Digital subscription for Straits Times at $9.90 per month

I saw an advertisement for digital subscription to the Straits Times at $9.90 per month.

My immediate reaction was – at last. SPH has now got the right business model. At $9.90 per month, I am willing to subscribe to the online platform and read the local news.

Previously, they offered a low subscription for 3 months and revert to a subscription of $60 or $90 a month. That is too high. I refused to subscribe to this kind of bait.

There was a link to read the Terms and Conditions. It was a very, very long document. After reading a few pages, I gave up. I did not want to subscribe to onerous terms and conditions.

SPH has, once again, turned me off.

This seems to be a bad habit among Singapore managers. They really know how to turn off their customers with impractical, unnecessary and onerous requirements.

Agree a lot of businesses turn people off with their practises. I was forcibly reminded yesterday how some shops don’t deserve any business.

So much free content and you even think of subscribing?

I was turned off in the subscription of ST many years back due to their onerous T&C; when I highlighted one of the T&C which gave them the right to continue subscription after a year of “special deal” to be mutually deleted – they said it is not possible – either take it or leave it. So I took the latter!

Frankly I wish to take the special deal oonly for one year, period.

As the good people of TRE know, I only buy Saturday edition for my puppy.
Enough toilet paper for picking up doggie poo for one whole week.

The only real use for Sh*t Times that publishes sh*t is to be used to collect sh*t.

I must be an idiot to pay to read PAP’s propaganda.

Those journalists working in SPH are not true journalist, they just write what the PAP like to hear. They don’t even ask question, hard or soft!!

They did not asked questions like how an Indian can be a Malay overnight.

They did not asked why Chinese MPs used GRCs to enter parliament.

They did not ask where to vaccinate for Covid 19, when Ministers and the President asked people to be inoculated. No “when”, “how” or “where”!!!

They did not ask MP Tin Kate Spade how each Singaporean get $23,225 per person!!

Even if SPH paid me $9.90 per month, I would not want to read the paper.

I’m surprised you still trust Shitty Times.

Shitty Times is the propaganda arm of the PAP. Many have boycotted it as a result.

Shitty Times seems to be dominated by expats and they seem to be pushing the agenda of their home countries.

    Shitty Times is in ICU.

In today’s SHITTY TIMES, its editorial says “GST cannot be put off indefinitely “.

ST is the propaganda arm of the PAP.

Whether its COE, ERP, water tariffs hikes, attacks on opposition leaders and now GST, ST is used as a weapon and media tool by the PAP.

Even if ST offers it free to me I’ll won’t want.

    Seriously.

There’s so much news content online why pay to read especially ST?

states times, mediacorpse, anything run by pap appointees, all are the same, viz., utter fail.

    mediacorpse.

pap says it is free of charge.

    how pap lies.

where got free? payment to mediacorpse watching pap poorly produced programs are charged by the currency designated as TIME.

since everyone whether pap or otherwise all have the same TIME counted as 24hours x 60 mins per hour x 60 seconds per min, only pap goondos waste their time with mediacorpse.

These days outlets at supermarkets, petrol stations, 7-11 stock only a few copies. Biggest buyers are Govt offices and schools.

Even coffee shops refuse to stock Shitty Times.

Few are interested in their local and expat writers to be frank.

None of them dare to offer their frank opinions. They toe the line and praise the Emperor’s new clothes all the time.

Together with their cronies and supporters for gains they always paint a positive picture

    Makes me cringe.

  • Lucky Tan:

Lucky for Tan that he took the safer road of not subscribing. At $9.99, the T&C definitely allows ST to continue subscription for ten years at $99.99. There should be a clause to allow ST to change price any time, right?

Tan’s post confirms how bad the 158th is. Even a multi-millionaire finds the normal subscription price too high. Any subscriber who is not a millionaire better take the hint and cancel their subscription.

Desperate times call for desperate measures ah ha ha ha ha ha! With their circulation and advertising revenue going down some 20 odd percent quarter after quarter the online subscriptions most definitely aren’t covering up for the loss.

People share their subscriptions with other family members freely so it’s one subscription for 2 or more families to read ha ha ha ha ha.

I’m waiting to see just how low the print editions can go before it stabilises. Who knows, maybe just 1000 copies a day nia!

WA HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH!!!!

TECHNOLOGY IN SMART NATION is used cunningly by Govt and BIG business to BAIT-AND-SWITCH to the detriment of trusting peasants.

It is misleading advertising, in violation of “fair trading” laws and LEE-jiapore is very relaxed off its consumer protection laws.

One telecom services provider even attempt to seduce a customer with bargain deals telling him that he need not proceed with “sweetheart” deal offer on expiry of one year and still keeps the bargain for the rest.

    IT IS A FARKING LIE.

    Why?

    VERY SIMPLE.

Contracts are NOT DIVISIBLE at the election and whim of either party.

If it can, why don’t employer gives me a high pay job, I will collect my pay at month end and decide to leave only if I got the farking sack BUT I STILL KEEP MY PAY UNTIL TERMINATION DATE. That is to say, my pay is different and separate from my job!

But there are still stupid Ah Seng, Ah Lian and Siquina who bite the bait – hook, line and sinker.
