Leong Sze Hian raises the full $133,000 on Easter Sunday

The people of Singapore are paying $133000 to the prime minister of Singapore. It is our hard earned wages and savings.

To sue a politician is bad enough. To sue an ordinary citizen is worse. And to sue a writer like Leong Sze Hian for sharing an article without comment is beyond … I don’t know how to describe.

  • SUE & SUE ASSOCIATES:

Some high profile politicians really have nothing better to do but to sue and sue in order to fix critics and silence the lambs. It’s pure intimidation, instilling fear in society.

All in the name of saving reputation? Such could be well regarded as an ill-repute; a pyrrhic act, to be precise. One gains victory only to receive unending backlashes from the public; leading to his meteoric downfall.

To borow one ‘politician’s popular phrase: Aidonowattusay!

    Singaporeans are outraged that
    1) the laws are twisted for intimation and harassment.
    2) double standards for locals and foreigners – local sue, foreign source no balls to sue.
    3) double standards – one for the white devils and their elite cronies and another for the local minions.

  • Dr Tan Tai Wei:

It’s basically unwise political posturing. Presumably, you don’t trust the people’s maturity enough to relinquish overseeing the judiciary and separate yourself and your administration from the judiciary. Then you have to reassure the people that your powers over the judiciary would not affect at all the course of justice. And so it would only be politically prudent not yourself to use your judicial underlings to sue your critics in cases where you could, by engaging in dialogue with them, enhance the great benefit of democracy in terms of contributing to the people’s education. This would be constructive politics.

It’s utterly unbelievable how many millions of dollars singaporeans have been paying to a …. not only stupid but super stupid LEEder.

He sued an ordinary singaporean for defamation but look! Who is actually the one damaging his own reputation when the case has now made international news? Ownself damage ownself!

Mr Leong’s sharing of the post actually did no harm bcoz majority singaporeans and international media do not follow him. But now it’s the silly small man himself who has made the world become aware of the article and worse, know of his bullying of an ordinary citizen!

No wonder other countries leaders are often trying to take advantage of sg with their trade agreements (like CECA) bcoz they know how stupid sg’s LEEder is and have little respect for him.

Very soon PAP will introduce a bill to curb crowdfunding. PAP’s aim is to make sure the people they sue go bankrupt so as not to challenge the system.

Wait for awhile until digital currency replaces cash. You can only pay anyone if the regime allows you to. That means any entity, including the opposition carrying out any activity requiring donations will be required to get a license or the digital currency cannot be transferred to them. It is coming soon. watch for it.

How about caning? It cannot be crowd-funded?

Or court awards million in damages making it difficult to fully crowdfund.

When crowd funding succeeds the judicial system also “lost”, not only the PM.

PM wins in Court but still “loses” and gets humiliated big-time. He is indeed a FAILURE.

  • While I hope that Terry would win, but we all know that is impossible. However, it would be comforting to know that unlike Leong, Terry need not crowdfund as a famiLEE member would be footing his bills.

The plaintiff had asked for $400k, but I don’t think the judge would award that much as the late LKY’s reputation was around $200k to $400k max, so no reason for this Lee’s reputation to be more expensive than that Lee. Most probably another $150k or so, peanuts to the famiLEE member that would be footing his bills.

Anyway, back to Mr Leong, he still has around $200k in legal fees to worry about, would there be another round of crowdfunding, I wonder.

Singapore — A Facebook post has emerged claiming that Mr Lee Hsien Yang, brother of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, donated money to Mr Leong Sze Hian to cover damages awarded to PM Lee in a defamation case.

Singapore’s High Court on March 24 ordered Mr Leong to pay S$133,000 to PM Lee for posting a link to a Malaysian news site that alleged the city-state’s leader had helped launder 1Malaysia Development Berhad funds.

Since then more than 2,000 people have donated to a crowdfunding campaign on social media to raise the full amount, Mr Lim Tean, Leong’s attorney, announced on Facebook on Monday (Apr 5).

In a Facebook post, one netizen claimed that the younger Mr Lee donated money during the 11 days that Mr Leong had been raising funds to pay the damages.

On Sunday (Apr 4), Mr Leong shared on Facebook that he had raised S$133,082 from over 2,000 people in his crowdfunding campaign.

Among the donors were former opposition leader Mr Chiam See Tong and his wife, Mrs Lina Chiam. Within a day, Mr Leong raised S$20,000 from 340 people. The single highest amount he received was S$5000.

    What Initially Happened

The defamation suit revolved around a Facebook post that Mr Leong had shared on his wall.

The post alleged PM Lee’s involvement in the 1MDB corruption scandal, and in helping former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak launder money.

It was flagged by IMDA after three days and Mr Leong promptly removed the post.

However, the defamation suit took place after PM Lee claimed that Mr Leong’s sharing the post without verifying the information was damaging to him.

The judge awarded S$100,000 in general damages and $33,000 in aggravated damages. /TISG….”Unquote.
