Kranji woodland was cleared by mistake?

I read with bewilderment that Kranji woodland was cleared by mistake; NParks investigating. ( ST 17 February 21, page B3).

I take strong issue with the way the news was presented in the Straits Times. “..a JTC spokesman said that the land was erroneously cleared by its contractor before the completion of environmental assessments’.

Erroneously cleared by the contractor? Wow!

ST further reported that “NParks is investigating the unauthorised clearing of the site”. “We take a serious view of unauthorised greenery clearance and will not be hesitated to take the appropriate enforcement action”- NParks.

I welcome NPark’s investigation into the destruction of the 70ha woodland. Until the investigations are completed and its findings are make public, we don’t know for sure what, where, why, who and which have gone wrong but I do know a few things.

I know that contractors are not a bunch of eat full nothing to do people. Contractors who were involved in the Kranji woodland clearance job must have been awarded the job and taken instructions from certain government bodies/agencies to do the job and were paid for their efforts and services.

Moreover, such clearance job wasn’t a one week or two weeks project. It is totally reasonable to assume that there were serious lapses of communications or at best, miscommunications between or among the various government agencies and bodies that have resulted in the vast woodland being destroyed.

Even though NParks now says that it is investigating, it still cannot absolve itself from its failure too. It has been sleeping all those times when Kranji woodland was been stripped bare then until only now, it has awaken.

It is good that this fiasco in the pap government is not covered up or strongly argued, defended and wriggled away by the relevant authorities but made public. I applaud the pap government for its transparency in this matter.

Now that this news have “picha lobang”, I hope that those responsible and their superiors are appropriately dealt with and not push and push the blames and faults away to some junior people to shoulder and senior people got away scot-free again or employ their No Blame Culure grandmother story again. By the way, JTC comes under Ministry of Trade and Industry.

Such green lungs are very precious national assets contributing in their own quiet ways to mitigating global warming and generate oxygen in our little island and to the benefits of all its inhabitants. It takes decades and decades to nurture such vast, collection of national greenery and woodland and it is now gone.

Think.

  • Harder Truths:

Very soon we will hear ” Since it is already done, no point wasting a good opportunity. Let’s build condos and private units for 1 million more foreigners.”

Hahahahaha – what a joke. This land land clearing could NOT be given without permission from at least 3 different organisations – URA, NParks and JTC. Now everyone acting blur. Typical regime response.

  • At this rate:

With the gov sleeping, one day, mindef will issue a statement that they are investigating. After Singapore had been invaded and taken over for days.

On the other hand, Singapore had been taken over for years.

1942 – taken over by armed invaders.

2021 – long taken over by unarmed invaders. Let’s face it. When you “the natives” become a small minority in your country, you have lost your country.

    OK, mistake!

    But by whom?
And what is the punishment to be meted out to the respective persons, entities?

Should we punish the Prime Minister for sleeping on the job?

Wait for PAP ministerial statement to declare they’re are innocent.
They don’t wish for it to happen but it did. So lets move on, nothing to see here.

Just look at the past 15months & list down all the screw up that PAP had committed.
It’s staggering & must be a huge concern of Singaporeans.

How can a group of self-praise self-paid PAP ministers who declared themselves as the best of the best & yet be so incompetent & of such poor quality.

Hope Singaporeans who voted PAP should start to open your ears & eyes & for some even their brains to make an objective assessment of the PAP government.

The blames & all faults & responsibility lie on LHL.

You paid yourself & your followers a lot, it’s only fair that Singaporeans expect a lot in return.

  • PAP derelict in duty:

Wow this is the most classic example of the derelict of duty by the PAP ball kickers.

How to blame? Because of PAP no blame culture – therefore any PAP or PAP related mistakes are exonerated because of this No Blame Culture which encourage risk taking we were told.

  • PAP failed AGAIN:

Straits Times: Woman killed by falling tree in Marsiling Park; last inspection by NParks in April 2020

Stupidity AGAIN.   This has happened so many times.   NParks never learns.
It is not just the health of the trees that is important but also their height and foliage.   Healthy tall trees can also fall over in strong winds.  The tree that fell was 20m tall with a lot of branches (and leaves) that offer resistance to strong winds.

Tall trees that can fall over on park footpaths should have been linked together to other tall trees nearby with strong steel cable at 10m height to prevent (or at least slow it down) them from falling over.  Money is not a problem if NParks can spend $1B for Gardens by the Bay.   There is more than enough money in the public sector in Singapore but there is an acute shortage of “brains”.

If this happened in the US,  the family of the victim would likely be instant millionaires.   The threat of expensive litigation makes people, companies and government agencies more careful because they can be held accountable.   Sadly, there is no accountability in the public sector in Singapore.  That is why stupid mistakes are made so often.   Another reason why Singapore is not a real First World country.

NParks Commissioner said the tree was “last inspected in April last year” but NParks said it was “last inspected in September 2016″.   Was it inspected at all?    The journalist who reported this should be sacked for not clarifying the discrepancy.  Shortage of brains again.  This time is a GLC.

In Singapore it is “safer and healthier” to walk in a mall or along Orchard Road than in a park run by the government (run by PAP).  Uniquely (Stupid) Singapore!

Woodlands’ woodland clearing mistake is just a microco$m of the many LAP$ES of govt ministries and their agencie$.

The govt $quanders relentlessly and recllessly and squeeze impoverished CITIZENS,to cover the $quandering.

    This is unbecoming n irresponsible.
The $100 Billion has not been applied to achieve the intended effects as MANY SGS are still jobless(unemployed n under-employed).

A huge portion goes to $aving Jobs FTs robbed from sgs with the help of PAP FT POLICY.

$600 GRANT TO RESERVES-ACCUMULATORS,THE MANY JOBLESS sg- PMETs, is simply spiteful as many non-nation building FTs are getting much more!

If i were a high-salaried FT/PR,why would i bother to take up Sg Citizenship when ,as non-sg FT,i gain much more???

  • Blame PAP:

Straits Times: Woman killed by falling tree in Marsiling Park was wearing noise-cancelling earbuds

This is ridiculous. Why blame the victim for PAP’s stupidity and incompetence. She was wearing noise-cancelling earbuds because she thought she would be safe walking in a park. She would be if PAP run the government and its agencies properly. A fatal assumption.

BTW, what is the cause of death of the ACS student who died at SAFRA premises at Yishun? The safety harness prevented him from falling to his death but he, nonetheless, died in hospital the following day. Why? SAFRA President is the Minister of State for Defense and the Chairman is the Defense Minister. There are ultimately responsible and accountable for what happens at SAFRA premises. There should be NO COVER UP on this tragic death. Singaporeans must know the WHOLE truth.

  • PM LHL is a FAILURE:

Since the “rot starts at the head” PM LHL is ultimately responsible for this fiasco. His response is “silence” as usual.

This is another compelling proof that there is no accountability under PAP. It is a “spent force”. It should be buried with the arrogant, ruthless and always self-serving LKY.

But that is exactly what will happen. We saw how it was when Mas Selamat escaped, when HB lifts were faulty and when 1.5 million patient records along with HIV records were stolen. Out comes denial and blame conveniently shifted to their contractors or low rank personel.

Accountability is not the PAP way, only talking cock is. They still have the silly thinking that they are never in the wrong and will always blame someone else or something else but never, ever themselves.

So just wait for another nicely written report that squarely blames the contractor who then gets fined and barred from future projects. No minister will be sacked since, hey, it’s not the minister’s fault as usual.

Woman killed in falling tree incident is an act of god.

This clearly prove even you dont vaccinate due to fear of side effects u also be deliver to god in another way.

Why blame tis and tat ?

And why need to have music when one jogged ?
I jogged weekly and i dont need music.

Ridiciously IPPT 2.4km test run around also have music . Is it
Rocky 3 or 4 ? Inorder to pass need to have music ? Might as well as have machine guns / guns firing sounds behind or fire blanks behind to make them run. Release train dogs that will bark furiously but will not bite to chase them.

Kranji woodland was cleared by mistake? Such a big piece of land cleared by mistake ? Where got mistake one ? Even though I am never in construction tree clearing industry ,however before clearing any plot of land ,I am very sure it is standard practise that there is permission like permits paper need to be issued .Permission from authority need to be granted by NParks before land forests can be cleared ! So how can there be any mistake .Maybe the trees are cut down to be used as material for manufacturing those paper type of mask filters ,who knows ? One thing is certain that clearing of this piece of land is approved by some authority ! No big shop approval signature, nobody dare to cut down any tree !
