A case of the pot calling the kettle black

It’s a case of the pot calling the kettle black.

On the one hand, the Chinese man feels strongly against an Indian man courting a woman of his race, ie, Chinese. On the other hand, many people, supposedly the majority, as well as the government, feel strongly against the Chinese man for his racist instincts.

But did the Chinese man harm the supposed victim? All he did was tell him that the Chinese don’t like him courting a Chinese girl, and he showed great restraint in expressing an opinion he obviously feel strongly about.

However, the Indian man, in posting the video and calling on netizens to make the Chinese man “famous”, has done the latter harm. For one, the Chinese man’s reputation has taken a beating, he will be subjected to public scrutiny and condemnation and finally, he may lose his job.

So, who is the victim here?

I am all for inter-racial relationships, but I would not condemn a person who is against it. Live and let live, after all, he only spoke his mind and did not hurt anyone. If the Indian man did not like what he heard, he could give the Chinese man a piece of his mind and walk off; end of story.

The Chinese man is not tolerant, but neither is the Indian man, as well as all who condemn or take action against the Chinese man.

Being free to voice our opinion is a fundamental human right. I am not saying spreading lies or verbally bullying or taunting someone, I am saying we should all be free to express our opinions. And if we believe in that, then we should believe in that especially if someone expresses an opinion that is deeply offensive to us. Otherwise, we are just hypocrites.

You usually make sense, but not this time.

The Chinese man has no right to accost that couple to tell them his views about something none of his business. If he thought his view was so correct he should have no problem with the notoriety he has been given with the video, and neither should you. If harm was done to him, he earned it. These kind of people should be be exposed. My only sympathy for him is that he may have a mental health issue. Even worse, he is a lecturer in s state institution.

I also suspect you sense some resonance with his views. You do not earn any points by having “ nothing against” interracial relationships, any more than having nothing against the sky being blue. It is none of anyone’s business unless their family is involved and even then, one would question their right.

How in the world did Singapore became 1st world with opinions like yours?

Did it ever occur to you that your racist tendencies dictate your every thought and thereby your actions.

Actions speak louder and more impactful than words.

So in conclusion, the Chinese man is more dangerous than the Indian man.

The Chinese man may lose his job not because of the Indian man’s video but because his employer gets “REVEALED” for employing a racist educator.

We may only wonder how many minority students got “penalised” for his myopic, narrow-minded, unfair world views.

    A previous incident …

A man caught on video verbally abusing a store supervisor with vulgarities and racist remarks was fined $4,000 yesterday.

Mohamed Ali Ramly, 53, pleaded guilty to one count each of harassment and wounding the supervisor’s racial feelings, as well as a charge for failing to wear a mask over his mouth and nose while outside his home.

According to court documents, the Singaporean left his residence on a bicycle on April 17, intending to buy soya milk from nearby shops. He cycled to three shops in the area near Pioneer Mall and Pioneer MRT station but was turned away as he was not wearing a mask.

  • Realistically:

The Ngee Ann Poly lecturer merely expressed his private views which I believe most sinkies share, even as I would take the position that it is up to the female to freely make her decision.

By his female companion taking the video and post it on social media for circulation, it is the female person who caused the racial disharmony.

I believe it is better for certain view which I believe is widely held to be aired so that the emperor without clothes regime could better manage the situation.

From personal experience, I had encountered being viewed with hostility by a Malay father & his two sons while riding my bicycle on the PCN which was more than wide enough for the said family to go about their journey without the kind of racial slurs and body language.

And don’t Minister Shamugam and the other commenters supposedly against the writer’s valid comments feel otherwise as they are out of touch with the reality.

Who are those most easily self-radicalised? Minister Shanmugam might be able to put those radicals in the lock-ups under the ISA, but the expulsion of a Bangladeshi cleric a few years ago, only showed that the gullible ones could still be radicalised from external sources especially in the north.

If the Chinese says he does not like inter racial relationship is he racist?
If the Chinese says a survey says older Chinese do not inter racial relationship is he racist?
DPM Heng says older Chinese do not want an Indian PM, is he racist?
Just because Heng as a DPM says that he is not racist when others say similar things they are racist and investigated?
How about the late Lee Kuan Yew who effectively said he did not trust Singaporean Malays to be RSAF pilots!
People get “brain washed” since young as a toddler by their parents, people around them, their own experience and the broader environment.
This 60 yo educated Singaporean Chinese was a toddler during the racial riot occurred in the 1960s. He probably learned about it from his parents and the elders. I skimmed through the video and think he is not against Indians and Malays per se like Lee Kuan Yew, he is just against inter racial relationship just like many of our elderly who DPM Heng says do not want an Indian PM.
Why did this educated 60 yo man do and say that in public?
I am not surprised he is now being investigated and may be required to publicly admit his “folly”.
How about we conduct a survey on this issue, inter racial relationship, Sorry, I do not trust ownself check ownself PAP survey or survey sponsored by it. Just look the survey that says SPH media is the among the most trusted media in the world and DPM’s abovementioned survey.

this is what we do. we tell everyone being racist today in pap Singapore is alright, because pap started it. as long as pap is still running the show, it is alright to remain racist. but as soon as WP PSP form New Government, too bad, we shall come down very hard on anyone who dares to say malay president INDIAN president non-Chinese prime minister and such nonsense.

  • Really?:

    Is he really racist?

He gets suspended from his job that is real.

In fact, the converse is more prevalent, people like to say racial discrimination, favouritism, etc when their supervisor gives them low performance rating.

People also voted PAP that implements racist policies.

Is changing the constitution and selecting an Indian Malay PAP MP to be $18 million Singapore President not a racist policy?

Saying people are not ready for an Indian PM not racist?

Just because it is debated or said in Parliament, it is not racist?

Why do we have race in our NRIC? Do we not know our own race or ancestry?

  • What 's Wrong Of Being Racist?:

You cannot force a view on anybody. Everybody has the right to have his own opinion. The Chinese man should not be punished because his view is different.

The Chinese are proud of being Chinese, the Malays are proud of being Malays and the Indians are proud of being Indians. If you call them Racists, So What ? Is there anything wrong with that ?

In my opinion the Racial Quota in Singapore should be maintained to enhance peace and harmony forever. Or else there will be riots, fighting, killings in the future.

For example if the Chinese majority becomes a minority due to the Chinese girls marrying Indians and other races, will the Chinese majority population accept this ? The same thing apply to Malays if we consider the import of Filipinos and consider them as Malays. Will the Malays community accept this ? The same thing will apply with our Indian community.

The 60 years old Chinese man can see far ahead into the future.

From the video I do not know what actually triggered this argument.

I am not sure if this video should be released to the public in the first place.

This video certainly entertains some and awakens some and makes good coffee shop talks and lets PAP Ministers come out to expound motherhood statements.

Will this video unite or divide us further?

Mr Prakash could have just reported to the Police with the video.

If I am accosted with anyone on any issue, my colour, my clothing, etc, after I have made my views known, I will walk away, whether I accept the other party’s comments or not, I will reflect on the debate later. I will never know if that party is a “mad” man who will eventually assault me if we continue arguing.

Be careful. Those baying for blood will see blood spilled. This has spilled over to Chinese community and Indian community. Local Indians are accusing Chinese of being racists. Then a Malay former student of the Chinese man is accusing him of Islamic phobia. The fire is spreading.

The Chinese man is a racist in words and action. What free speech when it used to attack the other the freedom of association. The half-Indian, half-Pinoy man has the right to pick his friends.

Then the half-Indian Singaporeans innocently post a video of the incident without knowing the repercussion it would have on Singaporean race relation between the major race groups here.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion on this issue and that is fine. Defending/Condemning a person and taking sides is natural too. So the chinese guy aired his opinion directly to the indian guy and the indian guy got offended which is not surprising. If it was the other way around that a chinese guy dating an indian girl got told off by another indian guy the same thing would have happened too.

The chinese guy has been suspended by the polytechnic so this tells you the stance of the school and, by extension, the government.

Some people will say the chinese guy did no wrong in expressing his opinion. That may be true but take it one step further and who is to say that anyone would not shoot their mouths off over religion, LGBT issues or anything else that make others offended in the name of free speech?

    very well said. agree fully.

1, walking away when the uninformed or the ill mannered talk nonsense is good practice. when we were young, and that is more than half a century ago, we grew up among not so educated folks who talk bad about things they don’t know or just find different. the bad habit rubbed off on us. now we are old, hoping to see pap toppled before we meet lky at the cul de sac to kick his balls. we realize the bad habits rubbed off on us are wrong. we don’t do it except when it is against pap when we lose our cool and just do it. not exactly a good excuse but when it comes to pap the dirty playing politicians, we just can’t be nice or cultured.

2, the Chinese senior lecturer we agree should have just kept his opinions to himself. he can practice what he wants but to impose on others, even his own family members his views, cannot be right. that is why when pap lky prevented his daughter from engaging further with an INDIAN man we just shook our head because of his hypocrisy. but just because lky did it does not mean it is the right thing to do. we think the only people who can say it is right or wrong are the couple involved. anyone else who does it then becomes no different from pap lky who did it to his very own daughter. as everyone with eyes can see, pap lky is dead wrong.

3, now pap snakemugam is an opportunists. he bends with the wind. unfortunately he holds some temporary power while pap is the political party forming government. we say, with 100% certainty, he has no comments about pap lky stopping his own daughter from engaging further with an INDIAN man. we say, again with 100% certainty, if pap lky was the Chinese man who told off the couple, pap snakemugam would have a different opinion, 180 degrees from current one.

I wish you all good just like my lady friend. Not easy, but people around you will learn to accept. Your maturity is admirable.

Ignoring other comments and walk away is admirable ?

This is not maturity and not democracy.

She should whack back and spray paint at others for having different opinion and expressing their freedom of expression.

Singaporeans R Free Riders: I thought speaking up freely is democracy and freedom and free speech ?

    No ?
Tech: Yes it is “democracy and freedom and free speech”, but directing your opinion at others while it is not sought, that’s not free speech. You can say that a person’s wife is ugly to your friends but not in the husband’s presence, dio bo?

    Salah, salah, mmmm dio

This is what pro democracy Hong Kees taught the world…..
Democracy = Free speech = = Freedom of Expression = Say/talk/do what you want.

‘Let’s have trial by combat!’ (Say what you want)

Dear @ Singaporeans R Free Riders

    Aiyo, you har…

There is a difference between playing with dogs and fighting one.

When we are in good moods, we play with dogs.

However, when we walk on the streets and a mad dogs comes over and bite us, it will be strange for us to bite back.

    Tio boh?

What ‘s Wrong Of Being Racist?:
    June 11, 2021 at 1:44 pm (Quote)

    ———————————————————————–

I agree with the sentiments expressed in this feedback (above).

It is true from my own limited experience and anecdotal evidence, almost every wedding invitations I got in the last few years, the daughters of Chinese relatives on both sides, the daughters of Chinese church members, the daughters of Chinese colleagues are marrying Not Chinese man, not Caucasians, not Europeans or Malay, but from another race.

So I m not surprised there is some pushback. There are latent frustrations but everybody just pretend they are happy with it.

It is not just the fair complexion. There are many desirable qualities in Singapore Chinese women -good education, hardworking, entrepreneurial and intelligent, not too feminist and calculative and most come from reasonably decent economic background. Yes, it is a wise and astute choice indeed that even Mark Zukerberg will approve of.

  • @Singaporeans R Free Riders

IMHO, Democracy and Freedom of Expression must come with responsibility. When you anyhow shoot and offend others in the process, then “Democracy and Freedom of Expression” goes out the window.

That’s the problem I see with the US system of democracy. The “Freedom of Expression” law allows anyone to anyhow talk cock and sing song under the guise of “Freedom of Expression”. What then follows is a series of mud-slinging and names calling. That, again IMHO, is not healthy for society as a whole.

In this aspect, I think Sinkieland has some good laws to combat this, like the POHA”. Unfortunately, it has turned into a weapon for the ruling elites to “take care of” the peasants instead of protecting the peasants.

This is where the hypocrisy of rulings comes about.
Think, when any power starts ‘protecting’ you, you are already screwed.
When any gov want to help you, you are further screwed.

When a power or a gov which cannot show its purpose to help (themselves), there is no need for their existence.

When a power controls weapons to protect you and then use it on you to protect the authority and establishment, it is just so irony.
