Why Singapore Should not host the World Economic Forum

I read with disappointment, even disdain, that the Singapore government would be hosting the World Economic Forum (WEF) in 2021. The reason is as such – the “Great Reset” the WEF is coming up with, and how it will radically shape lives, not necessarily for the better, with at least part of their agenda laid out on Singaporean soil. These are what’s part of the “Great Reset” and how it is harmful for Singapore’s and the world’s economy.

1. De-carbonising the Energy Sector and Other “Green” Measures

As laid out in this op-ed here (LINK) on the WEF’s own website, one of the ways the world’s economy can be “reset” is through adopting the European Green New Deal, as called by Greenpeace International’s Jennifer Morgan in the op-ed. One of the policies called for in the European Green New Deal is the de-carbonising of the energy sector, as seen here (LINK). I think we all recall that when the WP’s Dr Jamus Lim filed a parliamentary question on an environmental tax on Singapore Airlines’ “flight to nowhere”, Transport Minister Ong Ye Kung argued against it, saying that it would kill of Singapore Airlines. I actually agree with this argument. And going along with the lines of this argument, adopting the radical environmentalist policy of the European Green New Deal would:

1) kill jobs on Jurong Island,

2) kill many jobs in the petrochemical sector, possibly skyrocketing electricity costs (given how expensive it is to install solar panels, especially on a massive scale, and the unreliability of wind and solar sources of electricity),

3) hurt the airline industry in ways worst that the current coronavirus crisis did and cause pollution on a global scale with detrimental effects to human health and the environment, when solar panels take the place of fossil fuels, especially when heavy chemicals are released into the environment in the manufacture and disposal of these panels. In this article here by National Geographic (LINK), it is mentioned that the information on the effects of environmental pollution by solar cells is still unclear. Greenpeace’s Jennifer Morgan’s proposal is not a fringe one – it was actually raised in a WEF dialogue session this year itself. As pointed out here (LINK), European Green Deal policies are already hurting the livelihoods of those reliant on coal, including those in neighbouring Indonesia. The question is, do we want to be complicit in killing the livelihoods of thousands or more at the very least by allowing the WEF to come to our shores to plan their agenda?

2. The “Great Reset” and “Stakeholder Capitalism”

In an op-ed here (LINK) that is written in collaboration with Project Syndicate, what is called for in “stakeholder capitalism” is this – requiring issues such as “climate change”, “water management” and “environmental stewardship”, just to name a few, as bottom lines, and fiduciary duties by companies and corporations on a global scale. In short, these green issues are to be made enforceable through legal mechanisms and means on a worldwide level. The implications could be this – companies and businesses being forced to implement means that reduce the productivity of workers, such as reduced work hours, in order to reduce the company’s “carbon footprint”, which would in ways or other increase costs of living and operations and could serve as a potential way to shut down small businesses.

If the economic aspect of stakeholder capitalism is bad enough, corporations and organisations are required, legally, through the “Great Reset” agenda to go woke. As laid out in this op-ed here (LINK), organisations are required to “bring people of minority communities” into the center and “build their power”. This could potentially mean forcing faith-based organisations to directly undertake actions that violate their teachings, values and creeds, especially those that do not subscribe to homosexuality and the LGBT movement and act against their consciences. It could compromise the freedom to adhere to and follow one’s faith and religious belief, a tenet in our society that we value. This is why Singapore should never host the WEF – part of its “Great Reset” agenda involves implementation of policies that run against the ethos of racial and religious harmony that we hold onto.

3. The “Great Reset” – Communism on a Global Scale

In an op-ed titled “8 Predictions for the World in 2030” (LINK), again on the WEF’s website, its very first prediction is that of people no longer owning everything. It is more than just a prediction – the WEF did a video on this which they put at the bottom of their page, and these “predictions” were put up by the WEF’s Global Future Council, with one of its stated mission to inform the strategic initiatives of the WEF (LINK). This means that the “I own nothing” prediction is more than just a prediction. It could potentially be a plan which the WEF could potentially try to force onto the world at a global level. The “I own nothing” vision is not social democracy. Rather, it is communism. Marx called for it in The Communist Manifesto. In the Russian Revolution, the Bolsheviks passed a decree called “Decree on Land” that abolished all ownership of private property. The attempts by the Bolsheviks to do so have led to the massacres of tens of thousands and the imprisonment of many others, also in the tens of thousands, in concentration camps, the most disastrous of which were Stalin’s policies in the Ukraine and those against the kulaks. “I own nothing” in North Korea has also seen agricultural outputs persistently confiscated by the state, leading to perpetual famine, as seen here (LINK). The WEF’s “I own nothing” agenda is very much a form of communism and that is why Singapore should not host the WEF as it is akin to allowing a summit by the Communist International to take place on Singaporean soil.

As such, the Singapore government should not be hosting the WEF and I call on readers to sign this petition here (LINK) calling on the government to not host the WEF in 2021 in view of its “Great Reset” agenda and not to adopt any of the policies in the “Great Reset”.

  • The sky is falling down:

Either the writer misunderstands or purposely twists the ideas.

Take the idea of “owning nothing”.
The example given in the WEF links include this: you don’t own a car, not by police enforcement, but by economic sense. In that envisioned future, you can call any time and very cheaply for a driverless car to go anywhere. So, no point paying expensively to own a car that you use 2 hours a day.

This “own nothing” idea has nothing to do with communism. In fact, it can be very big capitalism. Some big corporations may be owning those driverless cars that people rent.

It is already happening in big capitalist countries. For example, we don’t own Microsoft office. We rent yearly. Wouldn’t it be nice to just rent daily or hourly cheaply? Most people’s Microsoft office are just sitting there most of the time un-used.

Finally, “own nothing” also means people must own lots of money to pay for services. People still need to slave to earn money to pay the big capitalists. How is this considered communist?

All this applies to other countries who have people with something to lose. Does not apply to our Slave Nation where you do not have any rights, do not own anything and are third class below FT and MIW.

We awaken by asking the right questions. We awaken when we see knowledge being spread about that goes against our own personal experiences. We awaken when we see popular opinion being wrong but accepted as being right, and what is right being pushed as being wrong. We awaken by seeking answers in corners that are not popular. And we awaken by turning on the light inside when everything outside feels dark. Even as time passes along, each soul is losing something of itself unless he finds true faith and does good, seeking out truth and persevering in the just cause.

Then you should check out the video at the bottom of the “8 Predictions in 2030″ op-ed. If indeed it is as what you claimed, then why is it the WEF in that video put in the line that “you won’t own anything, whatever you want, you’ll rent”? Sorry, but this is what communism is – abolishment of private property. That this is something the WEF envisions and puts in a video makes their agenda and plans a dangerous one.

Full self-driving cars are a big media/Tesla hype.

The sky is falling down: his “own nothing” idea …….. In fact, it can be very big capitalism. Some big corporations may be owning those driverless cars that people rent.

    Why???

: At least seven people died in Tesla crashes this year involving Autopilot, according to news reports. Since 2016 there have been at least 13 crashes involving 16 fatalities in which Autopilot was engaged. That doesn’t mean an Autopilot malfunction or misuse of the system caused each of those crashes. But safety investigators have linked a number of deaths with the system, including “overreliance” by drivers who might think it’s safer than it is………

Vox called Autopilot “deadly.” Axios described Tesla drivers as “guinea pigs.” Safety experts say federal rules should limit the use of Autopilot to highways without cross traffic, similar to a limitation GM imposes on its Super Cruise system. Tesla didn’t respond to our questions for this story, but it has previously insisted Autopilot is safe on a much broader set of roads.

The danger is that people are hands off in auto-pilot driving BUSY MAKING LOVE…..and then the crash to die in excited ecstacy.

ME THINKS THE AUTHOR OF THIS ARTICLE IS at least partially correct.

    The simple reason?

When you are the “HOST” speaking up the “RESET”, you “own” the agenda and outcome.

The golden rule of deception in communication are these -

IF YOU MUST LIE, be brief, vague and pander to superficiality and

IF YOU CAUGHT LYING, stay silent of not responding.

Which is why this politically explosive green revolution reset can’t and won’t be hosted in US, Australia, China, Canada or EU. Not even in Russia!!

oxygen: The danger is that people are hands off in auto-pilot driving BUSY MAKING LOVE…..and then the crash to die in excited ecstacy.

I am neither defending nor attacking the “own nothing” vision. If one wants to attack that, then attack it for what it is (as Oxygen is doing) instead of saying illogically that it is communism. Then, because communism is bad, then “own nothing” is bad. This is not good reasoning.

To continue with the car example, we already have cheaper alternatives to owning a car, e.g. uber, taxi, car rental, sharing, etc. The vision is saying that such alternatives will become so cheap and easily available that there is no need to own cars. Nobody now is screaming that uber or car sharing is communism.

mike: Do you mind explaining the definition of communism in your own words?
Keep it short and sweet. I don’t mind if it is long too.

Mike, if you want to call uber or car sharing a form of communism, go ahead. Most Singaporeans don’t own cars. So, does that make non-car owners communists and car owners capitalists?

If anyone wants to criticise the “own nothing” vision, go ahead. I will likely agree with you. But please don’t call it communism, and because communism is bad, own nothing is bad. As I said in the earlier post, “own nothing” means you need to own lots of money to pay for all the services. They are not freely provided by Ah Kong money. Neither capitalist nor communist countries provide free taxi to everyone.

Then you should rewatch the video at the end of the page of WEF’s “8 Projections for 2030” op-ed. The video explicitly envisions a future where “you’ll own nothing, and you’ll own everything”. Sorry, but that’s the kind of thing that belongs to North Korea and the former USSR. No one owns anything, everything is pooled. Mind you, even for Uber/Grab, people still own their cars.

Even if one still gets to keep their money, “You’ll own nothing, you’ll rent everything” is still communistic at heart an in spirit, and these has implications in the physical sphere/realm.

@ The sky is falling down

    Thank you for clarifying.

On the same example of ‘car sharing’, i will go on further to elaborate. Just note that what i am saying below is not about rebutting or to convince anyone:

Why do we need car sharing? To my understanding, the answer is simple, cost/time and there are problems to be fixed. That could be the first phase reasons.

The later question will be: can the problem really be fixed? My rude answer is: never. It only get worse, just a matter of time until another reset. But for the start, the sharing deal is sweet for those who barely can afford but wants the conveniences which limited money can buy in exchange for another limitation — time.

‘When one owns nothing, one pays for everything!’ Money is a mean, not the solution. Just imagine this, the licencing of grab increase 10-folds in 10 years, by owning nothing, do we have choice? Really? When this buys that at the top of the food chain, choices becomes illusion. Anyway, that’s how capitalism works around the need to monopolize.

What happens when all of us only uses electric vehicle (not just cars)? When the dear gov increases the charges to produce kW energy to juice those vehicles, what are our options? Now my cost increased? If i can afford, i buy two, one for charging! Oh no, sharing would be better…

Thanks god (i neither believe nor not believe in religion) or anything i could, that I have the privilege to live beyond the city nation. When we bring the distance between two, we see prosperity. Covid had kept us apart and we can see that in the economic result. How far can electric vehicle goes? How about transporting load of durians 600km away? What about you are being forced to use electric cars while the durian trucks are burning fossils? Save the fxxking earth when we cannot even save our rice bowl!

Pardon me, the characters available does not permits me to write an essay and i do not wish to bore people with my spelling errors too. >.=”

One last thing: Capitalism needs competitions, or else, its just ends with communism will be called differently.

    The sky is falling down:
Mike, if you want to call uber or car sharing a form of communism, go ahead. Most Singaporeans don’t own cars. So, does that make non-car owners communists and car owners capitalists?

The other part of your Uber analogy being a flawed, even false one – for Uber/Grab, customers/consumers have a choice whether they want to own a car or use Grab/Uber’s services. But for the WEF’s “I own nothing, you’ll rent everything”, they are envisioning a future where you won’t be able to exercise your of choice on what you want to own. In one way or another, that’s what that envisioning leads to.

    @ democracyissooverrated:

I BELIEVE YOU MISSED THE REALITY from the substance. Autocracy is steep to impossibility of cover-up of failures, incompetence and bewilderment. They gain power via deception by appearance of public consent with actual public consent

Just look at how Lee-jiapore GRC distort election outcome with fake concern for minority representation leaving exhausted voters no choice but tolerating this chicanery in exasperation and over in the US the extreme lunacy in which Trump, the Republican Party attempted to overturn US presidential election outcome using Texas as the fodder to alleged no evidence-supplied election frauds in other states which the US Supreme Court punched him in the face with this retort.

US Supreme Court : Texas has not demonstrated a judicially cognizable interest in the manner in which another state conducts its elections,”

In other words, the outcome effect is this – The Supreme Court has rejected a suit from the Texas attorney general — backed by the Trump campaign as well as 126 Republican members of Congress — to overturn the 2020 election by nixing the results in four key swing states.

Supreme Court rejects Republicans’ last ditch attempt to undo election results and give Trump the presidency

    https://sg.yahoo.com/news/supreme-court-rejects-republicans-last-234701412.html

DEMOCRACY IS MUCH BETTER – it encourage questioning of fake authority, illusions of power without consent contrasting with autocracy hell-bent on stifling curiosity, learning, development, creativity, innovation, risk-taking and enterpreneurialship.

If we continue on the same trajectory of authoritarianism, it is the end of LEE-jiapore’s survival as a nation as I can see it.

ON MATTER OF WEF due in May, I see a far bigger SECURITY RISKS AND COSTS OF STAGING this event.

It is no longer a kid’s play of staging the meeting of Rocket Man making love to Dotard which costs us $15 million. There could be thousands of VVIPs needing protection and their entourage support.

The costs maybe runs into hundreds of millions, maybe billions.

    WHO IS CONTRIBUTING?

May is cool autumn in Sydney. Great time for outdoor for VVIP delegates BUT SYDNEY WON’T PUT UP ITS HANDS TO VOLUNTEER AS WORTHY HOST.

I AM ASKING WHY – besides the pandemic risks spreading, quarantining and Stay-at-home imposition which all these VVIP won’t give us TWO FARKS of enforcement obedience.
