaries... 

The trial in the defamation case of Lee Hsien Loong v Leong Sze Hian ended yesterday. Now it is for the lawyers to make written submissions and for the judge to hear oral arguments on 30 November at 230pm. The trial judge Justice Aedit Abdullah gave directions to counsel for both parties on what he would like them to address...
